For me it boils down to Republic defining the end of an era and also the end of NO. Witnessing the last show before the break up at Reading in 1993 was a sad end to a great band. When they reformed in 1998 there was hope but as soon as Gillian left it was downhill. I do like GR and Sirens and there are some wonderful songs to be found but the real New Order died in 1993. That is why I prefer Republic. Yes it has it's faults but it is the last great slab of NO.

Reading 93, was a great show, would have been fantastic to have seen it.

It was very special. Even though you could tell they weren't getting on they were very tight because they had been on tour and the atmosphere was special. I remember moshing right under their noses. Memories.

I think the 'not speaking to each other' line is overused. Yes certainly towards the end of the tour leading up to Reading, but during the writing and recording the band were at least friendly and working towards the release. With the pressures of Factory and the problems at the Hacienda, tensions were mounting however. Regret, World, Ruined, Spooky, Young Offender, Special and Avalanche are without doubt better than anything on Sirens.

To write either album off as absolutely shocking in terms of every single minute of content is mad. There's some fantastic stuff on each. Some fans just love to fucking whine.
To be fair, they are both crap! 
I'm going with WFTSC. Although some of the lyrics were clunky, they reflected a lot of things that were happening in my life. Sometimes an album just hits you in the right way at the right time. Just because of that, it's a classic in my mind. Besides, if you look at what else was happening in music in 2005, I think WFTSC was the best album NO could've made at the time.

So if the released dates/lineups were reversed, your opinions of the albums would be as well?

Well, he said so in a 1996 interview when promoting Raise the Pressure. Damn Prozak and all that shit that kills good music...
Things like this make me choose Republic, because of novelty value and a sense of "what the fuck"
