It was tough to be inclusive. Sorry if I missed anything.

I think that LWTUA is JD best song, however that is only by the lankiest of whiskers so I have voted instead for a personal favourite: Shadowplay, since LWTUA will get many votes anyway.

"Dead Souls" is my fave, but it's really hard to choose only one track. i also adore "Insight" and "Wilderness".

So am i! NOVELTY .....absolute ALL time classic. Still at least they managed quite a few other GREAT tunes or i would not be HERE today.:D So it has to be LWTUA...just got divorced the first time and was having a GREAT time again.:D

Atmosphere...

And I'm sure I'm not a loner on this one!

Autosuggestion. Novelty sucks !

lwtua is too easy an answer. I have gotten to dance to Transmission in three different cities. That song will always bring back good memories. BUt I would have to say Shes Lost Control gets my vote, especially the Substance version.

Really tough one! In the end I plumped fer New Dawn Fades, although I nearly went fer The Eternal. No doubt I'll probably want to change my mind the morra:nod:

Insight would have also been my vote. Great song

I picked SLC because that was the first track that really turned me on to JD

New Dawn Fades is my favourite JD song. It's up there with the best songs of all time.

  9. In A Lonely Place (and don't nitpick about who wrote it vs. performed it)

I picked LWTUA in the poll because it's their "best" song. It's a masterpiece.

I'd have to say my favourite song of theirs would actually be Atmosphere. No other band could have come up with it.

Picked Decades; the last song on the last proper JD album. Love everything about it, and as the song fades, I cannot help but think of what might have been, but I'm very grateful that their two classic studio albums will always remain.

Dead Souls is the best song ever written.

Wel..ceremony has 2 b there best, even if it is a new order song. id say love will tear us apart, i spose, since it dosnt lose its brilliance no matter how many times you hear it. after that new dawn fades, especially the live version on still.

Atmosphere easily

I love Atmosphere, but the bass track on She's Lost Control is heavenly. My vote goes to Atmosphere, though.

can't do this.

maybe a top 5 in no order: disorder, ceremony, digital, transmission, SLC. but also decades, colony, atrocity exhibition (LIVE), these days, day of the lords (LIVE). All fantastic. Can't pick one.

It's really too hard for me to say, but I am surprised that "I Remember Nothing" wasn't on the list. That is an excellent song.

I thought about LWTUA since it's the 1st JD single that I bought, but went with New Dawn Fades because I love to play it REAL loud (like th rest...).

:D:D:D:D:D anita, eagerly waiting to see Heart & Soul in the mail

The Eternal.

Originally posted by leslie pemberton Wel..ceremony has 2 b there best, even if it is a new order song.

no it isn't, its joy division's, as is In a Lonely Place.

Atmosphere is pefection recorded.

Best of the rest, The Only Mistake.

too bad "Warsaw" never got prefessionally recorded later when they could play better, its a nice punk song

"Digital" is another good punky track, the early recording does not quite do it justice

What are you smoking? Both Digital and Glass sound GREAT! There is nothing wrong with those recordings.

It's very tuff to say. Right I will say that JD's greatest song is "Atmosphere", but my vote will probably change from week to week.

My vote's for "Twenty Four Hours". That song just explodes with emotion.

wel i am sorry..ok then ceremony is a joy division song, woteva, its still a brilliant song! im more of a joy division fan, but that song still sounds like there best, even when new order peform it.

I voted for "The kill". I love the older punkier songs more. Although "Ceremony" is probably their classiest number overall.

colony for me...

Heart and Soul....

24 hours : so much inner desperate violence...

what about the sound of music? that's my favourite.

24 hours is the best JD song... ya can't beat that bass line! :bass:

NOVELTY......their true polished punk song..... but TRANSMISION pretty close to my fav. coz my legs just cant resist under Ian's instructions......

Yes as i have said before...NOVELTY is pure class!

ok then...we need a poll for best joy division bass line, can sum1 do 1 please? I suppose it helps if u play hooky bass like me, but its not essential. id go for 24 hours, ceremony or digital

it was a tough call...but atmosphere just does something for me on a level that even their other songs don't. i do think if JD had been around long enough to do a recording of "ceremony", it would have been their best by far.

and as far as basslines go (i'm a bass player myself who emulates hooky's style quite a bit), i have to say twenty four hours

Disorder. Why don't even mention it ?

Sound of Music, Heart and Soul, LWTUA, The Eternal, Dead Souls. Some interesting insights as well, folks........

24 Hours

Yeah Atmosphere!

This is such a difficult poll. At times I'd vote for the power of Dead Souls, at others the plea of New Dawn Fades, the resignation of 24 Hours, the aggression of Shadowplay, the self-betrayal of A Means To An End. My X went to the horrible finality of Decades though, the closer of Closer, where the chicken stopped.

i'm not able to vote here. Joy Division have written so many brilliant tracks...i really don't know. my current favourites are "Insight", "Wilderness", and "24 Hours".

hatbpoll is easier for me: Transmission. My fauvorite Jd song, my really favourite song. Even if JD have not a bad or simpley average song: they are all great. They are total genius! Ian is one of the best composers ever - if not the best.

Lyricist, surely ? Barney wrote the tunes !

It sounds ridiculous to say that I like all Joy Division/Warsaw songs that I've ever laid ears upon, but, I do like every JD/W song I've ever heard. But "Transmission" is a powerful piece, one that even non-JD people have liked. Also, the performance for this one on Something Else is absolutely astounding. (The "Dead Fly Dance"? - Ingenius!)

Atmosphere. It's a timeless piece of clasical music, and at the same time, as Paul Morley had said, the last pop song.

The same. Decades. I'm only surprised why it's got only 7 votes.

DISORDER ive only seen two other people mention it quite upset about that

i voted for my second fave, "New Dawn Fades" cos my first fave, "Heart and Soul" was not listed... well, i love them all anyway, i can't think of a single Joy Division track that i could say i hate. cheers.

next to LWTUA, Disorder is my favorite JD song. it's fucking incredible; brilliantly written and produced.

I like most of Joy Division's work, but I would have to say that FAILURES is my favorite.

LWTUA is too obviously their best song, but I picked "Isolation" because that's the one that always gets stuck in my head and, in the live version especially, I love the passion in the song. The way the synths build up after every refrain of "Isolation!" is terrifying and satisfying at the same time.

Insight has always been by favourite, with Disorder coming in at a close 2nd.

Sorry, but it's LWTUA for me. Never gets old and my band are performing it in just under two months.

No words at all, just my top ten:

1- Isolation 2- She's Lost Control (Substance Version) 3- Digital 4- Heart And Soul 5- Transmission 6- Passover 7- Decades 8- Walked In Line 9- Dead Souls 10- Ice Age

Love Will Tear Us Apart sounds like a mesterpiece, something "hors concours".

It's Forced Laugh isn't it?

amazing noone but me like colony, but if Heart & Soul were on the list, it be my pick

No Love Lost

The Warsaw version. Guess my vote is diqualified them but I love the older longer version.

LWTUA has brillant production and the vocals well breathtaking a lot of time was spent on that single as well as ATMOSPHERE but DISORDER brillant especially the end

Digital is my fav, hard to choose out of so many great songs though.

Shadowplay, with Heart & Soul a close second.

Something about the gee-tars on Shadowplay that just do it for me every time :)

Totally agree with your first choice here: "These Days" is an sadly overlooked gem! Those synth-sounds are still amazing. And the way Ian sings on this one still gives me the shivers. And what about this solo!!!

The one song that gives me goosebumps every single time is Disorder, specifically the version on Still - the last 20 seconds seem like a final scream into the void. Untouchable.

Means To An End. WOW, AM I ALONE IN THIS ONE???:eek3:

i went for digital here (flipped a coin w/ decades). funny one's the final song they played live while the other is the last song ontheir final studio release. leaders of men, passover, heart and soul, disorder, dead souls, atmosphere: they're all top-notch. can't remember the last time i wanted to hear lwtua, though.

Well, no... you're totally right and it's a shame that we can't vote for 'Means to an end'. The drum part is fantastic, as is the tension built up by the vocals of Ian and the bass. Bernard put down some interesting guitar work too. A classic.

I thought I voted on this before but I think "Heart & Soul" is my fave. Love the drumming and the lyrics. Very haunting. "Shadowplay" is another great one that has become one of my recent faves. The guitaring is just amazing. :D

All their songs are extremely good, but Shadowplay, in my opinion , is the best one. Every time that I listen to this song is like the first time, 12 years ago.

Hi Mauricio

Welcome mate :music:

This guy is my cousin :D His brother is the one who introduced me New Order about 15 years ago.

I vote Transmission, because it simply is the best. Although the lack of 'Insight' and 'Disorder' baffles me...
