I hope you can still find meaning in your life once NO split up; maybe you'll have to self-actualise and find a purpose by trailling NO/JD tribute bands all over the world- I'm sure you'll be consider for an OBE or maybe even a Nobel peace prize seeing as you'll be making such a 'winning' contribution to human existence.

I think the Hooligan tag on here is used a bit tongue in cheek. It just refers to those that follow footy and enjoy (most of) the banter at footy games.

I've (unfortunately) met loads of 'proper' hooligans, not personal friends I might add, and can say to a man they were complete wankers. Every last one a bigot.

Bernard's original glib comment that all New Order fans were either football hooligans or spotty students was a little wide of the mark. Sure, New Order was the band of choice for a lot of youth who also counted loosely football-related disorder amongst their pastimes, there were frequent fights at New Order gigs in the 80s that may have been partly fuelled by football rivalries, and it was probably seeing this unfolding in front of him on a nightly basis that prompted Bernard's quote.

As for the spotty students comment, that is most likely a reference to the cult of the raincoat that had surfaced towards the end of Joy Division. Miserablist students and disaffected teens who sat in their bedsits listening to miserablist music. Like The Smiths. People who would run a mile from football hooligans, yet were drawn together by the power of the music.

At the end of the day, we are all here, and all at gigs (whichever row of seats), because we like the music that New Order make. This music has no fan profile, race, age, sexual orientation. It's called love, and it belongs to us.

I have even been known to sit at the back of the bus on occassion.

You wouldn't be able to get on a bus round my way.

If some bloke hailed a bus on my route but then stood outside, dithering, wondering which seats might be available for him sit in, what view he could possibly get en route and whether this would prove value for money, the bus driver would just drive off.

I think that someone who has an opportunity to go to a New order gig that is quite local to them, and then opts out of it because they can't get THE seats they want is not exactly a dedicated fan. Fook me, if the order played a gig here in Austin, I'd take the worst seat in the house.

I never said you had to go to every gig under the sun, hell, I've only been able to do 4 since 2000, but I've made the effort. Then to start a thread as inane as this one, well, even YOU should be able to see why some of us have a hard time with your lack of fortitude.

Going to gigs doesn't make you a dedicated fan.

I have nearly everything NO / JD and the side projects have ever released- that's what makes a fan IMHO.

Once again, i find distraction from marking books to see that Craigy has been at it again 'tooth & nail' with 'the boys'. Does this guy never 'tire' or 'tyre' of antagonism. Maybe our Alumni (digital waters) can help decide the spelling :abovelol: By the way during the summer i went to 2 seperate Univ. alumni gatherings, so Craigy - think you've been out-alumnied :lol:
