@Ruined In A Day: I dont get you people. Concerts are about pushing each other? I go to concerts because I want to enjoy the music, together with the band, the audience and I dont want stupid fights going on in some moshing area. Ive been to some heavy energetic gigs were you could totally freak out and give yourself in to the night - without hurting other people. Geez, you really think that I cant stand being around other people? Ive got no problem with a bit contact or getting sweaty (as I said: I *like* to dance, I just dont have to make bruises whilst doing so). Moshing isnt mine and I cant see why you guys seem to want to convince me thats its either NO concerts with moshing or sitting at home listening to records. Perhaps some of you should attend some other concerts, where people actually act kinda civilized.

May I suggest on behalf of all the other moshers both young, old, male and female that if you want to enjoy the concert without getting "knocked about" stand at the back and buy the concert on DVD when it is available. That way we would all be happy and it saves all this crap you are spouting. We have all been moshing for at least 15 years and do not want to give it up now. Ta very much!

Please consider the following.

I went to see Oasis at the Rose Bowl Southampton last night, I has previously seen them about 10 years ago at knebworth, earls court and Glato.

Last night was my worst gig crowd experiance ever where as New Order in Turin was one of my best.

I witnessed 4 punch ups that included blood being drawn. I had a ciggerete stubbed out in on my and I got covered in liquid that was thrown through the crowd, some of it was beer some was Piss.

A bloke next to me urinated on the floor and I only notiiced when my sock was getting damped.

When I said something he threatend to smash my face in

The closest I got to the stage was about 100m and I was getting pushed and knocked around all the time.

Even Noel told the Chavs who were there just for fight to F off outside.

Through out the gig there was a general atmosphere of agro and violence.

There were 15 arrests and 87 people evicted from the site.

This is a complete contrast to the Turin where my wife and I were practically adopted by some locals despite us not speaking a word of italien.

They even gave us a lift across town to THE hOOKY/rYDER/wILSON dJ SET,

I agee with AJ the moshing was minimal. I was at the frontin Turin and thought it was a generally good vibe.

Is there any chance we can move on from the moshing debate and concentrate on what a fantastic gig this was. And it WAS FREE.

I payed £45 to be scared out of mind with 33,000 other people to see Oasis compared to nothing to See No in front of a relatively tiny crowd.

Hi all!

Torino was without doubt an amazing concert event. When me and me mates entered the ground..(no body search, no ticket needed...just walk in. Great!) we were first worried because just a few hundred people were gathered around the stage. But once 808 hit the stage the ground filled up quickly. We were about in the 20th row from the stage some people moshing about a little bit. I didnt care about it at all, just enjoyed 808 State and the mighty Order! Hooky giving the posing performance of his life.. Sounds crystal clear, Italians singing along, warm weather, cold beer.. How could anyone ask for more? I was extremely happy after the 2 gigs.

After some beers to cool down we went back by public bus (free again of course) to the Murazzi Area where thousands of people were hanging about drinking beers at open air clubs etc. "The Beach" club with Da Silva/G. Park Djing were charging Euro 13 so we decided to head first to Giancarlo Club (for free again of course). Did we regret this? You bet we didnt! AHWilson war dropping some postpunk CDs while we were enjoying a few beers on the patio when A Guy called Geralds "Voodoo Ray" was dropped...from then on no one could stop us from hitting the dance floor. Shaun Ryder was a sorry sight..but he let his "assistant" drop some cool Ryder-related tunes and to some Shaun tried to sing along to them..if he could remember the words!

Out of nowhere Hooky appeared on the balcony where he made his presence very much known by starring at the crowd and hype them up. It didnt take him long to take over DJ duties and dropped among other "Transmission" & "LWTUA" where everyone in the club joined along in singing the chorus and some moshed. Fuckin incredible! Also some Killers tracks proved very popular with the italian massive. Amazing night! We left around 4.30...and heard "Atmosphere" while leaving... Does anyone know if this was the last track Hooky played???

Also was anyone at THE BEACH club? How was that??

Totally amazing weekend...to say the least!

I've finally made a web page with the full report of our magic day in Turin at the New Order concert including a gallery with pictures of Turin, New Order, 808 State, Italian fans, Al Jarvis and Alex Staszko! Carlo and Bobbybob I'm happy you came to the concert though it's a pity we haven't met. Bob if you checked this thread your son could have met Matteo, the 13 years old son of Marco and they could have founded the junior branch of the Vikings! ;)

The site is now available again. The problem is the allowed bandwidth for the transfert of the files making the site to the visitors on the free Geocities account is very low, and so 20 visits were enough to exceed it, being that there's about 1.5 MB of pictures linked on that page. And to think I've reduced their size to about 50 KB for the images and 15 for the thumbnails... Please let me know if the problem comes back often, I'll make a mirror page on another server...

*At the railway station! :) Just as you arrive, at the very centre. About the hotel it's weird, many people in our hotel were there for the festival, if not exactly for New Order... we had to wait to get our room because two techno freaks "slept" (maybe ;) ) until the afternoon after seeing Aphex Twin the night before, anyway on Saturday no room was left available. Very good hotel anyway, and not too expensive. We can recommend it if you ever need to stay in Turin again, just look for Antico Distretto in Corso Valdocco, near Piazza Statuto (a beautiful and quiet area). Only problem is their English knowledge is next to zero... they had to explain to a foreign couple a similar problem of ours and couldn't even tell them the room was not ready yet... they just kept on saying "Room... no... no room... after!" (luckily we were there to help)

, fortunately I have MTV Italia in my room and they did briefly announce it in the news (a snippet after whole news on Live8). Also showed some footage of a woman playing yesterday, the place seemed to be packed,

*Yeah, Carmen Consoli, who headlined the night before New Order, is very popular here (wouldn't be surprised if she got a bigger audience than our band). Classic singer/songwriter with a slight alternative attitude, but boring anyway.

*We arrived just before 21.00 and unfortunately we haven't met (also since you haven't been on the right side, otherwise you'd have noticed "Manchester United" sash of the English fans). Anyway I've seen your nice pictures and I'm happy you had a good time.

*It's traditional at most gigs by New Order and other new wave bands. Don't forget the punk roots. Of course moshing doesn't happen only at new wave gigs, but at every grunge or metal gigs too, you just have to get some fast rhythm and an alternative audience. It's not really a problem for me, I've been used to it from many gigs over the years and mostly enjoy it. Also Matteo, only 13 years old and at his very first gig (what a debut! my first gig was the silly Doctor And The Medics! ) never complained, he just enjoyed the gig and jumped too... Most of all, moshing can be much much more violent that what you got in Turin. I remember the good days of the glorious Italian alternative scene in the mid 90s, with serious pogo, stage diving, crowd surfing, elbows in your face, girls fainting and everything... Turin was very, very moderate, though lively enough. Also it's obvious you haven't been at the New Order comeback in 1998 in Manchester, now that was moshing, I was first row and came out with my chest hurting, after having spent the gig jumping without moving my legs, simply dragged by the movement of the crowd. It was still one of the best experiences in my whole life. If you don't like moshing you can just stay like 10 or 15 rows back, or on the sides, that should be safe enough. I've never seen a gig where all the audience is moshing (the closest thing to that was 50,000 fans jumping together to World In Motion at Reading 98), usually you choose to stay in an area where people are moshing, or you can choose to stay in more quiet areas, where you can still have a good sight and not be touched by anyone. I thought I've seen you with the English mates, though I'm sorry we never talked. I understood you were "from Germany" but not you were on the forum...

*Yeah, I thought that was a bit poor promotion too, but it's becoming increasingly difficult for them to make a balanced set list, with 28 years of history behind them. Also it seems many just knew the classics as almost nobody recognized Sirens... Anyway I'd have tried to keep the new wonderful live version of Run Wild and Hey Now What You Doin at least. I think Italian fans would have loved HNWYD, there's plenty of Smiths fans here and Phil does a great Marr impression in that song...

*I don't agree, I was pleasantly surprised by the good reaction to songs like Bizarre Love Triangle, which when they were released 20 years ago were being dismissed as chart pop trash by the goth snobs. Anyone can post the MP3 of Blue Monday, so maybe someone can recognize that keyboard? I'm sure I have the record from which is taken, but who knows which is the one... It would also be great to get the whole gig! :D

btw, 808 sounded better than i expected, but no spanish heart as i hoped.

Yup, I grabbed that newspaper - will try and scan the relevant pages in, although maybe Mick will be the only person who can understand it! :) I also managed to grab the Turin pass, and also a backstage artists pass, so will try and scan those in as well.

Actually, I got two Turin papers, and one of them had about 3 pages on the festival inside (blurred live picture on the front), but at least about 2 pages of articles on Factory/New Order/Joy Division!

Yup, managed to go backstage before the gig - had a quick chat with the 808 guys... Although the New Order cabins were next door, we didn't see any of the band, just some of the crew sitting outside!

Yup, very small and very hot...

Wasn't initially going to stay, as Wilson was playing some bizarre songs (!), but went back in when he started playing Everything's Gone Green and Voodoo Ray!

Ryder then started playing some Happy Mondays/Black Grape tracks, and started singing over the top of them (surprised he could remember the words! )... And then Hooky, who appeared just as Temptation was playing (he was messing with the EQ and volume levels)!!

Best part was Love Will Tear Us Apart, where he would drop the volume whilst the crowd sang the chorus, and would then bring the song back in to see if we synchronised! :)

Yup, apparently it might thunder tomorrow, although there is a chance that where I live might miss it and stay with 30 degrees sunshine!
