New Order top 20 rare releases

well to be honest after reading the lists posted, the term new order and rare releases really dont make sense. ive been a new order fan since the jd days and not a single track in any of the lists isnt easily available in some form from a retail/high street shop,ie: you can hear it in some form anywhere. live bootlegs excepted. ok ok misprints ,artwork,coloured vinyl ect i can see the interest for a die hard fan but ffs the songs are not rare. you can count on one hand the recorded rare material from new order or should i say half of one hand if you dont count bootlegs.

1.touch tape with mag (video 586)original version, got it 2.hac crimbo flexi (utter crap) ,got it 3.subculture (record mirror giveaway) got it.

now even rarer than anything on any of these lists is something from joy division. its on closer and a video was made for the track,can anyone guess what it is?;)

RARE - for most groups and solo artists it is nearly always
RELEASED tracks but in a certain FORMAT or LABEL that then makes it rare.Of course this is VERY subjective but for me it was not about collecting RARE items per se but just that i liked the different FORMATS and COVERS.Remember too that usually one had NO BLOODY idea if anything was hard to come by and i for one did not know one single person who had any NEW ORDER records apart from my ex-sister in law who had the ALTERNATE CEREMONY which i blagged.PROMOS which could be difficult to get hold of BEFORE the record came out was also difficult before the INTERNET.But now we all find out from DAY ONE what is available and WHEN this has made the joy of searching records out much less fun for me.I think this is the price we pay for GLOBAL SHARING.But as one who has made his collection available to NOOL's to listen to(which IS as good as OWNING and much less hassle)i think that as long as one is not CONNED into paying more than a reasonable price NOW for NEW ORDER there is no harm done.I have never sold any "RARE" and indeed any normal NEW ORDER records but have given away the odd hard to find PROMO of ELECTRONIC or a duplicate i have owned in NOT AS MINTY MINT as my other copy i have kept.But for us OLD TIMERS who could pay £3 tops for a 12 inch i know that if i was starting to COLLECT now it would be expensive.Probably the joy of getting NEW ORDER records as gifts for XMAS and birthdays are my most treasured artefacts.But let's not kid ourselves...it is the original tracks that are the best in most cases,memories from GIGS for the LIVE lovers and the comradeship when meeting fellow NOOL's (but not when you meet me,SHUGZV or MAJOR) that really counts. Cost of records...a few quid. Cost of the NEW ORDER memories ...PRICELESS. And MIKE don't be sneaking around APPLEJAX and following me home to nick my most RARE item....my P45! Regards ROCKET MICK

Just looking at tracks makes the list much different. And it also depends on if you count tracks performed live but not studio-recorded, obscure remixes, and edits of tracks.

I can't comment on live performances, but many DJ subscription service remixes (Hot Tracks, DiscoTech, Art of Mix, Prime Cuts, DMC, etc.) are pretty hard to come by. BTW: The Record Mirror version of Subculture is just a fade-out version of one of Razormaid's remixes.

Other tracks worth a mention is:

1. the JP 7" version of Blue Monday (pressuming it exits... ;) )
2. first recording of Ceremony (well, at least it's tricky to find out which one you have... :) )
3. the alternate remix of The Kiss Of Death (it's on an acetate)
4. I think there's a rare edit of TPK on some CA promo, but I'm not sure
5. the 7:59 version of TBTHOG (12" Version) as only found on the JP and GE CDs of Salvation
6. the ever so slightly different 7" edit of BM88 on the CDV
7. the Eschreamer mixes of TF94
8. there may also be some rare remix/edit of BM95 - can't recall where exactly
9. the different radio edits of Brutal (all shorter than 4 minutes)
10. some Morel remix of TF 2k1
11. same goes for some remixes of SLY
12. The Peter Saville Soundtrack could also become a rarity
13. and don't forget the various demo-versions, pre-release versions of Get Ready and Republic come to mind. And then there's always the Western Works demo...

So how rare is Video 586 from 1997, I picked it up on CD and 12".

Also got a 12" DJ promo of World (The Price of Love), were there many of these made?

Also have the Republic Era stuff on cassette too, liked the New Order mix of Vicious Circle on there.

(Don't think these have had a mention yet): Was thinking about the Japanese 3" CD singles for Touched and Blue Monday '88? (Nice items) Not seen these for sale much in the last 22 years... Must be pretty rare nowadays but it depends how many were printed.
