I assumed it was something racist. That's about the only thing I would think would make a player do something like that in a World Cup final, with the outcome very much in doubt. Calling him a bald twat with a fat whore for a mother probably wouldn't do it, IMO.

Whatever it was; personal, political or even racist, ZZ should have risen above it. Violence (the headbutt) is worse than any insulting words. It's all part of the game. A witty retort or waving around your winners medal at the end is the best response.

Yeah, no doubt ZZ made a big mistake. Returning words with violence is never good, especially in a World Cup final! Not that he has to worry about it anymore, but that would incite other players to shout insults at him to try and draw a red card in the future.

the thing is who the f*** was materazzi before the final result to have a "little bit trash-talk" with zz? how can you be sure that was a little bit? do you know how does it feel an algerian when you call him (if it is real) terrorist? nobody says that zz reaction was correct. actually is a really bad example for new fans- but he show us that gods are gods and players are humans. when you are zizou and you are walking away after a little bit trash talk you are expecting from the others to stop.
