I have to say, Brotherhood has gone up in my estimations recently, not actually that many I skip anymore, whereas Lowlife & PCL aren't quite the masterpieces I once thought... A similar thing has happened to Republic, which I was bitterly disappointed with when it came out... There's hope for Get Ready & Sirens yet...

I actually listened to Brotherhood all the way through this week for this first time in years.
With better/more polished production it wouldn't have been so bad really... still won't rate it above Low-Life or PCL though. 
I prefer Sirens to Get Ready, although on it's first few listens I certainly didn't, it was a major disappointment I recall.

Movement would be above Low-Life if it weren't for Martin Hannett's shoddy production... The songs on that LP sound ace live.
Brotherhood to me sounds largely like a bunch of half arsed demo recordings, and is poorly produced to boot. I've just never really taken to that album at all, I only really like Bizarre Love Triangle, All Day Long and Broken Promise. :( As for Movement, I actually really like the album, it's a bit doom and gloom a lot of the time but is one of New Order's more creative moments.
Actually I've just noticed that there is a quite clear electronic/dance over more guitar based divide in my selections there. Basically I must love New Order's dance orientated material a lot more than their guitar based stuff.
Wow, people got no love for Brotherhood. As It Is When It Was is one of my favorite NO songs. Nobody commented on Way of Life, a pretty fantastic bass song. For me there are only two duds in this album, quite possibly the last two songs.
Get Ready's got Crystal, WFTSC's got nothing. They're in the bottom two, for sure. Republic... well, It's got some good songs but as a New Order album it fails. PC&L, Brotherhood, Low-Life and Technique are so different and great in their own ways, I can't rank them among each other. Movement... it's not really New Order, is it?

WFTSC has Waiting For the Siren's Call, which is one of their best songs, it also had Guilt Is a Useless Emotion, which while not every NOOLer's favorite was a club and college radio hit in the US, as was Jetstream, and it has Turn, gorgeous song, and Whos Joe and Morning, Night, and Day, which are great tracks.
Crystal was mighty though, got a whole new generation into New Order. If they had toured the US properly for GR they would have made a lot of money. GR as an album though...it has Crystal, 60 MPH, Someone Like You, Vicious Streak, and Primitive Notion...the rest is crap.

The second one, for example, has a kind of "disco" drum riff, so sounds like a proto-classic New Order. To me, New Order was born "virtually" before "Movement", just pay attention on tracks like "As You Said", or "Isolation", because they sound pre-synthpop a lot.

Exactly! For this reason I think the first drafts of the classic New Order sound were made just before ... As Bernard Sumner told the press when "Total" was released people sometimes forget that the same guys who wrote "Blue Monday" also did "She's Lost Control". So I think it's hard to determine exactly where one ends and another one begins... musically, of course.

On that note, I was listening to 1981-82 Peel Sessions last night and was struck by how in some of the tracks you could have substituted Ian's voice for Bernard's and they would have sounded like new Joy Division tracks. The Peel sessions really draw that feel out of the instrumentation more than Movement does, imo, even with Hannett's production.
Seems like the overwhelming vote - almost 60% - unanimously go for Technique.
