hearing people say how much they dislike the remix of 'subculture' on substance--and thinking about how much i actually like it, even prefer it to the low-life version-- makes me wonder: is there any remix you prefer to the original album track? if so, why?

I'm also a fan of the remix of Sub Culture. I also prefer the BLT Substance remix to the original on Brotherhood.
I like the 12" versio of TPK, but that's about it. That horrible remix of Sub-culture almost completely ruined NO for me.
:( anita, still disgusted
the perfect kiss remix is the best one for me..
there is a 'subculture' remix that is better than the album version (it's not really technically 'offical' though)..
although i do like the subvulture remix, and sometimes the 12" mix, if i don't think of it as being by new order..

I like the Substance version of Subculture, though I still prefer the Low-life version.
The 1994 Best Of version of BLT is my favourite one of this song. The Shep Pettibone (Substance) mix comes second, and the album version is my least favourite version of it.
The single version (is it the minimix?) of Spooky is better than the album one. In fact, most remixes of Spooky are great.
There is salso a ermix of Round & Round (the Club mix or the Detroit mix, can't remember) that I find better than the original one.
As for the rest, I can't think of any other song improved by remixing.
- "Lee Coombs Mix" is cool, very cool, but not better than Crystal original (very hard to be, I think).
- Any Confusion remix is greater than original.
- Somenone Like You, in 60 Miles An Hour CD single (2nd track, I don't remember its name)is fantastic, better than album version.
Stop the press!!!
As far as I know, TPK 12" IS NOT a remix, it's the original version, and the version on Low Life is an edit of it.
The only official TPK remixes are Kiss of Death and Perfect Pit. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.
So very surprised there are people that actually likes Sub-Culture version on Substance... ![]()
If there is any remix I prefer better than the original mix? Hard to say... perhaps "Regret - New Order Mix", since it's a remix done by themselves, and it looks like an extended-psychodelic mix... :\pimp3:
From what I recall, there was supposed to be another track on Low-Life, but they put a version of Perfect Kiss instead for some reason (I think it was in Brian Edge's book, I'll check when I come home), so that version definitely came later. As for remixes in general, some of them are very good, but they don't better the original. A mere good craftsman cannot better the work of a genius.
So far all of the remixes I like has been mentioned ( Regret Fire Island, BLT Pettibone, Crystal Lee Cooombs ) .....but what about SPOOKY - Stadium Mix by Tony Garcia..... i thought this remix has additional urgency to the beat...

from the claude flowers book: 'the narrator concluded, 'now i know the perfect kiss, is the kiss of death'. this all-important verse, the one which defined 'the perfect kiss', had to be cut to fit the lengthy song on the album'..
and yes, there are several other mixes:
- the 7" remix
- the 7" inst
- the video edit
- the full video version (different from 'retro')
