New Order live @ Traffic Festival - Torino (IT) 2005.07.02

For those making the trip from the uk to Turin www.ryanair.com do some amazing cheap fares (from under a tenner one way...+ tax etc. I know..) and probably to other places on the Euro Tour.

Cheers Mick, apparently a hotel near the Porta Nuova railway station (centre of Turin, near the Egyptian museum) is a good idea, so that looks like a good candidate to stay.

There will apparently also be regular buses between the city centre and the festival (at Parco Della Pellerina).

Found Reasonable Flights and Hotel and got thumbs up from the wife. Great to have something to look forward to after Glasto.

It's a free festival, so no need for a ticket!

Is that a fact or an assumption, many free festivals have a limit of attendance due to health and safety and issue free tickets to locals etc. This is true in UK especially after the Flat Boy Slim gig which had tragic consequences cause over 300 000 turned up and then the tide came in on Brighton Beech.

Also Radio 1 did free gigs in Sunderland recently but you had to que up and get your FREE ticket the week before.

What I want to know is has any body phoned / emailed Turin tourist information and asked the question. My younger bro is fluent so I will be asking him to do it.

Ive booked the flights and Hotel anyway now but at least if there are tickets being issued I may stand a chance of getting one.

Ive decided to go posh, treat the wife and go 5*. After All I would have spent 6 days in a tent in field in somerset the week before.

Hope we can meet up with some of you guys out there.

Good question, I'll attempt to try and find out for you, but if you find out beforehand, let us know.

I do know that if you're intending to book a hotel, do it NOW, as they're likely to be full when the festival date gets closer...

Apparently, anywhere in the centre of the city is recommended for hotels. There will be a bus service between the city and the festival operating all the time (according to Turin Tourist Centre). They recommended the hotels near the main railway station (Porta Nuova).

I'd like to see Aphex Twin too, but it's more likely he's gonna be one of the headliners of the other days, also because New Order's day is the twinning of Turin and Manchester and I think they're gonna keep it on a strict Manc diet...

There's the full schedule on the site I think it's stupid to not include versions in other languages of the exhaustive info since Turin is pretty near to France and quite some English fans will come too. June 29: Throbbing Gristle, Pan Sonic and Martin Gore (DJ set) at the Limone Foundry in Moncalieri.

June 30: Bright Eyes and The Faint at Spazio 211. Aphex Twin and Chris Cunningham on the Main Stage at the Park.

July 1: Perturbazione and Emiliana Torrini at Spazio 211. Carmen Consoli on the Main Stage. Boosta at Giancarlo in the Murazzi area (from midnight). [Frankly this is the least interesting night of the festival for a New Order fan, and unfortunately I can arrive in Turin only July 1st, missing the more interesting performances of the previous nights. The only good performance should be the DJ set of Boosta from Subsonica, but beware the Murazzi area is the most dangerous of Turin]

July 2: New Order and 808 State on the Main Stage. Graeme Park and Jon Da Silva at The Beach in the Murazzi area (from midnight) [again the Murazzi is dangerous, though sparkling with night life, this area is plagued by gangs just waiting for you, I think I won't bring my girlfriend to such a place... BTW it seems Pickering won't be there] Shaun Ryder and Tony Wilson at Giancarlo in the Murazzi area (from midnight) [read above]

Free shuttle buses should work to connect the various places where the events are going to happen.

You should be soon able to require the free Traffic card which allows you to travel free on the buses of the city and free entries at museums. You will collect it at the Vetrina Torinocultura - Atrium Città in Piazza Solferino.

Yeah, Blue Monday started Madchester, we all remember Crispy Ambulance, their baggy trousers and their rave parties... ;) Spotnick would have done better with Babelfish, not that I would have done better though... Hey people, I just can't believe that next Saturday I'll see New Order in Turin... I really hope I can meet everyone from this forum coming... How can we meet? I don't know much of the area surrounding the park (I just know it's in a suburb with nothing of interest around), nor when I'll arrive, but I wish we'd find a way to meet anyway... Well for now let's say if nobody writes anything else, I'll be at the extreme right corner of the stage one hour before the concert begins, that's like 20.30 I think, so we can go from there to the best place to see New Order, that's in front of Hooky of course. But any other idea will be welcome. I should be in a varied company including my girlfriend, my sister, Manuel and a mate of his, another fortysomething from Rome with his 12 years old son and who knows who else... I still have to choose whether to wear my historic self-made shirt, worn at every New Order gig, or the still classic black bootleg shirt from Manchester 1998... I've been told the Murazzi area has become safer in the recent years, with more night life and less gang criminals, so I might even come to the party with Tony Wilson and Shaun Ryder after the gig...

I see the two threads have been merged. Good. So who's coming this Saturday? The Italian New Order Fan Club (well, Manuel, Marco and me) are waiting for you! I can't think of a place where we can meet outside the park as it's a pretty sad (and unsafe) suburb area surrounding the park. I just think we should find a place in the park, my temporary idea is the right corner of the stage, just look at the stage and go right until the stage ends. That's where we'll be one hour earlier than 808 State beginning. Any other idea will be appreciated. I'll be wearing either a self made New Order shirt or the black unofficial one from Apollo 98 (Hooky said it was much better than the official 'Recycle' one and he was damn right) and my Vikings 2002 badge of course!

I am coming alone from Milan and hope to meet up with everyone. Maybe if we met downtown in Turino where (I assume) the hotels are we could get on transport togther to go to the park. We could meet at some monument or something. Just an idea. Look forward to seeing everyone. Briant

I'definitely leave Zagreb for Turin...I just hope I make it into the EU. I'm a bit paranoid about it. If I make it to Italy, I'll wear my green NOOL T-shirt. How's transport from Trieste or Venice to Turin ? Could I refer to any NOOLer if asked where I'm going to at the Schengen border ? Is it really free ? Because I had to show my ticket when I was going to see the Pixies in Ljubljana last year. Feel free to contact my private mail. take a train from venice if you can. i think the fastest one from trieste is like 8 hourse, but from venice its 5 or so.

Well, I shall be arriving in Turin early Friday afternoon with some fans off the 808 forum...

Our hotel is near the Porta Nuova railway station (and thus close to the town)...

Not sure what are plans are at the moment... If I find out, I'll let you know! :D

*Well, that's because Venice is two hours from Trieste. The total length is seven hours, because it's five hours from Mestre (the biggest station of Venice). To get to Venice you just have to pass through Trieste, that's the entry from Slovenia and Croatia, this is a journey from the far east to the far west of Italy. Sometimes you have to change in Milan, but it's about the same, three hours from Venice to Milan and two from Milan To Turin. You can check the English site of Trenitalia, the national railway company: http://www.trenitalia.it/en/index.html R and IR mean local trains, they can't be booked. IC mean Intercity, it's highly recommended to book them, only a few places are free from booking. ES means Eurostar and they must be booked. You're kinda lucky because there's a train every hour or so. I wasn't aware that you still could have problems entering the EU. The times I've been to Croatia I just showed my ID, even when there was still the united Yugoslavia in the 80s. Frontiers between Italy and Slovenia are now open, they usually let you go without even stopping, and I thought it was like the same between Croatia and Slovenia. If you're worried you should go to a police office asking info or better a travel agency and book the train tickets, return too, and just show them if anyone bother, but I can't see why that has a reason to happen and why they asked you when you went to Slovenia to see the Pixies, maybe they were just curious to know why you were travelling.

I've never had problems with the Italian customs, but with Slovenians I had, and now they're the gateway into the EU) and we're only required to show an ID when entering both Slovenia and Italy, so I was very unpleasantly surprised by the Pixies incident. I'm worried now because this is a ticketless concert !

Just checked the timetables. I'm supposed to be arriving in Turin at 7 am, I'm leaving Zagreb at two in the afternoon, a lovely seventeen hour ride (on the bright side, I won't have to pay for a night in hotel), but let's hope it will be worth it. A friend of mine studies Italian and art history, so she'll supply me with a map of what to see in Turin. If there is any sort of a meetup before the concert, I'd really like to join in.
