About the origins of the Vikings - haven't there been people wearing viking helmets at gigs for several years? I remember asking about it here after the Stockholm gig in 2001 and Al explained it was because of the soundtrack intro used much in the 80s.

As for some of the replys to DW's original alumni post: reactions. storm. waterglass.

You'd think that after all these years and countless airmiles "stalking" them, the band might actually relent and start playing "The Vikings" for the devoted before the gig. Or is that too close to "selling out"????

Indeed, you're right. ATR had a Viking helmet in Stockholm for that gig, which prompted the rude retort from Hooky, something along the lines of, "Alex, you look more of a c--- than usual in that helmet!"

Think Alex might've even had one at the New Year gigs in 1998?

Before that though, it was just the inflatable skeleton called, um, Ian! :nonono:

"For a Few Dolllars More" now though, eh?

Perhaps Craig could start up a gang called the Cowboys?!

Yeah, "For a Few Dollars More": it's a nice gag, and it shows they haven't lost their sense of humour, but I think maybe "Keep on Truckin'" would be more apt. Or Clive Dunn's "Grandad".

Or maybe even the theme from "Dad's Army" for the punters.

Why do we need two groups anyway? Viking's just fun to use for gig attendance, I don't think it is an identity like a football firm.

Just a suggestion! Does sound a bit naff I suppose... Maybe 'The Spotters' is better; reflecting the spottyness of students and the train spottering tendencies some of us may harbour...

I don't want to divide fans in a negative way... it's just that Vikings seems to be testosterone heavy... would be good to have a second option as a fan identity, although no-one else seems to agree...

Pigeon-hole yourself, give it a name and I wish you luck :wtf::nuts:

Don't think anyone else is bothered! Always viewed the Vikings moniker as ironic humour and not some gang.

Not really 'testosterone heavy'. Just kinda heavy full stop.

To be fair Craigy, it was an awful idea

Get yer arse out to the pre-gig bevvy on the 12th whether you have a ticket or not, I'm sure the popular misconceptions you have of us being testosterone fuelled homophobes will be dispelled..........then again :D

What won't be dispelled is the notion that New Order fans are mostly borderline alcoholics. The only ones who aren't are the fully-fledged dispomaniacs currently well beyond the "borderline" category.

Agreed.

Anyone who has been to a new order gig sober (other than the people who drive us home) wants fookin shot, I mean, they are fucking shite live, the drink and drugs are the only things that make it bearable......and we don't get the words wrong whilst we are singing along.

Sack that cunt Barney

Vikings=football hooligans? After seeing some of their photos on the site, nah! Most of 'em look like they couldn't fight their way out of a paper bag. Or if they could, it'd be a trip to specsavers the following day!

I was only joking Mr.Jarvis. I just thought that those in the photo's hardly fitted the hooligan stereotype. After all, who wants to be labelled a thug.
