Ij think the whole song is terrible. It's lijke a joke song to me. Ij can only listen to it after Ij have been heavily drinking.... it sort of numbs my appreciation of the bad points about the song. Pardon me.

The B-side is even worse. Just what were they thinking?

1. this song is one of the best things they ever did. Cant sit still when listening to it. I like the lyrics. Actually I like all versions from this song. It is a perfect combination of guitar en dance music. And a year later they made PCL. Wow those were the days :)!

1. Best bit is the lyric, "Thoughts (or bolts, or whatever it is) from above hit the people down below, people in this world we have no place to go". That sends chills down my spine.

2. Worst bit? I don't think there is one. I slightly prefer the Substance version over the original though (sorry!).

3. I love this song from start to finish. New Order's breakthru "guitar song" as opposed to their breakthru "dance song" with Blue Monday. Just a masterpiece.

I love this song. It is really unique for them. Perhaps their first song that completely sheds the Joy Division legacy--they finally become their own band.

WHAT THE HELL? Is this guy completely insane? This song's a classic! Here are my thoughts:

1. Best bit: All of it
2. Worst bit: The fact that it has to end
3. Why I love it: When I was first getting into NO, this was one of the songs that really grabbed my attention; I'd never heard anything like it before. Even now, I still remember that feeling every time I listen to it.
4. Percentage rating: 100%
5. Favourite drink: Alcoholic - Archers Aqua (especially the peach and raspberry flavours); non-alcoholic - Coke

The solo on the 12" featuring the sequencer, drum machine and Hooky's base meandering all over the place.

Love it for Bernard's rather deadpan vocals (cue all early Order) which unfortunately only ever featured again on the next release, Blue Monday. (I liked his 'old' voice). The rather agricultural sequencers combined with powerful drums and the sound effects at the end.

Orkney dark Island Beer, single malt whisky and Rum & Coke (Not combined)

1. The opening sequencer line, and all the variations and changes to it over the years. Oh, and the lyrics - Heaven, a gateway of hope. I could go on.

3. I once saw it described in Smash Hits as a song you should give to the most cherished person in your life at least once a year. Says it all. And the memories - it was the theme music to my 1980's.

I love the original version, the version on "Substance" is a pale imatation of the original. My favourite version is from "Taras Shevchenko", otherwise known as "3 16".

Best bit - the huge, rambling guitar intro on the 12 inch (1981/1982) version & the fact that I can play the keyboard bits Worst bit ? rate: 92% - perty damn good! Drink Brandy & red lemonade - Im 36, at my age you cant drink much guinness anymore

1. Best Bit The "nonsense" lyrics, I'm sure in years to come music students will put some sort of meaning to them and debate furiously what he was trying to say. The early live version is classic, souynds liek he was off his tits making them up as he went along.

2. Worst Bit Everything else they've done has to live up to its reputation.

While we are here... I'll tell all these Stella lovers a story. I visit Belgium a lot and its sold in 1 litre plastic bottles to be drunk mostly by Alcoholics. I've only ever seen tourists drink it in the pub. When told how its marketed in the UK a belgium national will piss themselves laughing and mutter "but its the worst beer in belgium"

Hmmm, as long as this topic is back at the forefront, I have a Temptation question. This has been bugging me for about a month now. Right around Thanksgiving, I was at the Gap here in L.A.. I was just about to leave the store when I heard the music for Temptation come on. I could immediately tell it was a cover, but when the vocals kicked in, they were completely new lyrics. Basically it was a girl on vocals with guy coming in every now and then to rap during the barney riff. I asked one of the employees if they knew who sang it but of course she didn't know.

Fast forward to yesterday and I hear it again at another Gap. It must be on a Gap Holiday Mix cd of theirs or something, I don't know. The song really isn't that great, I'm just really curious about what group is doing it.

Anyone have any idea??

I love the song. Or I used to love it... I'm a bit bored of it. I don't know why - maybe because they perform it at EVERY gig. And as a matter of fact it became so perfect and polished - a real masterpiece of course - but that's what eventually got me tired of that.

My favourite version is the 1993 Montereiuxx one. I was never really fond of the Substance version (too loud and messy) and I heard the original 12" & 7" vesrions only a few years ago. Man, they sound so gloomy! But they have a charm. ;)

But I've always appreciated the original b-side (as it was on Substance), "Hurt". What the hell were they doing in the studio?? Sounds fantastic and extraordinary.

The 1982 12" is absolute perfection. Can't be topped. I must have played it thousands of time. Then there are the live bootleg versions.

The 1987 version is "too commercial".

At one point I thought this was there best song. However, New Order has servel good songs, It's hard to rate this song to me. I guess it's in the mood I'm in. If you ask me next week, I'll say it's the best ever. They have so many good songs it's hard to say. But I do place it in my top 5 No songs list.

What is there to say about Temptation. It is New Order's finest work of art period. I like the version on the Singles album the best. I like Temptation when it sounds like it just came out. Love, love, love that song!

1. Where do I start? The lead-in to the green/blue/grey eyes part, and the way it seems to pick up momentum towards the end.
2. Always will be slightly bittersweet for me as I associate it with one particular guy who had those green/blue/grey eyes.
3. I love the dodgy lyrics, the whole atmosphere of the song, the beat, the "oooh's"...and it's the absolute perfect tempo to walk to.
