Hi everybody,

The web application done by myself and running on this website is getting a bit old in time, and with my current occupation and the fact that I have a hard time working on this website (now that it's my day job to do websites, let's say I don't spend that much time doing it as a hobby), but we have a wonderful task force here, so it would be stupid not to give them more powers over the website.

So, because I think it would benefit everybody, I am suggesting to migrate the site on a commercial application instead of a custom one, which I've been using before, and that we had on this website once upon a while called Community Server, which you can see a demo here. Properly skinned and with the content imported in it (well, what i can import), it might turn out to be a good solution.

Also, it's no surprise that this website had less and less traffic since New Order split (or whatever), which gives less revenues from the google ads on the side and obviously, more money out of my pockets to run this website... Hopefully we can carry on as it is.

So, well, it's always nice to have everybody's input on what you think should be the future of this website, it's been really slow on news lately, and quite frankly, the lact of activity did drop my interest rate a bit... i still log on the website, but i am less active than i used to be.

So, feel free to tell what you think about all this.

have you considered something as simple as phpbb3, joomla, or wordpress? they are all free and can handle forum activity.

just a thought.

couldn't i just pay your hosting fee's for like 6 months. seems like a better alternative.

NOOL won't be as COOL without Nicos at the helm, but I guess we'll come to terms with it, just so long as NOOL survives in some form.

Nicos, Lets get rid of the friends/friends requests jobby/item,complete waste of webspace if you ask me!

The discography section needs a tweak too,personally,it would be better if it was the same format as the niagra/WIM type discog,all the info being on the same page as opposed to clicking on an item to view the discog.

Give the moderators more powers to ban people,i do know you are extremely busy and dont have much time to look at the site as much as you want,there are many people who visit the site more than once a day (myself included),perhaps the site needs more moderators?

Therefore,i would like to offer my services,to be,at your/the sites disposal,a moderator of any of the forums,whichever they may be.

I would also like to propose mr Steve Cambo campbell/the doctor,to also be a moderator of any forums.

As you are aware,i am currently in the process of building my own site and i am more than happy to help nool anyway i can,be it pictures or information/anything.

I think thats about everything..............

But,just wanted to say that i am more than happy to help in any way i can.

Definitely need more moderators (with more power) to get rid of the spammers and the idiots who spoil the forums. Also need people who who can keep the news sections regularly updated (admittedly there isnt a lot of news these days). New Order may have split up, but if the site is not to die a slow death then do that asap.

we can't get rid of NOOL. if you need me for anything (editing, etc.) i'd be more than happy to help.

not many people use the slavic forum, so maybe we could do without that (even though i am a moderator). other people have good ideas--getting rid of the message section, chat, etc.

i'm sure there are a lot of people who will help out on the site, nicos!

and who's gonna pay the following six months, and the six after that, and so on?! I don't mind a contribution but I don't think one single person should foot the bill. Anyway, I do agree with the others in that we definitely need more moderators, or at least more powers for the ones we have.

It would be criminal to let the archived information; song browser, gigography etc go.

As for the forum, sorry as I'd be to see it go, it wouldn't be the end of the world. A group so determined to post bollocks at one another would quickly find another home.

So, Nic, that would be my focus if I were you. Can't see why you should be at all worried about keeping something alive now that it's original intent has all but gone.

It must be a pain in the arse to manage and I know finance is an issue as well. I've chipped in over the years, many of us have, but I don't see the point now.

So my suggestion would be to preserve the information resource and turn off the forum.

We'll live without it, and of course we're all grateful for the years we've had and friends we've made.

On the contrary, there are better sites for information. The forum is the one [fairly] unique selling point, allowing people demonstrate their idiocy to viewers all over the world.

joomla & phpbb are great but I think the main problem for Nicolas is the space dedicated server that costs a lot.

There's others, depends what you want - I like a wide range of Factory stuff and news, If I want a list of gigs or stupid remixes I can go elsewhere. I supose my point is that it's the people on this site that make it 'alive'. The News on the front page has rarely been ahead, and going through the other menu options a disappointment. I always read the forums because it allows this dead band to live.

Cerysmatic is particularly good for news.

Re-reading my original post it does look like I meant that... I didn't - I was trying to suggest it's the forum that makes this place interesting - the other sites can't compete with it. The banter and assistance provided I would miss terribly! Sorry to hurt your feelings!

You didn't upset me, mate. Nobody would miss this place more than me. I'm just thinking of Nic. If his heart's not in it any more, why should he feel obliged to carry on?

I have no doubt at all that we'd find somewhere else to live and if there's nowhere suitable out there one of us would have enough nous to set one up.

I like your point that this site keeps the band alive, in a way, but it's not like the band themseves are actually dead. If they don't want to carry on, it does seem a bit daft us doing so.

But as I said, I'm sure I'll be amongst the last to post here whatever happens.

Well, it's hard for me to find info about the problems with the re-releases on all of those sites. They all seem to be focused on historical information. So I suppose that's one reason why a forum like this is important. I wouldn't have even known about the problems or the re-re-release plans without this forum.

The band may be done, but the band members are still doing stuff, and there's no telling what the future may hold. Plus there's a wealth of personal information here (thirty years of memories lodged in your thick heads) that's difficult or impossible to find elsewhere. I'm not that active, but I'd be very sad if this went away.

If traffic is down surely bandwidth usage is down as well, so maybe a streamlined site using free forum software is the way to go. I agree that the community is the strongest asset here; those of us who live abroad have few other options for maintaining contact with it.

Copied the links direct from my 'favourites' menu (that's how I spell it, fuck Microsoft), obviously not updated for a while! I agree it's a labour of love keeping sites going and my earlier comments are no reflection on the energy Nic has put into this site.

I still enjoy this site and am happy to over my services if there's anyway I can help. Nic's put too much into it over the years to see it evaporate...

BTW is there still a link where you can sign up to the Ceremony list? I still receive the messages (to an old email account) but can't post.
