The smoking bans have been in California for a while now, and personally I think it's a good thing because I can't stand the shite, but people do have their freedom to kill their lungs, so keep on smoking!

Being a non-smoker,i would welcome a ban on public smoking. However,if they ban smoking, what would they ban next, drinking in public?

I remember entering clubs and bars that were so smoke filled it burned my eyes. I would not mind a smoke free bar to go to. Hate having to shower after going out just because of smokers. And yes, I used to smoke.

well ive never smoked and i dont mind taking the ANTI smoking stand in this post either. fuck em i say, BAN IT,why should i breath in the shite they have sucked in and spat out of their bodies only to fill my lungs ect with more crap than they already have. if i was to go out and drink 10 pints then stand on the bar and piss on everyone would they like it???? . i think not. i dont mind people smoking as long as they do it in a vacuum cupboard and forced to do it instead of as animals are forced to do it for the sake of sceintific progress.

As a smoker, I try to have some manners. Here is a list of things I try to do.

  1. Smoke outdoors as much as possible

  2. If with non-smoking friends and you go to a restauraunt, get non-smoking section unless A. they don't care or B. there is only smoking section available.

  3. carry fabreeze with me if i know Ill be entering my fiances parents house or a non smokers house. also, gum or breathspray, even cologne if i need to.

  4. dont smoke around kids.

  5. in public, if @ a bus stop, step away al least 10 feet away from people.

  6. If @ a club, do not blow smoke into peoples faces, hold ciggaretes in the hand away from the person next to you, blow your smoke upwards instead of into their faces.

  7. @ concerts don't smoke. if you need to... blow smoke upwards, cuff ciggarettes, and dont smoke it all the way.

  8. don't even try to light up in a non smokers car.

  9. show respect to non-smokers. if its really bothering them and they say so, put it out.

  10. don't assume as a smoker, you have the right to kill others cause you are killing yourselves.

I know this still does not satisfy the majority, but I try to respect non smokers as much as possible.

I plan on stopping one day, but I still enjoy smoking. I definetly will do my best to quit before I have kids.

As you're a smoker, I'm amazed you can't spell cigarette, Kamar!

Haven't smoked myself in 10 years, but have no issues with smoking whatsoever. In fact, I find the people who bang on about anti-smoking far more offensive than any smoker could ever be. I fcuking hate whingers. Half my mates still smoke, and I've always had girlfriends who smoke. In fact, if anything I'm slightly wary of anyone who's not smoked during some portion of their lives. It's part of growing up. Life's rich tapestry. It's like people who don't drink. Not to be trusted!

Well said Al, couldn't have put it better....and I smoke!

Fucking bollocks the lot of it, if a person wants a fag a person should be allowed a fucking fag. Someone above said it already....drink will be next.

I thought Prohifuckingbition ended years ago:scratch:

How are we supposed to stand through two Kraftwerk shows without the aid of drink, drugs or a smoke :uhoh:

It'd be very interesting to see the impact this has on pubs and clubs etc. People will stay at home and smoke, rather than give up. Anyway, don't the government make half their refugee handout money from tobacco advertising and cigarette tax?

I used to smoke (gave up 15 months ago) but Karen still does. I know it will do her head in if smoking is banned in the pub etc.....

Pubs I don't have a problem with. Restaurants though :nonono:

And as for NO gigs...

As someone who smokes when drunk, I really couldn't care wheter its banned or not, in entirity or just using the system we have here (no enclosed workplaces, including pubs).

If all the major fag makers dissapeared tommorrow I wouldn't care. I'd just drink more alcohol when already drunk....

well tbh anyone who argues for the right to fill their lungs and arteries with the shite that comes out of ciggies is a halfwit in my opinion. and to dress it up as a infringement on civil liberties only makes tham look more stupid than they already are?. maybe my last comment is a bit harsh,as i too firmly beleive that this may well be the thin end of a nanny state wedge, that said i think the real problem is one of addiction. we ranted about this the other night in the pub and a freind of mine who has always smoked said that it would be hard for someone who has never smoked (myself),to understand what it is like to crave, want or need a ciggarette. hence the opposition ect to this bill. still i say fuck em,BAN IT. lets all shit on a plate and force feed it down a smokers throat and see how they like it.:evil4:

I take exception to the word again Jamesy! ;) I noticed someone else above pointed this out, funnily enough, when we were in America last year, no-one batted an eye-lid when I repeatedly told DoN and co I was away fer a fag. Must be the accent that makes people think again:D

It could be worst... smoking marijuana won't be criminal in Canada quite soon... you'll only have a fine.

Talk about a way to bring more income

I'm the only one in my familly that never smoked.. well, I did try of course, but seriously, it made me sick more than anything else....

They all quitted, my wife was a smoker when we met, she also quitted and I'm happy with it because I seriously have a hard time with smoke itself.

I'm happy it's banned from most placed, and I will be very happy when it will be banned from bars, I'm seriously bored of coming back home and smelling so bad and having my clothes smelling bad because of all the smoke.

Now, it's been banned from public buildings and offices in Canada since a while, but there is quite a new problem.. all smokers gather and the building's entrance, you have to take your breath and hold it for 30 secs if you wish to avoid the damned smell and smoke before coming it, I find it quite annoying.

I also hate it when I walk and follow a smoker and get all the damned smoke in my face, still outdoors, but annoying...

I have all for the liberty, personnally, drugs shouldn't be prohibited, smoking neither, but if you want to do it, do it at HOME and leave the others alone. As for drinking, it's not a problem unless you decide to drive while drunk, it won't affect others unless of course you have a drinking problem...

As far as I know, I don't have any friend that smokes, never had any in fact.. except one that used to smoke while drunk and took it as a habit unfortunatly, but I'm not sure he still does... basically today in Québec, the only people that smoke are young women because it makes them look older.. I rarely see any young man smoking...

In NY, it's illegal indoors anywhere (bars/restaurants, etc.) Thank God, as a non-smoker, I can't stand the stuff, and I agree that people have rights to do whatever they want, do it in yer own homes, I hate smelling of that shite!

Well, in that case, you should be wary of me, then; I've never smoked in my life. People at my school tried to get me into it but I always told them no. It's not part of growing up for everyone.

To get back to the point of the thread, I say a ban on smoking in public places can't come soon enough. Feel free to wreck your own lungs by all means, as long as you do it outside or in your own homes; just don't expect me to wreck mine at the same time. As for the argument I often hear that "Oh, cars put out far more dangerous stuff", at least they're outdoors (as opposed to being in enclosed spaces) and you can go somewhere to get away from them, whereas you can't really do that with cigarette smoke. Also, to those people who say it should be allowed in pubs because they're supposedly "private" places, why do you think they're called public houses?

well what miss disco said really, except to clarify the whole car argument ect. this is a typical smokers argument,IE: someone who is in total denial due to their addiction. auto travel at least for me is a need not a WANT,and if you are that bothered about the enviroment, instead of sucking on a ciggie suck on an exhaust pipe,at least you will be helping the enviroment by helping to filter out some of the pcbs.

No no no, that's where they belong! I say we corral those fat arses and pen them in McDonald's. They won't mind; chicken nuggets and play pens for all.
