favourite 'crap' bands

No, not crap; "crap"!- that could be what other people think of as crap

probably cos they haven`t even bothered to give it a listen before they make their assumptions, as with my mates and new order..

a lot of the stuff mentioned is fucking good in my opinion..leonard cohen, isaac hayes, the klf, the human league(the first 2 albums and love action at least), t-rex, throbbing gristle....;and shed seven arent that shameful, were not talking ocean colour scene here now are we. as for myself, im an unashamed lover of cheesy music, especially disco and naff handbag housey style pop. ive always beem quite brazen about it (much to the mirth of many of the idiots i know who fancy themselves as musos) and at one stage myself(and my mate soph) found ourselves in demand as "cheesy" djs at uni. didn`t last long though cos although we thought our sets were gorgonzola fests, the punters thought our tastes rather obscure...anyway here is a little sampler of my favourite cheesy tunes:

MacArthur Park-Richard Harris (so bad it hurts) She's a Lady-Tom Jones Le Freak-Chic Disco Inferno-Trammmps Caribbean Queen-Billy Ocean Eyes Without a Face-Billy Idol To Make You Feel My Love-Garth Brooks (Dylan wrote it, so that helps ease the pain) Best Thing That Ever Happened-Gladys Knight and the Pips When Doves Cry-Prince 1999-Prince I Believe (When I Fall In Love)-Stevie Wonder Superstition-again, Stevie Wonder Love Plus One-Haircut 100 Someday, Someway-Marshall Crenshaw Caught Up In You-38 Special Heard It In A Love Song-Marshall Tucker Band Funky Cold Medina-Tone Loc

Some of these are really good songs that anyone would appreciate, some are sorta campy, others are just pure rubbish that I put up for pure nostalgia. I'll leave it up to you guys to decide which is which

It's intersting how many crap pop songs from the Eighties I love simply because they remind me of my youth. Hell, the Wedding Singer soundtrack had some dope stuff (Pass the Dutchie, please)......

Taboo, nothing wrong with admitting to this song. It's a classic, the funkiest song of all time. I actually bought the Talking Book album a few weeks ago, just for this track.

must be the advancing years for I'm sure a couple of years ago I wouldn't have entertained the idea of buying Neil Diamond's greatest hits...............

Hall and Oates, the poster boys for crap rock in the Eighties, the perfect "are they or aren't they" couple of rock music (up there with Boy George and his drummer, Grace Slick and the rest of Jefferson Airplane, and Simon and Garfunkel). I remember those guys. I Can't Go For That, i tell ya now......

Okay, well my embarrassing pop idol is NIK KERSHAW!!

Okay, it was hardly boundry pushing music, but he wrote and produced all his own stuff and for his time I still think he was the best out of all the early eighties pop heroes.

I didn't like anyone else remotely uncool at the time, so I've got nothing else to confess other than I was a BIG fan of Big Audio Dynamite.

I've actually bought Nik's last two albums as well so you could say I'm STILL a fan.

Actually that could be a contender. I seem to remember the video for one of his songs (can only remember 2 of his hits, being a young pup) where he stopped playing guitar and went into a keyboard solo. The crowd went into Beatles-esque raptures at this rock moment. I on the other hand went into a spasm of laughter at possibly the naffest rock moment known to man (and woman).

You just can't do the rock thing with a keyboard.

I think you 'll find that lyric you quoted was from an absolutely ANCIENT (as in 1972) song by Manchester band The Hollies. Air Supply had a huge hit in 1979 with "I'M ALL OUT OF LOVE", and then promptly disappeared without trace. Good.

I bought singles and LPs by crap bands during the 1980's by the truck load, but I'm screwed if I'm going to start prattling on at great length and listing them all now. Life's too short..... I mean, how long have you guys got??

Let me correct myself: The Fat Boys starred in "Disorderlies", not Orderlies. Shit, I can't believe I just checked to see if I had gotten the title right or not...

That's the Great Triumverate of Crap, my friend! NKOTB, VI, and the Hammer are musical stars we all cringe at remembering. I am proud to say at no point whatsoever did I purchase anything by those bastards. Behind the Music wouldn't exist without these three.
