It's been a year since the announcement. I don't understand why it is taking so long to get this released. It would be nice to hear some new New Order material. The fans want to hear it. I wish they would get all this legal stuff sorted out and just move on from it. Life is too short for all that nonsense.

Or legal issues. Or whatever else. Ever noticed that in the recent months, when we hear of a release date on some websites, it's listed as 'TBC' (To be confirmed)...? In other words, even those dates aren't definitive.

I keep forgetting it (supposedly) exists. Better for all of us to do so, and then get suprised by an official 'we figured it out' announcement. Plus, the new archieve site is pretty cool and keeping me interested.

Turn shouldn't even be mentioned in the same breath as Crystal or Regret! 😈

I actually think Sirens probably will go down as a "classic" in the long run. It's certainly one of the last New Order songs where they seemed to be playing together as a proper "band" with Barney's guitars, Steve's drums and a fair bit of Hooky bass going on. Together with Turn and Who's Joe, it's one of the highlights of the final LP.

I particularly like what Planet Funk did with the track as well.

Even though it is about his bloody yacht [:p]

I think the issues are regarding royalties. Barney & Co. probably want it to be split including the current formation, and Hooky probably wants it to be split between him, Steve, Phil and Barney. I just wish it was out already, Sister+Brother was really great in that facebook from a fellow NOOLer, there's probably some other gems like Turn in it.

The current lineup of New Order haven't performed any of the songs live. So, regarding songwriting royalties from Lost Sirens, it would be between those who participated in writing it. So, Tom and Gillian would get nothing from songwriting royalties, and for obvious reasons. As for performance royalties, that might depend on whether they would play those songs live after it's release. (Given the legal issues, I don't think it's very likely the current lineup would perform any of it before it's released.)

I don't think anyone seriously thinks that Bernard is trying to get royalties for Gillian Gilbert & Tom Chapman for 2005/6 recordings which took place a full 5 years before they joined the current touring line-up. I think it's much more simple, one side isn't happy with the existing royalty division and wants more for their share. It's all but been admitted in a recent interview "I get one dollar but I want two" etc.

It will be divide between the three main members (and possibly Phil) but the hold-up is obviously percentages.

Seeing that New Order are going through a revival of sorts at the moment and keeping the nautical theme I think a major reason why Hooky is blocking the release of those lost sirens is because he wants to take the wind out of their sails..[:(]

Sure, that's more likely, but I think Hooky is seen as a "collaborator" in the deal, or something similar that would mean he gets a smaller percentage.

I'm not saying that's what Barney wants, but who knows how their old and new contracts are? I've read recently that past The Cure members don't get shit for music they wrote because of the band's contract. Warner had the rights for all NO songs, but after the original band split, they could've changed it to suit other needs. It probably has something specifying that current members get a higher cut, and Hooky's defense is probably arguing that there's no current members because the band split and now there's that whole New Order Ltd. thing as a different company.

The storm has just been upgraded to Hurricane Hooky, lets hope it doesn't force Barney's yacht of lost sirens to take shelter in a Pirate Bay [eek2]

Meaning they'll make so little money from it by the time it's actually released.

Seriously, relatively so little money is made by bands from record sales, how much do they think they're going to get? Sure everyone on NOOL will buy it, well unless it's a bunch of tracks that sound like Hellbent.

But that's the reason people tour nowadays. I don't think studio recorded music is worthless. It may not make as much money but gives people something properly recorded to listen to at home or wherever. They've already said they will release it so as long as they clear up legal issues it would be silly not to release it.
