Got me to thinking, though: Has anyone in the band ever commented on Orgy's hideous version? I was just wondering because I remember Morrissey a few years ago saying that some new band's lousy version of "How Soon is Now?" was better than the original 
How Soon Is Now... the Love Spit Love (Charmed) version is really good!

The original version of How Soon is Now does not appeal to me at all. It's not hard for me to imagine a better version. I love almost all of the singles from the Smiths, but How Soon is Now has worn out on me
Thank God someone else is willing to say "How Soon Is Now" is not the Smiths best moment! I've never liked it that much.
(Oddly enough, I enjoy Strangeways, here we come the most. I'm a freak.)

I remember reading an interview with Barney (don't ask me where - can't remember) where he commented that his favourite NO cover was frente's version of Bizarre Love Triangle because it stripped the song down to it's essence - in that same interview he mentioned that he thought the Orgy version was crap. He basically asked what was the point of such a cover that didn't add anything to the original and was merely done in a "style".

So what? I heard SLC 12" version about 2 years ago on the radio, 5:20AM. In Brazil!!!
I got the time - even drunk as I was - because I was sure I would never, ever hear that again on a radio station.

No, no, this was pre-Tatu (as if any of us could imagine a time when we weren't obsessed with Russian teenage lesbians?), can't for the life of me remember the group's name (hot chick singer and a lot of nu-metal-meets-synth sort of music). 
i stopped dating this one girl when she told me she liked Orgy's Blue Monday better than the original.

A lot of the Smiths songs are crap, and some are not. 
I quite fancy "Some Girls Are Bigger Than Others." I like the guitar parts... 
I really quite like The Smiths, but think "How Soon Is Now?" is about their most over-rated moment. Unfortunately, I hate to see what you all say when I tell you that "Blue Monday" is NO's most over-rated one, IMO. It's quite good, but not up to their standard. The BM 95 mixes were a little more interesting to me...
I don't think BM is over-rated - perhaps a bit too familiar to most fans nowadays, but still a groundbreaking and unique piece of work in its own right. Pity about the endless reworkings - I do think the original 83 version is unsurpassed and will always remember the first time I heard it back in 83 thinking I have never heard anything quite like it before, though it's had its fair share of imitators since.
I never said it wasn't groundbreaking. It's just that I was 9 in 1983 and not quite ready for the clubs! It's instrumentation and production and cultural impact make it one of the most important songs of all time. I just think it's kind of repetitive, melodically a little uninteresting. Really good lyrics, though.

I just came back from beating the shit out of an oak desk set that I was making for the Grand Wizard in Industrial Arts class, but my buddy interupted my work and....well, anyway, he won't be bothering me anymore

Houston is a miserable place; it is the city that uses the most air conditioning per capita in the States, but I have to admit that the Houston Texans stadium is the best in the NFL. Nevertheless, wtf is Minute Maid Park; now that is the worst park in the majors; why is there a hill in CF???
