The gig

Arrived at the Ritz with almost enough time, sent one of the boys to put our coats in, and the other two headed to the bar, I must have been just a minute away from getting my beer when there was a cheer from the front and Bernard's voice... abandoned beer, handbag and the boys and weaved shoved and employed the force of continual momentum and determinedness and got my self right at the front with a handy rail to lean on, and only about half missed the first verse. Perfect! Bernard was in clear vision just a bit to my right and Phil on the left, could just about see Steve, though mostly his head was obscured by a cymbal, Couldn't see any of the Nool lot I assumed that they were in the traditional 'Hooky spot'

Bernard was on great form, though his concentration face was not as endearing as when he was smiling and bantering with the crowd and later when he seemed to enjoy the old stuff more than the BL stuff, maybe it's just that it's easier for him with the stuff he's most familiar with.

Had a new found respect and admiration for Phil, having never gotten a clear view of him playing before, He was definitely enjoying himself, got to admit I am sucker for a bit of guitar wankery, so watching those fingers work the 12 string guitar did put a smile on my face, actually I think was smiling all the way through, apart from my whooping moments, I think I even out whooped Bernard

I'm still deaf in my right ear from the 'girl with the really annoying screechy high voice' that Bernard commented on she was stood right next to me, she was so trashed that she soon just draped herself on the barrier while her head lolled about and shut up thankfully, sorry if your reading this luv, but you were a fucking nightmare

I enjoyed all the BL stuff,and bounced about accordingly

Dunno if it was cos my ears were still recovering from the screecher or if there were sound issues but I was disappointed with PI, it all just kinda merged into itself into noise, anyone else notice that?

Tighten up was the highlight for me, I never thought I'd ever get to see Bernard sing any Electronic songs Live, I think about a years worth of endorphins flooded in to my brain at that point, I can only describe it as pure joy Bernard sounded spot on I don't have the words, needless to say I fucking loved it.

Strangest moment was seeing some people from GC and RW (basically the rock/metal/alternative crowd.) Mark gave me a fantastic double take as if to say what the fuck are you doing here hahahaha Great to see them going mental at the JD stuff!

Edit to add Forgot to mention that it was when I shouted 'Get your asses back out here' that they came back for the Encore, coincidence I'm sure, but a perfectly timed classic moment

Great turn out as already mentioned, which saves me struggling to recall everyone's names. My not drinking much before the gig plan was even shorter lived than Carlos's cameo appearance

Everyone was on great form, good to see the two new dads(Monty and Al) haven't been overly domesticated, though perhaps I could have done without hearing the poop/bath tale

Loads of compliments from Rosie and Julie, I'm sure the girls must have had a bet on that they could make me blush If so it was an admirable effort but I'm just not the blushing type.

Foolishly I thought Biginoil's severe arm with it's soggy end would be the most bazaar sight in the pub, as banshee was sans mask, and it was far too early doors for the rolly-pollys to start, but low and behold faux Bavarians in lederhosen complete with handy wipe towels attached to their crotches out did the noolers in the 'you don't see that every day' stakes Big thumbs up for them.

Other highlights included pint glasses with built in grips, Love it! Politics and cigarettes with the faux Bavarian, Giving Jemma a stern no raspberries lecture, Being mistakenly told off by Leggy for not having him on FB, I checked this morning and I do Hearing interesting interpretations about which of my boys I was with, who was an ex, and their rivalry for my affections None of the above btw, they are just friends (that I may or may not have fucked at some point natch )

Typing with a hangover is hard work, I'll try and get round to a write up of the actual gig and afterwards at some point. x

I remember you as I flew past one way then the other. A great night from drinking in the toilet then the Rain. Nice to see the usual crew (you know who you are) and to meet one or two for the first time. Geri, what a lovely lady. Nice to see Andrew Sayer and Rosie and Julie, Biggy and Mr Hibster once again. Nobby's got more energy than the Duracell rabbit.

I wasn't going to bother with the PSB at the MEN but I'm thinking about it...

Bad Lieutenant appeared to enter the stage late and I therefore expected a thread-bare set. There was no supporting act and instead there was a D.J. set which was beginning to make my ears bleed.Finally, they entered the stage and begun with about five or six Bad Lieutenant numbers which were unfamiliar with the exception of Sink or Swim. The third or even fourth number demonstrated a distinct sound that clearly differed from New Order. The song differed as the base-line had a bounce that would not have been out of place in a 1970s porn film, as Tom Chapman swayed from side to side. Jake also demonstrated a different sound as he sung lead vocals on the fith number. Bad Lieutenant sound more like a traditional 'rock band'. Jakes guitar is often expert and therefore differs from New Order's punk ethic. The gig was immediately lifted when Bernard annouced "did anyone request Crystal"? The crowd perhaps unfairly begun to chant 'New Order' and Temptation followed, further whipping the crowd into a frenzy. Bad Lieutenant performed an exerlent version of 'Out of Control' by the Chemical Brother which was totally unexpected as its electronic sound contrasted with the rest of the set and Steven Morris was temporary made redundent. The encore begun with an acoustic version of BLT which was not to my taste. However, the night was ended with Transmission and LWTUA which blew the roof off the intimate venue. At times the gig felt like New Order by the back-door which is sad. It was good to hear such classics as Temptation live again, however my favourite track was 'Out of Control'.

'Poisonous Intent' was my favourite Bad Lieutenant track of the night and had an uplifting base-line.

Bad Lieutenant were tight as fuck tonight and played a stormer of a gig that had ironed out any minor rough spots from the first two shows. The only thing wrong was nobody in the crowd knew the Bad Lieutenant songs and most punters in attendance stood muted and motionless throughout the rousing opening barrage of genuine modern day Sumner classics such as This is Home and Dynamo. You'd have to wonder why would people buy a concert ticket for a new band but not spend a tenner on the album so they might enjoy the night more.

well what a week 3 bad loo gigs on the hoof,, this is the only hat trick coming out of pompey this season.

its virtually 28 years to the day that i first saw new order , here at the ritz the only thing that aint changed is the ritz

a few joy division fans from days back and loads of younger fans,, made it to the front again ,, "the hooky spot" was goining to tell norbert no dancing tonight when he moved to his own mosh pit,,,sound as ever was ace the bad loo songs contine to grow,, though it was a predictable set with sirens again ommited( on set list but crossed out) i have never heard 12 songs fly by so fast, thought the new stuff was well recieved, some balls to play 7 songs straight from a new album only released a week before,, no one shouting for bassking which is fair enough, new order songs sound well good and linking outofcontrol into temptation is well groovy, mrs order didt answer the phone during lwtua,hey ho, and Transmision,, that is the best ive heard it played since Joy division knocked me back in me seat all those years ago, fucking ace, so moved i even bought the t shirt.
