okay, so i was thinking about the vocal track on this song. i can't figure out if i like them for being true to the moment they were recorded, or if another take (with out the giggles) would've done the song more justice.

from a musical standpoint, this song has the potential to be one of the greatest ballads NO has done. GG's strings after the pause, through to the end, are beautiful. the record-scratch at the end is a good way to mark the end of the album. but on the other end, we have barney's laughing and some plinking-banjo stuff that contradicts the mood.

is this some work of genius, or just some apathetic kids fucking around with thier own song?

Every Little Cunts was the biggest pile of shit they have ever recorded. Perverse northern humour?. Newe Order don't do ballads, they're not Wet Wet Wet

what's vicious streak, if it isn't a ballad?

Every Little Counts,Ultraviolence,Chemical and Chosen Time .These are the worst songs they had written in my opinion.I just can't listen to them and I am not deaf

That was originally called Vicious Steak written about the time Hooky lost a tooth tucking into a tough piece of beef.

Or Run Wild.......

I just hate New Order ballads

so, in your opinion, why is 'every little counts' such a pile of crap?

When i first got "Brotherhood" i played it at least everyday. One time my sister and i were listening to it when my dad was home, when he heard the scratching at the end of "Every Little Counts" he ran into the living room screaming "What have you done to my record player". We explained to him it was the song and nothing to do with his precious Bang & Olufsen (or however you spell it), still he made me play the end of the song while watching the stylus, just to make sure, while me and my sister were dying of laughter. For that reason "Every Little Counts" is one of my favourite New Order songs.

Where is the link between Thieves and Every Little Counts? The music of Thieves is infinately better. The lyrics spoil it but it's still great musically. I was transfixed when they debut it at the Hacienda. It is leaps and bounds above Every Little counts musically and even lyrically.

i wasn't linking the two. i figured, while we are on the subject of giving opinions, i'd ask you as to why you think 'every little counts' is a pile of shit.

Barney's humor is fine on stage, but if I wanted novelty songs I'd buy the Wiggles

i like the song personally. it adds a bit of humour to the album. and as for the "scratch" and the end of the track ,how many other bands ever did anything like this in the 80"s? the person who described the track as crap obviously doesnt know what they are on about! steve smith,uk :)

I think Equatronic's cover is infinitely better. There are no giggles, the synth bassline makes the song sound more interesting, and the music (about halfway through) is superior to New Order's. And for some reason, the lyrics sound less stupid when sung by a female. And, it doesn't have the cut into another song, followed by a huge scratch that turn this song into noise. Not a fan of the original, but hats off to Equatronic for making it listenable to me. Other than this, I don't much care for Run Wild or Liar. I even prefer Vietnam, Shellshock, Shame Of The Nation and Rock The Shack to this.
