Gillian Bernard Steve Phil and Tom Chapman....UPDATED

'Tis both a shame and a godsend... what else would you expect from this lot.

I hope hope hope they come to NYC at some point! I am so happy that Gillian will be back on Stage! More live synths! Actually, with Phil and Gillian onstage there will be a LOT of keyboards on the stage, and I am excited about that!

Wish Hooky were there as well, but he made the decision to quit the band so that's his loss, they have the right to continue.

For those of you that would argue that it's not New Order without Hooky....Gillian is just as much an important a part of New Order as Hooky. She brought a LOT to the table with her synth playing and the melodies that she wrote, and that was evident after she left. New Order wasn't all about Hooky's bass for me. When I first heard New Order, it was Bernard's voice, Gillian's synth melodies, and Steve's drumming that grabbed me and made me a fan. Then I noticed Hooky's bass.

Hooky was fantastic live of course, and his bass jamming brought a lot to the table. I am sure Tom Chapman will play Hooky's parts with nothing reverence and respect. Depeche Mode wasn't quite the same after Alan Wilder left, but Wilder's live replacement, Peter Gordeno, never tried to replace Alan onstage, he just played the parts awesomely and with respect. I suspect TC will do the same.

Best news ever in a pretty much lousy year! I just hope Hooky sees the light (pun intended...) and re-joins the band!

PS- By the way, any chance of altering the Paris date? I'll be in the City of Light in early October (from the 5th to the the 9th, to be more accurate...)

There must have been some sort of legal development that led to this happening. I mean it's no secret that when Hooky left Bernard and Steve wanted to continue along with the NO name but were dissuaded by the threat of legal action. Perhaps they have suddenly found some loop hole that allows them to use the name?

Maybe that the whole point of bringing Gillian back in is to make up 3/4 (or 4/5 now) of the band to use the NO legally?

Agree. The site seems to be a major source for anyone who's interested in New Order. I mean, for an outsider to know what's new is practically impossible now, unless he or she would surf the forums. It comlpetely missed the release of Total on the front page, for example. The label was not amused, I would guess.

Hooky's bass parts aren't hard to play but let's face it, no-one can fuck up a synth part with as much charm as Gillian

I doubt the label gives a monkeys. If they would help fund it, then I'm sure Spotnick would be on the case pretty quick. Perhaps they have a good reason now for a 'donation'?

I'll not spare a thought for Yuck, it won't make any difference to them. They will still play their small room as scheduled whilst NO take th emain hall. I doubt many(any) NO fans would be seeing 'Yuck' in any case so no damage done. :)

Yes but Gillian never seemed to say 'I might sue you if you continue as New Order without me', when she left the band. On the other hand, I think there was a threat to sue from Hooky when Hooky left, if New Order had continued with Steve, Bernard, and Phil. (Of course I think it's a bit unrealistic of Hooky to sue in this case, as it's a few gigs for charity.)

This is NEW ORDER as far as I'm concerned. Hooky's a legend, but one member missing out of a foursome doesn't mean they can't still go under that name. Bring it on :D
