So people on this forum have heard this album , how can I possibly get a copy to listen, waiting for a whole month is too much, can anyone help me out with this, I still will buy the album when it come , PLEASE

The more I listen, the more it reminds me of his past 90s songs. I would think the record will remind people of Twisted Tenderness and of Sumner's stuff from Technique on. Some people will like the nostalgia from the synth/keyboard melodies and some of the guitar melodies. Barney will track down who did it from the watermark in the music and have Phil break your fingers, whoever you are.

I've now listened to it a few times and I'm sad to say that I find it utterly bland and forgettable. The melodies are tired, the arrangements safe and Barney's lyrics are worse than awful. Also, when exactly did Barney become unable to 'pwonouce his aws pwopewly'? He's starting to sound like Elmer Fudd!

Honestly, if it was just some unknown band I'd have binned it after one listen.

I think people are right because all the people who have reviewed this album just describe the songs and how they are, no one said that it is good or anything, I hope that it is not true because I did not wait 4 YEARS for this.After hearing DYNAMO I was dissapointed, Sink or Swim I really liked. I still haven't heard the full album only those 2 tracks.

Aw, shit! That's what my husband's been saying about the "r's" on Twisted Tenderness! I told him he was just being mean & Barney wasn't really saying "sad wefwain," even though he pretty much was. So there's another similarity to TT! Lyrically, it's not too far off, either, if you overlook the lack of "hey's." I'm not going to let it get me down- TT has grown on me considerably over the years & I play it quite a lot. Always loved the title track, in spite (or maybe because) of the Cher-life-after-love-voice effect. If you don't like it, just tell a little lie.... Signed, The Bad News Girl:p

Well, hang on for now, not exactly the same. The production is quite different. Never really found Twisted Tenderness to be very listenable personally.

After listening a few times to BL they do seem more New Order like, and the keyboard melodies do sink in the end. The production does seem rather bland at first listen, but they are definitely Sumner at heart. Sometimes some very mediocre guitar takes the place of what would be Hooky bass and you kind of have to ignore it. Sorry to be mean, but I'm not sure that Jake Evans really adds much of interest to this project. The last song, Evans "Head Into Tommorrow" is quite different from the rest, and some may like it, not sure if I would say it sounds original thou.

I decided that the acoustic riff in "Head Into Tomorrow" suspiciously sounds like "Over The Hills And Far Away" by Led Zeppelin.

Also I reckon Sink or Swim is the most memorable of the tracks. It's the only one that I can really remember after listening to the album a few times now. It's a very solid album but some of the songs are just really not my cup of tea. Agree with what 0_o says about Jake Evans, to me he just sounds like Jimi Goodwin from Doves.

mmm Not sure what to think of this. I love Technique so thats good. I also really like the 1st half of WFTSC. Twisted Tenderness is OK and 2nd half of Republic is the worst music ever by NO (but still ok in relation to other bands). So its sounds the album will be a mixed bag.

I'm just taking all these reviews with a pinch of salt until I actually have the proper album in my hands.

But it's interesting to see all these different opinions, of allegedly the same album (or the same tracks).

PS- About the 'R' pronunciation---I kind of understand what people on here mean on Twisted Tenderness. In the title track of that album, there's that line 'we could always be friends'. Then again, I just thought the way he pronounced it was kinda cute.

The album, at least after a couple listens, really loses steam in the second half. Twist Of Fate is pretty fucking good though, and I quite enjoy Runaway and Running Out Of Luck, even with their adult contempo leanings.

Of course, I haven't got hold of anything except "Sink or Swim" & "Dynamo." I think Barney's taking some risks vocally on "Dynamo," hitting some high notes unlike anything he's done in a long time, and I like that. Might be interesting live...

I'm getting curious now, such divers reactions (and I happen to really like TT :) )

The Lyrics were regular Barney stuff, Alot like new order stuff, one thing that I noticed about this cd was that it has very uplifting lyrics and about enjoying life, that is what I thought about the album, very positive stuff with great melodies.

The line about some woman being as "straight as an arrow through a tree that is hollow" is a high watermark.

I haven't heard it yet, but I'm looking forward to it with excitement and trepidation. I love most of Bernard's 90s work, but judging from Sink And Swim and some of others comments it's not even that good. Once I hear it I'll be able to see where he set the bar. I'm still not sure why he got Jake Evans in the band, aside from helping with singing/lyrics. I hope it turns up in the local CD exchange so I don't have to order it online.

Even "Dynamo"?

Dynamo is probably the weakest song on the album in my opinion but it is still pretty good, again it is my opinion.

any hint where to look. didn't even find a promo on ebay.

I think people will mostly like tracks 1 thru 6, 7 thru 10 seems to be a lower level. The second track is the best rocker, most will like that. Track 4, which seems to be more of a Jake Evans heavy track will get different opinions, especially with a cheesy high voice saying "higher" is the chorus... doesn't work well IMO on what is a decent track otherwise. 5 and 6 are slower Barney songs and will be liked I think.

7, 8, 9 are more of a "throw a bunch of weaker ideas together" into some more rock/dance tracks. Not rock dance by 2009 standards, maybe 80s standards. 8 has Bernard saying "so hit the road jack"

Personally I find a lot of the guitar to be rather mediocre and too mainstream rock, easy to ignore. 21st century guitar rock? Maybe Jake and Phil are good at Guitar Hero?
