LEAST favourite NO Studio LP

I blame Maja for this one, but I think she's right - WFTSC may get the least votes as favourite album, but its probably not the least favourite either.

So, which LP is your least fave - and why?

For me its actually LowLife - these days there are only 3 songs on that (PFD Sunrise & Eligia) that I listen to with any regularity

WFTSC isn't that bad, but it's not as good as the others by a long way.

Sorry:( In my defence, I love all the lp's thats just my least loved, probably 7 out of 10 for me.

BROTHERHOOD for me (Sorry, Alan ;) ) My favourite track on it was All Day Long. But besides Paradise, Weirdo, Broken Promise and BLT... oops it looks like a helluva good songs on it actually :D Anyway there are several bollocks that turn me off :( I could never listen to As It When It Was.

My second least favourite is POWER, CORRUPTION & LIES. I know it's a seminal record and all that but I heard it in 1994 for the first time and it was the last NO album I bought for my collection back then, having all other albums bought by then. I guess it couldn't impress me much in comparison. :\ohwell:

Does anyone remember buying Smash Hits in the 80's? They used to run MOST FAVE and LEAST FAVE polls - quite often the reader's most favourite was also the least favourite - i.e. loads of people loved WHAM! just as many hated them...

They dropped the LEAST FAVE as a result... Doesn't look like that will happen here (mirrored results in opposite polls), but it's one of those things were you get a judge of passion be it negative or positive; sometimes the balance of powers is equal...

Attention: Craigy is cheating, he voted for WFTSC TWICE!!! :D

You know that "negative" polls are always more attractive. And people are more active in their hatred than love. So this poll will unleash our passion!

Republic for me too. Only Regret, World, Ruined & Special stood out for me. More Hooky needed.

WFTSC, just cant get into it, nothing stands out to me but the title track. and Jetstream still sucks

Movement for me. Its just not an album you can just stick on and play. Youve got to be in the mood. And a bad mood at that!! Its very dark, the guitars are all tinny and need more beefing up. The lyrics are just trying to be Joy Division but fall flat. And Barney is obviously still finding his way vocally.

I also read that NO hate that album too and wanted to re-record it because of Martin Hannett's poor production. It was a shame they didnt get their wish.

Brotherhood. At least Republic has got three good songs on it.

WFTSC certainly has more tones and colour than Republic - I think I like Republic slightly better because it tends to stick to one musical tone which is what I look for when I plonk on an LP - a certain mood...

I think I also like Republic slightly better because it documents a very spiky time in NO history; factory collapsed, the Hac closed, NO is on life support, everyone is thinking about spin offs... The fact they came back from that place is amazing to say the least...

WFTSC is good - I give it seven out of ten, but I give the other albums more out of ten - it has some smashing tracks - I just wish it was less scattergun... (some tracks sublime, some awkward).

Get Ready had way more consistency in comparison; a very defiant and agreeablely noisy album, apart from Run Wild; the only track that didn't fit, although they were clever with this; they put it at the end of the LP.

Come on, Republic ain't that bad...

'Movement' No contest. 'Dreams Never End' is the only good song. Followed closely by Get Ready.

Movement. It's not hard to see why and it must've been very difficult for them at the time.

Rob knew that they, even though they were all grieving a great amount after the death of their friend, they owed it to themselves and their music to continue.

Completing some of the final songs written with Ian must've been very hard at times. Barney had drawn the short straw to become lead vocalist which is never an easy job anyway. Dreams Never End and Truth stand out for me as examples of that transitional period but the album generally is quite patchy musically and Hannett's state at the time couldn't have helped. Movement is the sound of a legendary band and their producer slowly moving apart.

Hannett quit because he wanted a Fairlight for his studio and the Order, Wilson and Gretton voted in favour of opening the Hac instead.

wftsc is my least favorite, its missing risk and feeling to me. Infact, I've been listening to Electronic a lot lately. I'd have to say I'm really enjoying them right now! Anyway, I love true faith and 1963. Although, looking back on it (and Republic) that Stephen hauge guy originally put hooky's bass lower in the original mix of 1963 didn't he? And the 95 version by baker brought it back out. Damn him, ruining Republic like that. Oh well, still a good album, .

movement... they weren't fully developed into new order at that point. it's not as good as either joy division lp (although i can barely listen to closer these days... can't listen to pornography or any bauhaus anymore either (other than third uncle and ziggy stardust)) and it's got absolutely nothing on 81-82 ep. just an underdeveloped album.

movement. besides DNE, i think it's pretty damn boring.

Judging it via the LPs I revisit the least, PC&L.

I'll abstain from voting (since I don't have all of their albums as of now), but I must say that I really enjoy Movement: it has an almost hypnotic effect on me, and it's so moody and dark. The synths are very primitive sounding, and Barney's voice is distorted and fragile, both of which create a rather eerie sound and atmosphere. I'd even prefer it, as a whole, to Technique, which is much less cohesive (even though it contains a few of my favourite tracks).
