I heard on CNN this morning that the brains of babies who breastfeed develop faster than those who don't. So yes, you're right. :)

Awesome. Judging bands by the press.

Because the recent NME approved bands I've heard are balls.

Maximo Park Bloc Party Mystery Jets Arctic Monkeys Killers Kaiser Chiefs Razorlight The Strokes

I STRONGLY disagree that Bloc Party are overated, Silent Alarm is sheer genius, and from listening to tracks that didnt even make the album, its pretty clear they arent overated. Thats what I think anyway

Sorry, I just don't get it. Listened to Silen Alarm, and wasn't impressed enough to give it another listen.

Maybe I need to listen to it again?

Also:

Razorlight, Libertines, Babyshambles, Bloc Party, Kasabian, Kaiser Chiefs (these last three just second rate Britpop really), And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.....

:shades: :skeptic:

THINK THE PROBLEM WITH REM IS YES THEY ARE A BIT OVERATED BUT THEY DO HAVE A SOLID COLLECTION OF SOME DAMN GOOD SONGS.

AND AS FOR BLOC PARTY I STILL THINK THEY HAVE SOMETHING, NEVER HERAD A SOME WITH THE LYRIC "YOUVE CRIED ENOUGH THIS LIFETIME MY BELOVED POLAR BEAR" IM NO LOUIE WALSH BUT I WOULD HAVE SIGNED THEM FIRST LISTEN!

I'll cast my vote for Oasis as the most overrated band of all time.

And, to defend Jack's position, I don't consider Pearl Jam overrated--not really a big fan, but its not like they were ever critic's darlings anywhere. Besides, even though I'm not a fan, its impossible to deny PJ's talent. They just have yet to record anything that's really impressed me.

Other overrated bands/performers: the Eagles, Bruce Springsteen, Fiona Apple, Jewell, and Sarah Mclaughlin (the latter three of whom were secretly cloned in a factory in South Korea).

I like all those bands bar the Kaiser Chiefs. One band that most people seem to love but I don't have much time for are the Red Hot Chili Peppers.

Hey now, I like Kasabian. Though I've only heard two songs by them.

I agree with thedude. REM are a bit overrated but still very solid. Lots of good tunes.

SILENT ALARM IS AMAZING IN THE FACT THAT ITS THE ONLY ALBUM I LOVE EVEY TUNE AND ON ITS FIRST LISTEN! AND WHEN I GOT THE SINGLE 2 MORE YEARS (WHICH DOES NOT APPEAR ON THE ALBUM) FOR 1P AT ASDA (THATS WALLMART FOR YOU YANKS!) I THOUGHT LIFE COULD GET NO BETTER THEN I HEARD THE TWO TRACKS AND IT DID GET BETTER! ALL SHOULD GIVE IT ANOTHER GO, REMINDS YOU WHAT SONG WRITING IS ALL ABOUT.

I think if you really sit down and listen to it closely, especially to the lyrics, you'd probably like it

Overrated is when a great fuss is made over a band that's not really all that good. By saying "I don't see what all the fuss is about" I am saying that I consider them overrated. In my opinion they are overrated. And this is of course an opinion poll, as any measure of overratedness must be.

yeah, i could have worded that better, i was agreeing with you in a round about kind of way.

add to my list:

Well, Ten, Vs., and Vitalogy were all huge, huge albums when they came out. Ten sold over 12 million copies in the US. That's pretty huge. Pearl Jam are very successful commercially and reasonably successful critically. Not that I hate them, but they got huge amounts of radio play and video play back here in the mid 1990's, which also turned me off. Yes, they do have have many good critical reviews, though perhaps not quite commensurate with their commercial success. I also recently read a flowing review of them in my Newsweek (among others) a couple of months ago in relation to their new album. I think part of the reason critics do pay them more mind is because they do take strong social stands, which is fine by me.
I prefer the other Seattle bands, to be honest. Most of Pearl Jam's stuff is too slow, though Corduroy is a good tune. Anyway, I never said they suck or anything, just that I don't agree with their huge success.

And yeah, I agree with your other bands listed.

There's no way they changed the music world for good, they just spawned a generation of angsty teenagers wearing smiley hoodies and playing carbon copy grunge; I don't know anyone can find that good. The music press cannonised Cobain the moment he died (they do that with any dead rock star really) but I just saw him for what he was, a not particularly talented junkie who penned the most self-pitying music I've ever heard (and I'm a Morrissey fan, at least he makes it funny).

I just found Nirvana very boring and still do, if they'd continued it's not like they would've ever evolved beyond grunge. Look at Dave Grohl, he's still musically living in 1994 just with a shorter haircut
