Crystal...a new classic track?

I think everyone can agree that Crystal is better than most of us could have hoped for, but is it an instant classic. Dicuss it amongst yourselves (PS If someone else has hosted a similar debate, I apologize. I haven't had access to this site in quite a while.)

Well, Trevor, to actually respond to your question, to me actually Crystal IS a classic. The more I listen to it, the more I like it. To me, for example, it is much better than Regret, which seems a little juvenile by comparison.

The album version of Crystal is classic New Order, it has all the ingredients - barneys guitar, Hookys bass and i think has the sound of Gillians synths in there (which most other tracks on Get ready other than poss vicious circle, miss) plus a shit load of music to end it - pure New Order. This may not be popular but i think Regret is an overrated track, Ruined In A Day was better, in fact when they played Regret in Liverpool i went for a piss!!

Yes, Rob, I should have made that distinction. It is the album version that is great; the radio edit is nothing by comparison.

Well, Nick, I know a lot of people really like Regret; it's just not one of my personal favorites.

Crystal is a good track, the album version being the best but a little directionless towards the end. Regret is a better track for me and the Fire Island mix far outstrips any of Crystals remixes by a good bit though some of them are decent enough. The lyric for Crystal is really good, one of my faves in fact, 'We're like Crystal, We break easy'. Great Stuff.

Actually I prefer the Single mix to the LP mix - lose that damn wail at the begining for starters! it's to long drawn out on the LP

After many more listenings, Crystal just gets better and better. It leaves Regret in the dust.

Crystal is comparable to Regret, not better (In My Opini-onion). I do find myself nodding my head to the beats of Crystal like the kind of movement you do when you lose your marbles and sometimes I dance around my front room like an imbecile when it gets going - when it gets ready. Whereas Regret makes me imagine I wrote the song and that all my old girlfriends (both of them) are listening to it and thinking... yeah Huntsman was really cool, and I wished I was still with him because he wants a place where he can make a telephone conversation and not be bothered by anyone asking if he wants a cup of tea or something.

Maybe I've forgotten, the name and the address... of everyone I've ever met... well its nothing that the Huntsman is regretting.

Well, Huntsy, I agree with two thirds of your prediction; and I didn't question your decency, Huntsy boy; I would never ever do that, even in outer space. Is that the same outer space immortalized by Prodigy?

Crystal's my fave at the moment coz after 8 long years, I, like most others I'm sure, thought it'd be cack. The fact it isn't makes it all the sweeter.

Like Mr Huntsman said though, they're both classic tracks.

I think what is also striking is how much better the album version is than the "radio edit." After listening many times to the short version on the Japanese single before the album version was available, I wasn't really impressed. But the long version is so much better.

You know, you've got to have a lot of supporting characters cause, most of the time, they are the ones that get the more successful.

The introduction of song names in our talks today has filled me with much laughter... great stuff. I hope everyone everywhere picks them up.

In 1993 I had a bad split with a bird and never saw her again... Regret was released and I always hoped she would listen to the song and think of me. A bit sad really, but there you go.

Well, Huntsy, I promised to stop, but if you insist, here goes. My lack of esteem for ReGrate is wholly because of the melody, the sequence of notes, and has nothing to do with the lyrics. I'm not a musician, so I don't have technical terms available to use. But to me, the sequence of notes just seems, as I said before, juvenile, or to use a different word, sappy. I can't even imagine comparing something like TMW to RageRoute. TMW to me is genuinely moving; Ragout is not.
