Sounds cool to me..never meant to be a north/south divide topic..in fact the original post was a tribute to northern music.

Obviously, like anyone I reckon,I do get a bit sensitive when anyone slags off your homeplace.

Hey,I'm only joking. ;) My boss is from Wolverhampton and I can't understand a bloody word he says half the time.To be honest,there is a real dirth of decent bands from these parts.The only person whose made it is probably Craig David, and the bass player from Blur. Wowee.

The answer is: Over the past twenty years they've deliberately downgraded all but THREE of the 12 "A"-class roads that radiate from it to "secondary" road status so as to virtually bypass the city's standing as a primary route destination. Honestly - it's true. Take a look at any road atlas for the years 1979, 1984, 1988, 1992, 1996 and 2000, and marvel at how during that time, it's status as an important route centre has been diminished!!!!! No wonder The Specials were so fucking pissed off.

Sorry to be adamant, Mr. Fradley, but , geographically, it is, even if "technically" "administratively" or "politically" or even, DAMMIT, "sartorially", it doesn't seem like it. Northamptonshire is only just above it. So it should be regarded as a "South Midlands" town. So suck on that, baby.

That's becuz I've been at work all day and only just been let out coupla hours ago, so I'm belatedly replying/taking issue with/dealing more stunning revelations from my perch to those posters who stirred abit of the good ole GRAY matter up there.... that's all. I was born in Cov and have to admit it probably has the worst city centre in Britain but only run a close second by Liverpool. But some great bands came out of Cov in the early 80's.

Has anyone ever been to Malton (Sp?) in Yorkshire? Now that is a one horse town...

Liverpool????!! That's a bit spurious. There's some pretty damn fine architecture there all told. It's cleaned itself up a lot over the years, all we need to do now is to clean the streets of the dickhead contingent that you probably get in every city up and down the land. (Hello, Manchester,, are you listening??)

Mind you, for a city centre even more depressing than Coventry, try Salford. Only one snag. It doesn't technically have one (a city centre, that is), more like several horrid 1960's shopping centres to show the world for. And that is the truth. I don't even dislike Salfordians. It's that shopping centre in Pendleton I can't stand.
It needs a bomb dropping on it.

Coventry is dire. i lived about 5 miles away from it when I lived in Warwick and went there no more than once a year.

Rotherham is The worst place I've ever been though. Really depressing. Slough's not much better mind
