The gig is in Carhaix Plouguer.

Some ideas..............................................

It's 6 hrs drive (400km) from Le Havre, so would be tricky to do on the Friday, would need to get ferry to LH Thurs morning and drive down to arrive Thurs evening.

Or is 3 hrs drive (170km) from Saint Malo, so would be easy if we could get a ferry to SM for the Friday morning.

Or Cherbourg is 350km away.

Alternatively it's 1 1/2 hrs drive (90km) from Brest ( has airport ) Nearer towns with airports... Morlaix, Lannion, Saint Brieuc

Portsmouth Saint Malo appears to only have 1 sailing/day leaving at 20:30, arrive 08:15 costs GBP 350 -> 600 for 5 people in a minibus. ( includes 2 cabins, 4 berth ) Return ferry leaves 10:45 arrives Porstmouth 18:30. ( I got one quote for a people carrier, 350 and another for a minibus 600 ).

Aaarrrggghh!!!! I was totally up for this but the logistics are terrifying!! I'm assuming Mr Giles' post about the cricket above was tongue in cheek??

tried to get tickets off the site but my french is faaar to rusty to manage it! i know billet is french for ticket but after that i started to get confused!!

I've got my ticket. Haven't spent much time working out the logistics yet, but it looks as though a flight/Eurostar to Paris may be a decent first port of call. Then a train to Rennes and on from there into Brittany. Miles from anywhere, already doubting that it will be easy to leave on the Friday and get there on the Friday - may need some specialist advice from Andy Rob on how they are tackling it!

Then there's the little issue of finding somewhere to stay in the middle of nowhere! If anyone does fancy a car/bus share it makes good sense, Eurotunnel and then straight down the coast road from Calais, the across into Brittany.....

Don, click on billeterie, than choose the second ticketprovider: www.ticketnet.fr , there you can choose their english version! Bon chance!

btw just saw the (latest?) programming: it gives Deep Purple(!) as headliners?? Hope this is not true, weel, my 61 year old father-in-law who's joining me, will be pleased:D

If you're into campings & tents i believe there is plenty of options around the festivalsite. I fear not to much hotels going on, the ones in the Village might be booked for long already. I am going for a 10 to 11 hour drive followed by collapsing in a tent Can't wait!!

yeh this one looked easy at first glance - just across the channel etc. but it's not quite Paris - anyway this is my best attempt at getting there from London leaving on the Friday am:

Train - Paddington 10:05am -> Exeter 12:08pm ( returning Sat pm £58 ) Flight - Exeter 13:55 -> Brest 15:45 ( returning Sat pm £69 ) That just leaves the small matter of getting to and from Brest to Carhaix Plougher - looks like an hours drive. Options car hire (?), taxi (?), bus/train - sure one of these is a goer. Anyway have ordered ticket - this appeal to anyone?

Sounds like a plan - will investigate further! A lot easier than Eurotunnel and down the coast, that's for sure.

Still sure it cant beat the beaches in Barca ;)

Just looking at the rail option, it's actually pretty reasonable and quick to get the Eurostar to Paris and then a TGV to Rennes, connecting at Rennes for Carhaix. You can get the internal French journeys at the same time as Eurostar now. Looking at £49 to Rennes, arriving there at 1.30pm, and leaving Rennes at 1.05pm on the Saturday, arriving back in Waterloo at 18.56. Rennes is about 200km from Carhaix by the look of it, both served with rail links.

It's actually the same price to stay on the TGV train and head straight for Brest - will check the route to see if thisis easier than changing at Rennes. Certainly a lot closer!

Result. TGV from Paris to Brest stops at Guingamp, we oculd hop off there and connect to Carhaix easily from there. Will probably be as quick as rail/flight from London to Brest via Southampton, and cheaper!

I will be booking this option this evening if others think it is feasible - off to Greece tomorrow so won't be able to book for a few days otherwise!

raileurope.com and sncf.fr both have English options, and eurostar.co.uk now allows you to extend your journey into France and works out costs etc. Getting to Guingamp from Waterloo will cost £99, all high-speed all the way. Connection to Carhaix takes an hour. Booking more than 21 days in advance means we don't have to stay Saturday night to get the best prices!
