THE OTHER TWO - "SUPERHIGHWAYS" TOTALLY OVERLOOKED POP GEM OR WHAT????!!!!

It seems everybody keeps debating at great length the side-projects of New Order: Electronic, Revenge and Monaco, but nobody has even acknowledged that most elusive and overlooked project - Steve and Gillian's THE OTHER TWO. Why only in 1999 did they sneak out - with absolutely no press,fanfare,promotion,etc (yep, it's those great folks at London Fuckin' Records again...) their second - and best - album: SUPERHIGHWAYS - chock full of great dance-pop gems that consolidated the Order's knack for pure melodic sequenced hooks. And topped off with Gillian's dreamy wistful vocals: the best songs are the title track, The River / Unwanted / Hello / Ripple /Cold Feet, and featuring special guest Melanie (Sub Sub) Williams, who provides those soaring "WOOAAAAAAAAAAARRRRGGGHHH!! BAAADY-FOR-HORMM!!!"-esque backing vocals on You Can Fly / One Last Kiss. This album was truly criminally ignored. Perhaps the reason most New Order fans didn't even give it the time of day was because it has "Girly" vocals on it, whereas most would have no reservations about expressing their full unanimous appreciation of the other three "male-only" side projects. A touch of prejudice perhaps? Come on! "Superhighways" is so good, it pisses over any bloody Revenge record!! .......Let's have your verdicts please!!!!

If Seb would put it in the audio archives, I'll give it a listen. Never run across anything by the Other Two in the local stores.

I should listen back to that second album, since it comes from you, Martin.

Anyway, if I prefer Electronic to The Other Two, I prefer The Other Two to Revenge or Monaco.

I bought their first album, and I believe I listened to it once.

Theres a copy at two different local music stores, I'll buy it here pretty soon. I don't think anyone else in this podunk, white trash town will buy them, so I'm in no hurry.

The vocals on the last track on Superhighways are dire. One last kiss is great though. I ordered you can fly single but it was never released so i got the superhighways single free later. Nice.

I've got nothing better to do....yes that's right, I'm gonna sit here until it's available. No, wait, that would be sad..

Their first LP WAS half-baked, but it takes only a little bit of perseverance to see that their second one is a VAST improvement, Gillian's singing is better, the songs are stronger, and unlike the first LP which harboured too many instrumental fillers, this last one only has two - and they're pretty good too, even if one of them does rip off Dubstar (oh dear)! But then, if fluffy girly-vocal pop isn't your thing, I suppose you won't change your opinion.

The Superhighways Cd was great. I remember when it first came out. I wasn't very interested when it first came out. But I got it anyways because I liked the first cd. And after I herd it. I was like "WOW" this is a really good CD. I even told my friend it's really good so he decided to get it as well, and he was blown away as well. We made it one of our 10 best Cd's of all time.

I think Amazon might still sell it?

Unfortunately i never ever detected any The Other Two stuff in any dutch record shop. Very sad. Anybody anywhere outthere who can tell me how to lay hands on any material?
