I think the US Someone Like You promo CD with all mixes is pretty rare too... the only place known where you have the Gabriel & Dresden remixes on CD as far as I know.

The Way of Life US 12" Promo must be, I still cry when I see mine.. broken!

If you like The Happy One... I have a copy (Thanks Old Blue, that was you right? ;) )

Don't know how limited it is, as it was sent to all Inrockuptibles' subscribers in France...

The rarest one I know about is FACT300, the Republic pre-mix cassette. Contains mostly instrumental mixes of the tracks that went on to form the album.

"About 5" were made.

I think I would actually kill someone to get my hands on one.

How about this "Area One Live in LA"-Promo CD-R ???

It was told by former Warner Media Directory that this is a bootleg recording... they put a Warner design on it, and it was only for their own use...

So it's as good as any bootleg you can find out there..

How do you define rare?

By numbers? (objecive approach)

In that case, I would add:

  • The BBC Transcription discs, especially #623 (Reading Festival on CD). The Transcription discs are very high quality live recordings that BBC oly sells to other radio stations. A very, very limited number is made. I've heard around 20, but would guess up to 50.

  • Acetates. Especially the non-released DreamsNeverEnd/Truth and OnlyTheLonely (aka. Ectasy) actetates.

  • Metallic testpress of TPK (7LYN15645-1) with an alternate remix. One copy exists.

  • The red vinyl version of BM from NZ. Can't remember exactly the numbers but I believe only one or two copies exists. Anyone?

  • Argentinian testpress of Technique with withdrawn cover.

  • The 3:20 version of Brutal. Less than 5 CDRs made by London. They were recalled.

  • Some of the later CDR promos. For example, Various 7" Versions, Get Ready "Not Final", TF2k1 "Morel's Mixes", 60mph David Kahne Recall 2 (2-4 copies).

  • Palatine promo, 75 copies.

  • Lots of other promos. E.g. CA CD promo of Technique, TECH-1.

  • Not to mention the non-music items, such as the 12" Ruler, TF paperweight, Little Lewie, and the TBTHOG (soccer) football (30 were made).

Now, if rarity is not defined by the numbers, but by a mix of numbers and scarceness of tracks and format, other items would be added (IMHO):

  • Translucent vinyl of Movement.
  • Vida Pobre (Low-Life LP from Argentina)
  • Substance DAT
  • BM misspressed 12" b/w LWTUA
  • Tutti Frutti
  • CD versions of From Brussels With Love and A Quick Neat Job.

There are, of course, a lot more items to search for...

Is this a way of telling me my discography is not up to date? :D

How do you mean? compiling the list? or using other sites to get info?

Maybe we could keep this list in addition to the discography, make it strictly vinyl, CD and cassette possibly including acetates.

I'm starting to think many people here would like to be able to compile their collection from the discography here...

A kind of shopping cart, then save it to your profile, accessible from the profile.. this way, if someone is looking for an item, he could see who has it in his collection...

This way, we can see what's rare for people online! in the discography you can see that x people own this item, etc..

I was just thinking the same and guess what... VIDA POBRE is ONE of my FINEST additions! As is FINE TIME in PINK COVER DJ so has not to upset the Djs with the PILL reference! Of the 21 i have only STREETWISE Confusion,RETRO 5,Run2 7INCH and 12 INCH and FAC26 Canadian BLT.Also got the FLEXI HAC one which is CRAP. I have the WEATHERALL REGRET and nine FAC53s. Hooky's POT NOODLE(Empty)...BEEF/TOM flavour...lovely. But most of all i have the MUSIC...so good it HURTs. I have just forgot to mention number 50 of the DOUBLE SUBSTANCE is MINTY MINT condition but this still only makes it 7 from 21.So not very good there ROCKET!Come on HIBSTER ...have another check cos this has been editted since i last checked.Bet you have MORE than 7!Come on...out with em!:D

alas mick I have no more than before

only the run 2 7 & 12 (though have a couple of the run2 12"s) substance box cassette & the gatefold substance (cant remember my number) blt gatefold (withdrawn wasn't it?) 7" & retro UK 5 disc.

technique on DAT must be quite limited & surely the cdv singles are rarer than retro?

Think I've got those BM's Murv (although not to sell) - could you describe them? - have you heard of the acetate of BM, I haven't a clue where that came from.

What's the BM with white sleeve with red diagonal slash - the 12" on 10"? (or 7").

Anyone got the 7" with orange and black label 'Dreams Never End'. A picture disk interview thing?

I wish I hadn't put my Low-Life inserts on the wall - never mind.

What's a Low-Life poster worth these days? - is this rare? - what about True Faith poster (the blue background)?
