Discovered this site some years ago, when it was still called Temptation, after the closing of "The Pop Group with a Dark past" due to the mess on the message board. I just used a web search engine and landed on "Temptation".

I discovered New Order at the age of 15: it was in the summer 1987, the very first time I went out in a club, and the DJ spent the night playing songs from the freshly released Substance. Didn't know it was New Order though, until a friend of mine made me listen to his records two years later. I immediately bought Substance and Technique, and within a year I bought all other NO and JD albums. Rather strangely, I first liked the Order because of their disco songs (BM, TF, BLT, TBTHOG, R&R). I was a huge DM & PSB fan at this time, which could explain this. As time went by, I got tired of synth pop and began to appreciate the rockier side of NO and JD.

My favourite NO era is 1981-1985. PC&L, LL, Ceremony, EGG, Temptation, Confusion, TLU, TPK, IALP, Procession, Mesh, Murder, Hurt, C&W, to name a few :D... Possibly the best songs ever written.

Hi, I'm Benny. I'm not sure who I am. I'm half married, over halfway there according to the book, and discovered New Order Online about 3600 posts ago. Been a JD/NO fan since 1979, and have a ridiculously large collection of live recordings between 1979 and the start of 1989 when I retired. Veteran of far too many gigs(53)all over the shop, but yet to see them in the US or Australia.

Im 23 and discovered the site browsing the links section of the official site. At that time I was just looking for a True Faith video (the greatest video ever). Right now Im trying to finish a project in order to graduate as an Network Engineer in University of Brasilia. Among the other bands I like are Smashing Pumpkins, Placebo, Republica, Garbage and Radiohead. I discovered new order the day I heard "The Best Of" in my ex-girlfriend house and discovered that I already knew and loved all of the songs but didnt have noticed they are from the same band.

Robby i discovered Joy Division back in 1982 when i was a teenager because i liked the album covers. i didn't learn about the history of band until a year later when i had to send away for a back issue of The Trouser Press magazine to learn something about JD/NO. sadly, internet access was very limited back then.

um...i followed a link from Neworderweb(the official useless site), checked out the sound samples, videos and bio...everything. took a whole tour of the site cuz i basically knew almost nothing about new order (but i did read about ian curtis from one of my rock history books...used to love reading them.:book:) and after hearing crystal, i decided to check them out. i was never really a fan before crystal. i didn't join NOOL until nov 2001, but was around the site a lot for about a month.

My NewOrder story: I loved True Faith when it was re-released in '94. A little later I bought JD Substance; then a little later again, I bought Technique, second hand, as a chance buy for a mere fiver. Perhaps the best fiver I have ever spent. I have never looked back!

I also love music in general, beer, football (and many other sports, my second favourite being US fitba - my Chiefs have scored nearly 100 points in the last two games!) and following the little known Bo'ness United F.C., the subject of my own web site.

I'm originally from Manchester, and thats how I got into the whole Manchester music scene, of which New Order really led the way, and its thanks to them really that Manchester has a music scene at all. I prefer their live stuff compaired to the album tracks, so I do amit to having the "odd one" bootleg here and there in my collection.

I work in I.T. and have done for several years, its great work in Manchester, there's definately an "Atmosphere" of music culture in the City.

Hi, I am Humberto (33) and I am the token Spanish member of NOOL. I have always loved NEW ORDER but never thought I would see them live. Then Reading 98 came along and for two whole hours I was the happiest person on Earth. Things I love other than New Order are: girls, my country, politics, my girlfriend Cristina, white chocolate, beer, tequila, good books, London, crispy winter days, foie, old masters' paintings and staying in with friends having a quiet beer on Fridays.

The first words I ever looked up on the Internet were New Order and I found Antoine Barbet's place (Merci beaucup Antoine ) I guess that makes me a very old hand here because that must have been 1995-1996. Then I visited Temptation just in time for the changeover to NOOL. I lurked in there for quite a while and then I decided to post something. I met several NOOLiners at the Olympia and then some more at the Move Festival and did I have a good time with them! my name is christy wood, but my close friends from university really do, in fact, call me agent wood (long story). i'm currently messing around as a substitute teacher (high school history and english), but i've spent most of my 28 years as a student (last degree--masters' in international security studies). i currently live in orlando, florida (grew up in colorado), but i lived in the UK for six years, up until this past april. i hope to return for good sometime in the next year or two, probably as a history teacher.

i've been a new order fan since 1987, i've been a member of this black hole since september (although i was poking around it for a year or so before i actually joined) and i've seen NO live twice so far. i luurrrvve music, history, travel and cats. oh, and i'm single. :D

Drew Crumbaugh here, posting from (and living in) west-suburban Chicago (DuPage County). 30 years old. Discovered New Order in 1987 when I borrowed a friend's Substance tape because I wanted to see what "that new tape" was (he had cool music taste and I was into finding new stuff to listen to). Discovered Joy Division in 1988 completely separately from New Order because of another friend with cool music tastes - I bought JD's Substance on a whim because my friend was simply talking about it one day. Discovered that they were one and the same band (well, one with Ian Curtis and one with Gillian Gilbert) after comparing sleeve notes from JD's 1979 Peel Session release, and a picture of New Order with the band members' names, and noting many similar last names/instruments played etc. Decided after seeing New Order in '93 that I didn't ever need to see another concert again, although I probably dropped that vow a month later when the next show I wanted to see came around.

I'm a United supporter (home matches only though), fave albums are "Brotherhood" (ooh those nice Factory white cassette boxes!) & "Technique" and first saw New Order in 1993 at Reading when I thought I'd never ever see them again.

Best gig was Manchester Apollo 1998.... the comeback.

Fave New Order related moment was seeing Tim Burgess sing "Lonesome Tonight" with Monaco at Manchester University in 1997.

Big regret is not seeing Electronic in 1991.

Been a NO fan since 1983 - they have been my favorite band ever since I had a favorite band. I love most of the late 70's early 80's post punk music. I am 33 years old and I am a Systems Administrator for a top 3 furnature manufacturing company. My first NO item was a tape that a record DJ made for me with songs like Ceremony, In A Lonely Place and the like - I was hooked. I used to listen to that tape on my walkman over and over again.

I've been a fan of New Order since 1963 as a result of a flaw in the space/time continueum which allowed me the pleasure of hearing a future radio broadcast featuring their hit single Blue Monday 2025, the biggest selling record of all time. They may have produced the odd belter up till now folks but just wait till you hear Blue Monday 2025!

Anyway, i'm single, I shot my wife for buying cheap savoury snacks some years back. The bitch deserved it! I've been visiting this site for a while now, though every time I do I seem to be struck down by an irritating fanny rash which leads to an extended absence. I've the strangest feeling another one is looming large right now!

My favourite New Order track up till now has been Leaving On a Jet Plane, or something of a similar ilk, famously made famous by John Denver back in about '68. He had one of those flawed radio thingies too and blatantly robbed the tune from whatever New Order track it was in. He got his though when I loosened a few bolts on his private aircraft one day. The rest is history!

i am Ed and I live in Pittsburgh. I got into new order when they were Joy Division with a little song called love will tear us apart. i have every thing they have ever done. I also own a large Factory Collection and I have great interest in the band "The Wake" I once noticed a cool album cover that was black with these white wavy lines on it and it said Fact10. That is the first time I saw any of there stuff. I am amazed also how old they are getting, but arent we all.

I also like Radiohead, the Velvet Underground, the Chemical Brothers and Nirvana, and got one of my New Order t-shirts signed by Tom and Ed from the Chemicals at Glastonbury 97 - well, that's the closest I could ever get to new Order - ha ha!!

Got into NO more than a yr ago thru a close friend. At the time, after much avoidance of "electronic music" the previous 20 or so yrs of my life I finally started getting into industrial, synthpop, drum-and-bass, and some trance music. First song I heard from NO was probably True Faith, but didnt know it. Crystal and Someone Like You got me hooked on Get Ready, found who NO was....and the rest is history. Discovered the site about 8 months ago but didnt start posting til Oct (I think). The coolest thing about all this is that I find most of the people on here are just like me and I think in some ways everyone that listens to NO is just a certain type of happy, inquisitive, good-humoured, cat and I think thats really cool. I spend all day at work on this site; it makes me laugh. :D

My name is Richard, age 21 this Sunday. I joined a year ago, but I had to create a new account because I changed my email address and lost my old password. I've actually been looking about on this site since it's "Temptation" days, but I didn't start posting 'till the box set came about.

Anyways, the first New Order song I remember hearing was "True Faith", and I was about 14 or 15 at the time. I starting buying their music when I was 17, and have been a major fan since. I think what really got me attached to them was right as I starting getting into their music, they had just announced a major comeback and a new album. Plus, you always have their "dark past" and side projects to dive into, so there's always something different to listen to.

As for me, I'm just the average lazy bum. I work at Subway, collect music, and sit and play video games. That's about it. All my friends have either grown up without me, moved away, or just get bored with me, so whatever. Plus, I just broke up with my girlfriend, so you know alot of Joy Division is in heavy rotation right now. I considering joining the air force, so maybe that will help me climb out of this doomed state I'm in, find a better job, and finally grow up...

Sorry for rambling on there, I'm just kind of upset right now. Plus, "Retro" still hasn't arrived in the mail yet, and it's driving me insane.

First found this place several years back when it was Temptation or was it Dry201...I can't remember that stuff.

First heard New Order when Confusion first came out but never got serious about their music until after I discovered Joy Division in like 87 or something (Plot thickens!~!!) Now I absolutely can't get enough of them (There's that derned DM reference again) and consider my collection to be quite large and worthy of awe.

Seen 'em only a few times though as they never get around to where I am at @ the time!! But seen them in Naeba, Japan (Fuji Rock Fest), Mountain View, Cali (Area One) and in San Jose, Cali in 89 while they toured for Technique. Oh yeah, and the Hollywood Bowl in 94ish while touring for Republic.

Other than that...I don't know ca-rap, and I'm stickin to it!!!

A coupla months later I heard BM at a disco, after I eventually found it ( my, but it's hard to find a new order record when you're not in the know), I had an epiphany, basses could play beautiful things. Books were burned :) Found this site on google. love it love it love it. New order are the greatest thing in the world. I have long since realised that I will remain single until I find a girl as messed in the head about them as I am. I'm even in the process of seeking out a shergold marathon like Hooky's. I used to feel bad when I played high up the neck, felt like I was a thief, but then I realised that one day Hooky will stop playing and SOMEONE has to carry on his style, even if it is just in crappy pubs and clubs in N Ireland. My preference of band members.....

I'm not a big poster, since I am at work when I check the site. I have been a lurker for a while. I found the site through a Yahoo search.

I still remember Blue Monday coming out in '83, but I did not like it at all: stupid disco music (it was all Beatles for me in those days). By the end of the year, though, my musical horizons started to open up, thanks to early The The and, especially, The Smiths' This Charming Man & What Difference Does It Make? The first New Order song I really liked was Age Of Consent, and Thieves Like Us sealed the deal.

I only ever saw the band play live once, in Leuven '85 (their last gig in Belgium), but I try to make up for that by diligently buying up all videos & DVDs, and by collecting as much bootlegs as possible.

Found the Jam on Sept 12, 1980 and I'm still a huge fan. Heard Blue Monday in 1983ish. It finally made me like them because I just hated the early stuff. Been NO fan since then. I'm also a Pethead of 16 yrs. PSB Rocks! I'm passionate for JD now because personal events over the past few yrs have made me understand the songs and really appreciate them.

Waterrat's site led me to NOOL.

I listen to JD/NO/Electronic, the Jam/TSC/Paul Weller, PSB, the Who, Kate Bush, Oasis, and other stuff.

My favourite NO gigs are the first and the last: the Palais in St Kilda with The Saints and John Cooper Clarke - said to be the first time Blue Monday was ever performed live (is that true?) The last time was early this year at BDO in Melbourne.

Hello. My name is David and I'm thirty years old. I live in Tampa, Florida. I've loved New Order since 1987, when I was fifteen and saw the True Faith video for the first time. That one moment made me reconsider how I viewed music to the point that it's still my "dogma" if you will.

I found out about house music through buying copies of British ragzines such as NME, Melody Maker, etc. I bought copies of Happy Mondays, Stone Roses, anything baggy, until I realized it wasn't totally what I was looking for. Then I heard groups and artists like 808 State, Orbital, Moby, and A Guy Called Gerald and I realized that there was something out there that I should seek out at all costs. It wasn't until I bought Laurent Garnier's (former HAC dj) X-Mix 2 that I realized that all of this stuff was being made in the U.S.A. When I realized that this music was the best assessment of what I loved, I was consumed, and still am.

I still feel this music is underappreciated by most, and disregarded by many more. Unfortunately, it's because marketing and advertising doesn't serve these artists. There are so many artists who are extremely talented out there who will not play to commercial endeavors. That is why most people who don't know what I listen to relegate it to car commercials and sports broadcast themes.

The DJ in this arena is just as important as the artist, themselves. There are so many DJ's who remain unnoticed worldwide that it's silly. The DJ has been the media for this music for at least 18 years. The DJ's deserve this credit because they are presenters and selectors to people on a nightly basis, worldwide, yet somehow remain overlooked.

In this continent the DJ's who remain constant are people that I hope, everyone knows by name. I could rattle them off: Richie Hawtin, Derrick Carter, John Acquaviva, Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Kevin Saunderson, and the list could go on. And you might not have ever heard of them, but should have. The same is true worldwide. In Europe it's disc jockeys like Laurent Garnier, Andrew Weatherall, Sven Vath, Adam Beyer, Cari Lekebusch, Joel Mull, Jori Hulkonnen, Jesper Dahlback, Scion, Slam, Mark Broom, Carl Finlow...

In Asia it's people like Ken Ishii, Technasia, etc. In the Russian states, it's people like UMEK and Valentino Kanzyani, respectively...

Y'all know what I'm sayin', at least some of you...

Awright Mr. Domino! I'm gonna be in San Francisco early January. Can you recommend any decent bars for getting right royally drunk in? I was over in December last year and couldn't find anywhere decent probably due to my inability to extricate meself from the tried and tested tourist trail. i.e a load of soul-less bars in the Union Square area.

I love a good bevvy in a good bar and would appreciate your comments.

At 51 I think I'm one of the oldest NO fans on the site, so I've been into them for quite a while. Since the beginning of their career they've produced music that made you sit up and take notice, but it wasn't until I picked up "Republic" one day and heard one great song after another that I realized it was their SOUND I was into more than their SONGS. Since then I've devoured every new release. I can't think of any other band that delivers the goods so consistently and that I NEVER tire of listening to. I must've played "Blue Monday" a million times, but it still sends an electric current down my spine. The new stuff is just as awesome and it's great to see them back as good as ever after too long an absence.

Jim Giliberto, 41, live near the capital of New York State (Albany) and work in the capital at the NYS Legislative Library where I am co-director of the library (since October), but I have been working there for almost 18 years, my only real job!!!! Met my wife in the library, and will be married 14 years this New Years Eve, with a boy 10 and a girl 4.

My bud from graduate school got me into The Order in 1983 with the PC&L album. Found out about Joy Division on my own. Still have yet to see them live

Hi!

My name is Al Halucha, 38, from Fort Myers, Florida with two daughters. Temptation 12” version is my favorite song.

I grew up just outside of Boston, Massachusetts. One Sunday night during fall of 1980, I heard this incredible song and fell in love with it. It was a song called Love Will Tear Us Apart from a group called Joy Division. I heard the song one or two more times after that, but that was it.

Two years later, I was in the Army and stationed in Germany. I was in a club one night and heard a song I really liked. I then went to the DJ and talked to him for a few minutes about the song. He told me the group was New Order and gave me the name and location of a record shop in town where I could find their stuff.

The next day I went to that record shop and told one of the employees what I was looking for. She showed me where the New Order recordings were located and also made the comment “If you are interested in New Order you might also be interested in Joy Division”. Then she went into more detail why I would like Joy Division. I went over and looked at the Joy Division records, to my surprise there was a song called Love Will Tear Us Apart. Well, that day I bought everything I could find that was from Joy Division and New Order. Even made eight trips England just to buy records.

New Order will always be my favorite group. I seen them over a dozen times, but the last time was back in 1987 (Sighs). I plan on traveling to England to see them if their next tour is anything like the last one.

I've just started posting, though I've been coming to this site for at least a year now. I'm in Boston, MA, but I grew up in Los Angeles, where I ransacked the record stores for anything with Joy Division or New Order on it.

Like a lot of people, I had been a fan of New Order before I even really knew it. I had heard their songs now and then in the early 80's, and finally, with the release of Bizarre Love Triangle, I decided to find out just who this band was.

Shortly after that, I found Substance, and then came Technique, so you can see how I soon came to realize that they are the best band in the history of music. Then I made the JD connection and that just blew my mind, though I have to be in the right mood for them. I do go through phases where it's all I listen to for weeks, but NO is more consistent with me.

These days, I'm just hanging around Boston, having just returned from wandering aimlessly across the US. I wait tables, and it's an addictive lifestyle. My next big project is to buy a HD camera and start making films again (I went to school for film). Basically, I do whatever strikes my fancy.

I'm 22, been a NO/JD fan for many years now, but have recently really fallen in love with the bands again. I am currently residing in Atlanta after graduating from university a few months ago. Working a shitty job that I hate, but I like the people I work with.

As to the degree of my love for New Order, I'm willing to fly accross the atlantic to see a show. I've seen most of my other favorite bands at least once - New Order is my next dream. I went crazy over 3 16 and bought a DVD player that plays european DVDs just so I could watch it with the stereo. Yes, I'm crazy.

In mid-2001 I was tuned in to the local Top 40 station when this strange some came on, with a super-smooth chorus. I thought it was ok and yeah maybe something I'll have to download at some stage. Well I ended up downloading Crystal and deciding that it was even good enough to merit buying the album itself.

It was a very costly decision. Peel Sessions, Low-life, Brotherhood, Technique, Republic, Get Ready, Substance, (the best of), Here To Stay and the 3 16 dvd later my wallet was thinner but my heart a truckload bigger.

60 Miles An Hour was my First Love. Close Range has taken over as my New Order #1, although Temptation is giving it a real rattle at the moment.

For all those who appreciate true musical artistry, ROCK ON! and for all those who reckon they can't sing....here's an inspiration for you to get up there and have a bash, regardless of key and tone...

yeah so i've been a fan of the ol' order since '85. i've loved them ever since a friend of mine gave me his copy of low-life. ahh yes, such wonderful memories! all the great moments in my life have been soundtracked by New Order.

now, i'm all grown up... 31 to be exact. Delving into adulthood with all the worries and expectations. marriage is soon to come... the house, the children... all on the fore front. through it all, i'll have my beloved New Order to calm me down and make me happy.

JD/NO is/are one of the best bands ever, but sometimes you've got to cheat. I like all sorts of music, from avantgarde, hardcore, punk to triphop. All time favorite are The Swans, followed by Foetus, Nick Cave, NoMeansNo and Therapy?.

I'm a 17 year old high school student from Toronto, Canada. I feel like such a young 'un around here! :)

I got into JD first when I read about how they influenced my absolute favourite band, Radiohead. When I put on "Unknown Pleasures" I thought "This is the most depressing record I've ever heard in my life" surpassing even Radiohead, whose saddest moments can't compare to that shattering glass at the beginning of "I Remember Nothing". Two months later I got "The Best of New Order" thinking I should give them chance because UP and Closer were both so good. And here I am! I discovered this site pretty recently just by putting "New Order" into Google Search.

The only two things in my life are studying (I'm in Grade 12) and music collecting. My favourite music store in Toronto is a great source for hard to find older music...they've sold me most of my JD/NO stuff, and I've got all of them (not including singles and stuff... I'm a student...I don't have the money for that!) My ambition is to go to England for university. So I can visit the Hacienda [site] and feel less ashamed. ;)
