Still I, then, permit man's insatiable cupidity to tie me down to a sameness alien to my habits? Go up, if you like, but only on condition that you will not feel abused when my sport requires you fall. Didn’t you know about my habits?

Ger Boy;

Er - finishing 4th is not winning but does allow us to qualify for Champions League as we have done for the past 4 years, hence pulls money in. I'll take that. And as I have stated, clearly, I would rather this than throw the cash about as City and Chelsea have done so, and Spurs while we're at it. Arsenal will inevitably spend those kinds of money eventually, but no - I won't be happy with it, because it's only this way because of clubs like City and Chelsea and Arsenal have proven there is another way - but everyone so keen for football to buy success and not grow it. What about other clubs in the Premiership who won't have those means or stature?

On the subject of Spurs - I just had lunch with Robbie Keane - no, I'm not joking.

I think most fans now,well fans who are old enough to remember the 'we are all in this together' times...are getting a bit sick of being exploited..Crowds are dropping off alarmingly most everywhere now,for various reasons..

Take Joey Barton as an example of fans being taken the piss out off. Here we have a little fuckpig,who thinks it's clever to stove 16 year old kids in Macdonalds,and stab cigars out in peoples eyes,yet his club still pay him £13,000 a week in 'image rights' alone,including £145,000 whilst in jail.

When something like this can happen,the whole game is in financial disrepute as far as I can see. We're having a less extreme,yet still galling experience with Mido here at Boro..It's just all wrong,put simply.

hey i love greggs. more random points. a guy from work lives nr defoe. my girlfriend sister nearly had aaron lennon go up here arse.

before you go there, she was driving broke hard and this flash motor screeched to a halt beside her. it was the strangely eye browed, wavy arms when running, pigeon stepped lennon

trying to rewrite my lost post.

here are just my thoughts. man city are a product of the modern era. the arabs could have bought sunderland, newcastle, pompey, burnley and turned them into an elite club (by that i mean heavily invested in and competing with the big boys in the transfer market).

im not knocking man city as such but the ethic of it. football use to be a simple game. the top flight always had big teams and small teams. but the old days seem to throw up more different winners of things. nowadays (mainly) all trophies go to the big 4.

put simply football has become big business first and a sport 2nd. im not saying anything knew here i acknowledge.

my team is forest. who are, strangly, spending heavy this summer. they wouldnt buy one playing back in jan. but the point is we got promoted from 2nd to 1st division in 70s and won the top flight first season. i cant see that ever happening again. its harder for medium/smaller clubs to keep hold of decent players. a big club will just wave their wad and snap them up. this is part n parcel of the game, theres nothing anyone can do to change it, but i dont like it. the playing field has changed since the Premiership started.

and although the smaller club will get a sizeble wedge for losing their star player they never seem to turn that into moving up the league. and normally fade back to obscurity or mediocrocy once again.

yes it would be great if someone upset he big guns and took a birth in the top 4 players. if thats man city then its good, to break up the monoity of a pretty dull, predictable league. but if it was an everton, fulham or boro then i think their efforts would be more widely appreciated.

good luck to man city. i think their fans are great. i just dont like all these foreign investors. i guess its gonna happen more and more though.

To be fair to City ,they did field reserves and kids mainly against the South African teams. Not sure what you are trying to say about losing to Rangers.

City will do well this season and finish top 4. If ,they gel together quickly as a team , stay injury free and get a new defender (Richard Dunne is dreadful).

No disrespect to Rangers but when you factor the cost of them compared to Man City you may feel City should do better.

I think it will take half a season for the players to gel. If they get a bad start Hughes will be sacked. He's got a tough job managing all those egos and keeping non-playing players happy and motivated.

I would expect 2010/11 to be the season they are capable of mounting a serious assault for top 4 place.

Real Madrid should fair better I think. Theyre in a different league after all.

Could this season see the most Premiership goals scored in its history? Everyones buying strikers but forgetting about defence. Also Pompey are doomed. What is the point of buying a club and stripping it of talent.

The deal to take over Pompey hasn't been completed yet. They are having to sell players to pay loans and debts.

They are doomed though. At least they can play the Saints in a years time.

Everyone's trying to buy defenders but, being mainly a more settled bunch than the prima donna strikers, they are hard to attract at the top level.

I do wish you'd shut up about the money. City are doing nothing different to what any other club given the same opportunity.

The end of the transfer window will see some serious spending from the top four. The only difference will be that this is the banks' money and not some wealthy owner. Manchester United's "no buying" policy lasted slightly longer than their "no buying anyone over 26" rule, but not much. They're already splashing it around.

It was League One, pre money bags Premiership. Sorry but I think the Premiership is the biggest mistake to happen to English football. It took away the simple game and ripped the soul out and replaced it with arrogance, hype and the mass market. It replaced competitiveness, loyalty and an open, level playing field with predictability, own interest and prima donnas. It replaced Andy Gray (the great footballer) with Andy Gray (the tiresome, over excited, annoying twerp commentator).
