Hooky Vs. New Order Now: Let's set things straight.

hooky isnt a bad singer but i would hope he isnt knowingly impersonating ian because it wouldnt be right. same as it wouldnt be right if chapman copied hooky.

Exactly. I like that Barney sings them in his own distinctive style..he sounds ood on Transmission and LWTUA for sure...and I really like when they revamped Isolation to sound like a New Order song.

Then we hear comments from Hooky saying that "it's a real shame," given their legacy and history, while in other moments he has made comments that make him sound entirely relieved to be away from any of the ex-bandmates and is looking to the future (back then, to Freebass, etc).

So, really, all of this constant, CONSTANT hot/cold/hot/cold/hot/cold leads me to believe that it all really did boil down to one specific event or incident... something which I recall Bernard hinting at in one of the many interviews at one point but never elaborating upon.

So, can we pinpoint what it might be? In one vein we hear solemn regret and well-wishes from Hooky towards Bernard and co., even to Bad Lieutenant, and then the next it's all about lawyers and not being invited to play as New Order. Yet, he goes out and plays Joy Division material.

So, coming from the most rational and well-read perspective that I can, I'm really trying to determine what all this initially stemmed from. What one thing happened for all of this hypocrisy to take place? Hooky was happy to help out in getting the Lost Sirens' released, and that new compilation with Hellbent on it, AND the (albeit shitty) Rhino remasters. So there are good spirits there. There have been good spirits everywhere, in fact, until a week or so later the dissing resumes (i.e. towards Gillian), and the shit hits the fan once again. Then weeks later, based upon precedent, things seem far more mature and level-headed again, and Hooky is once more praising Bernard and co. in a roundabout way, although sometimes even directly.

So having said all that (and please read it all before commenting; I rarely make long posts on here, and I feel this is all very relevant given the fact that they'll all be here in the next two months)... what do you think it all boiled down to? What's with the total hostility - back to being civil - back to hostile attitude?

Please let me reiterate that I adore all members of the band and am in no position nor want to diss any particular member. This is all out of sheer curiosity because of the vast amounts of different testimonies I've read from all parties involved. It's really quite fascinating actually; if you piece it all together, none of it all really makes sense. That's why I feel like it all comes down to some old, fleeting incident that left a bad taste, and instead of addressing it directly it's all become this big massive pile of redundant shit that means nothing, and nothing but well wishes are what truly lie beneath the surface of it all. Either that, or it's one hell of a publicity stunt.

I think eventually they'll get over it. NO mark 3 is going to tour for a bit, maybe do some recording and eventually Hooky will return.

In regards to what someone said about Hooky being the frontman, I think it would be ideal if he sang JD songs in the event that he did reunite with NO.

That would be a fantastic compromise.

He pulls off Day of the Lords fucking ace.

Wonder why that is? Him sounding less confident? I think he does a really awesome version of Ceremony too - not to say I'd prefer him singing it over Bernard if they ever did get back together.

But I stand by my point that eventually Hooky will play with New Order again. It won't be tomorrow, or probably not even next year, but it will happen.

My understanding is that at least intially Hooky embraced sobriety then decided he couldn't stay sober as a member of New Order, so he left. The other issues developed after that.

Your "understanding" is entirely incorrect.

My hope is that once the Still tour is done, The Light will concentrate on writing new stuff and tour with that, then we can all stop this JD is dead stuff and judge them on their own music. no doubt some will like, some will hate, but at least it'll be something new.
