Oh and they will be available worldwide, so don't feel like you have to live in old Blighty to be able to get them.

Yes, we intend to be able to send them to any country, although obviously postage & packaging will vary, but we aim to do that at pretty much cost rather than taking the piss. We will try and get an accurate idea of the delivery costs to each country, which we will include when we post info on the UK prices.

The 12x12 singles were nothing to do with Saville Associates, as Warner just gave away the artwork, without any permission etc, and fucked a lot of people off. I have no idea who chose the colours or who suggested using a fucking Coldplay font on the 12's either.

That sheds alot of light on the 12x12" campaign.

The sleeve card really was crap quality as Col points out, you only had to look at it and marks would appear The imprint of the record appeared on the card really quickly as well.. normally the mark of a much older record. I've locked all 12 of mine away and hardly look at them, for fear of damaging the sleeves further

Didn't Hooky initiate the 12x12" project? Warners released them in partnership with New State Recordings who were also doing Hooky's 3xCD Hacienda compilation so that's probably not a coincidence.

Bill, was there ever a proper sleeve for "Turn" commissioned?

To be honest i (and Saville associates) were pretty much the last to find out about the 12's, and we didn't get paid a penny for the artwork etc (although i did request a couple of sets, which they sent us). In principle i had no problem at all with it being done (i kind of just wanted to see the artwork on a 12" format), but like you guys i thought the quality of the sleeves, was pony, and they just looked like bootlegs. I guess when it comes to record companies they are only bothered about making money, and clearly using good quality materials for the production were a non-starter.

It just goes to show what a sad loss Factory, and their attention to detail, was for us all, because it will never happen like that again.

Who's got a copy of Karl Denver's Womoweh 89? No offence to the man but it was a woeful rehash of a bloody awful song, no doubt conceived and recorded after a number of heavy lunches around the time that he collaborated with the Mondays (and what was that all about, anyway?).

The sleeve, however, is absolutely beautiful; printed on the best card with inlay sleeve, nicely typeset, and FAC number lovingly applied. I bought one for the cover alone and will treasure it forever.

I know what you are saying, i have bought albums based purely on the artwork etc before now, in fact, that was how i discovered the band Boards Of Canada. Unfortunately though i think that kind of thing will become history before too long, because the push seems to be for digital downloads only, which are about as souless as it gets. Don't get me wrong, i understand the convenience etc, but it just doesn't feel like you have bought an album etc, the same way going into a record shop and having it in your hand does. Also a crappy low res jpeg of an album cover, really doesn't cut it. I lsten to mp3's all the time at work etc, but i will always buy the album as a hard copy, and rip it as mp3. Having it all scaled down to CD size from 12" was bad enough, but to turn music into nothing but a string of data, seems pretty tragic to me.

100% agreed. My thoughts too exactly.

I like the fact that albums and 12" singles are works of art as opposed to horrible reduced CD jewel box rubbishness. At least make an effort if CD is the only format it's coming out on. And to have this further relegated to just digital downloads with electronic artwork isn't the real deal to me....

I don't know, I kinda like all the NO album covers, save one....Get Ready....that one I still can't appreciate. Looked as if Saville was in his natural late state, and popped that in because the album was going to be coverless. That album isn't art, let alone minimalism (unless of course we are talking about a minimal amount of effort involved). But save that, I'm happy with my NO sleeves.

But I agree, no white sleeve for this upcoming album please!

i have decided to vent my frustrations on this issue under the "New Order Cover art debate..." topic. It's a bit of a rant, but hopefully people will get where i'm coming from!

yeah sorry about that mate, your post got kind of hijacked there! I started another post regarding the digression. Still, i kind of like the way these posts evolve.

The MeshLeaf was the one thing I liked about the Singles cover; putting it on the two CDs was a nice touch. I think the typeface is awful, and seeing a bit of Hooky's hand through the tray is shoddy too. They should have put something in that part of the inlay sleeve, like the tracklisting a la Electronic's Twisted Tenderness.

Pretty amazing that the component parts are by Paul Barnes, Donald Christie and Peter Saville, considering they're all legends.

I agree with By 'Eck! My Neck! about using white on album covers. It usually looks bland and cheap-looking. (One exception is Substance - I guess a good font goes a long way.)
