Thugs are those that use violance when upset. Of course this assumes that the EU has the same spine as 1938 Europe* as Hitler grabbed the Sudetenland.

are you getting your knickers in a twist? i hardly think that the current situation resembles europe of 1938. yes there is a fine line beween freedom of speech and offending someones culture and religion. those cartoons are offensive to muslims. you've read the threads, so i don't have to tell you why.
yes i think the reaction was over the top. i can see the other side as well.
The cruel way they kill and bleed their holy meat offends people I know...better ban that too.

Only I'm not Islamic, so their code doesn't apply to me. And if we're going to start cross-applying moral codes, refer to Cambo's comment on bleedin' out animals, which doesn't fit my moral code...

well we can only regulate on what happens in our own countries. if its cruely against animals you are concerned about contact the RSPCA, or whatever it is called in in the USA.
you are also not jewish (at least not taht i know) or black. does that enable you to make fun of the holocaust or slavery? if you do i hope you only do it in private. sorry i know you better than that, and know that you wouldn't do that, just making a point here.

Many editorial cartoons offend me and others but we do not riot and burn buildings. Digital Mike does not burn down the BBC radio transmitter whenever they play Blue Monday. George Bush does not go ape whenever the OP ED page has him drawn as an ape. The Catholic Church did not bomb London when over an art exhibit featuring the Virgin mary covered in elephant shit. Guliani fascist??

i guess it all depends on how strongly you believe in something. i know it is something that is hard to fathom in the so jaded west.
there are many things and many people who offend me as well, but then again could i give a stuff about doing something about it? they again if i did i amy join the the red army fraction, (are they still going) or some organistion more radical that greenpeace. it happens people in the west too feel strongly about issues, and some do actually join these organisations.

Keep in mind, however, as afr0puff said, followed by Woodsy, these protests are being orchestrated because of politics.
Condi agrees; she accused Syria and Iran of being behind the turmoil. It ain't religion, it's politics, and a lot of people are being manipulated to achieve those political ends.

just because i don't feel strongly enough about most things to storm the barricades, well atually i have attended the odd demonstration in my time, doesn't mean that i can't accept that some people feel very strongly about some issues.
is there anything you feel strongly enough to mount the barricades?

Oh, hell yes. I was the nut who crashed the last two "Drive Out the Bush Regime" rallies here and heckled the speakers from behind the stage.
What I'm referring to specifically is the routine dismissal of Christian offense; say, Piss Christ, The Book of Daniel, etc. The same people who can understand Muslim offense over these drawings had either nothing to say about those or dismissed any criticism as a "misunderstanding of intent."
The same network that put out The Book of Daniel (didn't see it) and was going to feature Britney Spears as the host of "Cruci-fixin's" wouldn't show the cartoons during a news segment about them.
Now they're worried about offending people?
News networks are chickening out on this because if they show them and offend Islam, they will lose their press permits in Muslim countries.
Does the title of this thread mean that thugs are anti-'freedom of speech'?!
