well, i think no one understands why Vanishing Point was never released as a single. i´ll add colse range to those. i thought it may have been a better choice than 60MPH.
Something, ANYTHING off Power, Corruption and Lies. Your Silent Face wouldn't have done well, Age of Consent might have possibly. Could always bank on Leave Me Alone.
Also, why the hell is Times Change in there?

Because it's my poll and I like Times Change. I actually thought it might be the second single off Republic when I first heard it.

I've never really been arsed about the distinction between singles and album tracks myself, although I suppose it may mean more "mainstream" appeal for the Order.
To me, any recorded output is good. I s'pose I agree that the guys could have cashed in on the success of "Making Out" (the BBC TV programme which had VP as the theme music), so that would seem the logical choice.
As much as I lurve AOC, I just don't think the outside world would have been ready for that, so soon after Blue Monday (hence the rather obscure hip-hop fest that was Confusion !).

Voted for Turn My Way. Not a huge BC/SP fan (though they're not bad) I really love that song. Having said that, Vanishing Point is pure class too.
As happens a lot, if this poll happened next week, it could be the other way round.
Voted for Turn My Way, but with all the threads on this subject, I now know for sure that it should have been a single IN NORTH AMERICA... not in the UK, for some reason, this songs seems to have fan only from North Americans...
It would have been perfect to promote the Area:One tour WITH Billy Corgan, but well, I was expecting to see New Order back in North America in late 2001, but September 11th changed probably all the plans, since Get Ready was released 2 months later in the US and Canada, and that Crystal went to #1 of the Billboard Dance Chart, with Billy Corgan on the track, this song was PERFECT for the market out here, this was meant to be a top 10 hit without any problem....
Go figure, instead the US did Someone Like You promos and finally, there has not been a 2nd single in North America at all.. Reprise pulled the plug on New Order...
The only reason I can see why this never happened would be because of the Get Ready sales out here, and because the band didn't want to do any promotional work for Get Ready in the US, nobody could blame them after 9-11 isn't it?
Now, since we had to chose only one... Vanishing Point should have been a single instead of Fine Time IMHO, there is a rumour it was going to be a single in 1994 but at the last minute they changed their mind and did True Faith 94.. hence why Vanishing Point is on the best of album...
They released 1963 8 years later, who knows, Vanishing Point could be released today and I think it would be welcomed, it still sounds fresh!

...and now this isn't the famous running-gag! But i think "Love Vigilantes" would have made a good single. In terms of arrangement, melodies, hookline would've been a good choice. i can also imagine a great and arty video for this one!

i completely agree with you, Marco. Love Vigilantes is one of my favorite New Order songs. it's beautiful and wonderful and magnificently arranged.

well, it was originally going to be, but then the band fired the person who wanted to release it as a single and decided to release Fine Time instead.
(or something like that; i read that a while ago on some New Order FAQ - possibly on this site).

It's live, but it is a promotional video...
i think paradise would have made a great single, and may have done fairly well in the charts. it may have even done ok on this side of the atlantic (relatively speaking).

More seriously, I like the idea of releasing singles that are not on the album and albums without singles from them.
An album should be considered as a whole: a dozen songs of 4 minutes each, put together in a coherent way. A single should consist of 1 main song (the "A-side"), 7 or 8 minutes long, and a few "B-sides" that wouldn't make it on an album because of their more experimental or "one-shot" nature.
It would be great if New Order started doing that again. Will there ever again be long, envelope-pushing, experimental singles conceived as epics for the 12" format, like "Temptation", "Blue Monday", "Confusion", "Thieves Like Us" and "Perfect Kiss"?
And remember the days of albums with eight tracks and no singles.
Things could be changing, though. In the UK, where I am, only two singles were released from "Get Ready", as against four from the previous "Republic". John Squire's new album "Time Changes Everything" had just one single released (which bombed), and that was after the LP came out. Ian Brown's "Music of the Spheres" had two singles released off it, one less than both his previous LPs. And The Cure's last album, "Bloodflowers", featured no singles at all.
So maybe the next New Order album will have only one or two singles released from it, or perhaps none. Well, none is unlikely, because they always seem to write at least one brilliant hit single per album, but I think the days are gone when albums by acts like New Order, Morrissey and Pet Shop Boys were milked for at least four and often five singles.

Don't you think that these albums are actually albums without the singles included on it? So meaning PC&L should have Temptation, Everything's Gone Green & Blue Monday on it, and Movement should have Ceremony/Procession on it? ;)

I've always liked Angel Dust for some reason but as nobody else seems to I am looking for an excuse not to like it so that I can expunge this streak of individualism in me.

Angel Dust is brilliant IMO. I see it as too dark and strange to trouble the charts. May have appealed to the goths me thinks.

Love vigilantes to this day remains the most played song on American Radio. When Low-life came out every college DJ in America played this song. Of course, I can understand why Quincy Jones wouldn't want to celebrate his new alliance w/ one of the hottest club acts in the world w/ a verse/chorus/verse/chorus/solo/verse/chorus rock song.
From that list "Love Vigilantes". But I can't believe "Face Up" is not in this poll. It still has Number 1 written all over it.
