I feel a thread must be started to rectify a situation that has occurred....

Make a case for one of the songs listed below which you think SHOULDNT be in the 'ultimate worst song poll'

My views have been made known on the original thread for STYT

quite a lot of them actually. any poll constructed from the results of other polls is gonna naturally have a fairly dodgy look. like, how do you pick the worst song on low life? and with pretty much all of republic being weak, it's under-represented.

I don't see why people find "Angel Dust" so bad It's one of the better songs off Brotherhood IMHO, my only complaint is that it does get a little too busy at the end, but then again, so does the album version of "BLT"...cuz remember what Barney said about all their songs having big endings....

Angel Dust/Broken Promise/Elegia/Sooner than you think/Shellshock. These are damn fine songs the likes of Martin Gore would have sold their souls if given half the chance of cowriting it by a horned, pointy tailed Mephistopheles.

World in Motion is a song with a purpose, it was to be a football anthem and as such it works pretty well. Possibly the best footie song ever (much better than the Brodie one and far, far better than the Marr one. Vindaloo does not register btw)

As for Fine Time I think it is excellent, for years I have played it just before I go for a night out and always puts me in the right mood. It is funny, upbeat, different, bubbly...

I was just listening to Ecstasy and I am amazed by how awesome it is, this track shouldn't even be a part of the average song poll, let alone the bad song one. It's great.

Elegia? Are you nuts? This is one of the best instrumental tracks of all time by any band.

Sooner Than You Think - no way. Fitting in the line "To buy a drink there is so much more reasonable. I think I'll go there when it gets seasonal" should be good enough reason to keep it out.

Subculture? Leave Low Life out of this - that album is darn near perfect as the sum total of all songs.

Ultraviolence? Same as above. Leave PC&L out of this (in it's original form - Blue Monday and The Beach).

That's the point. No LL song can enter a "worst of". And "Sooner Than You Think" is awesome.

Please remove the 5 songs I defended from the list of possible worst songs ever... it is causing me great pain to see them there.

There should be no songs from Low-life on that list!

Also, Fine Time, Slow Jam, Doubts Even Here, and Ultraviolence

Another vote for Angel Dust being off the list: it's a great rocking tune with a touch that I wasn't certainly expecting before hearing it for the first time, which is the backing vocal that sounds like a muezzin's call. Nice engimatic lyrics that don't sound trite, and I love the instrumental jam at the end. I always turn the volume up when this one comes on.

There are a number of songs listed which I have enjoyed at one time or another but if I were to select only 1, it would be Subculture. I admit that the Substance version is somewhat overdubbed etc but the Low Life & Record Mirror versions are good & great. :)

the only new order song I truly dislike is theives like us. as for defending songs that were on the crap list, I can find plenty of good points about most of them, and few if any real problems. I will throw myself under the bus for " shellshock" as it's a favorite of mine that many people seem to dislike, though I'm not sure why.

What's Shellshock doing in that list? It's one of my favourites! Why does everyone hate it?

i think Martin Gore is brilliant. i think almost anything he's written is better than Sooner Than You Think and Shellshock, etc. i mean, songs like Stripped and Enjoy the Silence are masterpieces of synth pop, IMHO.

i think Elegia is one of the most powerful songs i've ever heard; Subculture is one of the most fun NO songs (although i definitely prefer the LP mix; but then again, i like the 12" mix in a campy way); Ultraviolence has a good vibe; Shellshock's chorus is great; and hey. i think people are too hard on State of the Nation. the guitar sounds and beats aren't too shabby and it has some good hooks. i actually genuinely don't understand why everyone hates it so much.

and World in Motion - oh, wait. i hate that song.

Thankfully somebody else has said this. To be honest, State Of The Nation is not amongst my favourites, but it's not a song I would skip over as it's reasonably catchy. I'm not keen on Shame... though.

What's going on here, half of those songs are great, We All Stand, Elegia on the worst song poll-this must be a joke, I also don't understand why all those people have a problem with World In Motion (apart from a dislike of the England footbal team in general), I think it's great and very tongue-in-cheek, also no songs from either Low-Life or Technique should be cathegorized as bad-they all have a purpose on the albums. I personally like State of the Nation, perhaps because it was among the first New Order songs that I've heard, so it holds a personal significance. The only song I'd distinctly dislike here is Chemical, but that's because the whole Republic period had an uneasy feeling about it.
