It would be cool if the Substance box included the Procession 7", but I'm not bothered if I doesn't - I have seven of the nine colors.

I'm wondering if Substance will stay true to the original and only feature the remixes up to True Faith, rolling TBTHOG and everything after into the Technique box? Also wonder if we'll get two 12"s each for Fine Time, Round & Round, and World In Motion?

I'm hoping we get 2 x 12"s for the ones you mentioned. Also hoping for 'Blue Monday 1988'.

But these seem such a way off at the moment.

Would love some news on the PC&L box...

Is a Substance box confirmed, or just rumoured? We did get a deluxe vinyl "Singles" re-issue not that long ago, so I'm not sure how well a Substance box would do, but I guess that was all 7" versions. And it would depend on all the extras.

Did anyone screengrab or save the pics/mock-ups of the P,C&L box? I missed them at the time. TIA!

It hasn’t been confirmed. I think we’re all kind of hoping for it.

Again, it’s a bit of an oddity really, isn’t it? In theory, as it’s a compilation, you wouldn’t expect it to get the ‘definitive’ treatment. However, ‘Substance’ is so important in the New Order canon of works, it really transcends purely ‘compilation’ status.

It would possibly be helpful to the programme to have it released too. If it isn’t, they’d have to tag the 4 x 12”s (2 x True Faith, TBTHOG and Blue Monday 1988) alongside the 2 x Brotherhood era 12”s or 7 x Technique era 12”s (Fine Time x 2, R&R x2, Run, WIM x2).

I suppose the other point though is what bonus stuff would a ‘Substance’ definitive edition include? The reissues seem to be steering away from including edits / remixes etc., so what bonus CD stuff could you include that wouldn’t be best included on the Brotherhood / Technique LP sets? I’m guessing that, if they did release it, the LP would be somewhat expanded but they’d have to add a reasonable amount of bonus stuff to make it worth a purchase

The ‘Salvation’ stuff is the obvious thing that springs to mind but what else?

The DVDs for the set should be easy to compile with lots of great gigs around the time (some of which were hopefully filmed).

My guess is that they will just continue with the 12" re-issues throughout the Substance era and leave it at that

That would leave the Procession/EGG 7" as the only original vinyl single tracks un-reissued. The 1987 versions of Temptation and Confusion are not exactly essential, and the only other differences were a few shortened edits

It's been a while since we heard anything about this.

Does anyone have any details at all? Even if it's just 'the project is still going ahead' type news, that'd be ok.

Yeah getting a bit annoying that it’s all gone quiet on this. No updates or anything. Can someone ask Steve on Twitter or something what’s happening with this box set?

It was mentioned in the last Mojo, no date though but a positive sign

There is a holding page on UK Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/Power-Corruption-Lies-Boc-DVD/dp/B07YGM16Y7

and a page on Amazon Ital that lists the release date as 24th Jan

https://www.amazon.it/Power-Corruption-Lies-Boc-Dvd/dp/B07YGM16Y7

I guess to see it that soon is unlikely - given that they did a series of promo shorts for the Movement box you'd expect the same again. Maybe being recorded in Miami while they are all together?

Not sure if this is the same issue of Mojo, but this was posted on the joydiv.org forums by another user:

Adman wrote: Reading the latest copy of Mojo magazine in W.H.Smiths this morning...

...yet another mag with a Joy Division cover and article.

Also has a JD inspired cover mount CD...

...which does at least have an ACR track and one by Wire.

In the article it confirms there will be a Closer 40th Anniversary release this year - but gives no details.

Confirms Definitive PCL box for March and second Steve Morris book for November.

So, March, Maybe?

March isn’t that far away really so you’d think there’d have been an official announcement by now. Movement box was officially announced over 3 months before release.

As painful as it is to say, I think 1 definitive box per year is actually more realistic. Feels a bit rushed to have 2 per year though I’ll be more than happy to be proved wrong and see a Low Life one at the end of this year after a P,C & L one in the early part of the year, hopefully.

I thought that too. I'm guessing that, at the time of writing, it was possibly correct, but things have slipped again since (hopefully not by much).

It's definitely not happening in March, I may as well tell you. There are some aspects of it being reworked and the delay is open ended at the moment so I've no idea when it'll get scheduled just now. I'm sure it'll happen, just maybe later in the year.

Ah, OK, Johnny.

Although it’s a bit disappointing that it isn’t happening as soon as March, it’s nice to know that it’s still in the pipeline.

Many thanks for the update.

Thanks Johnny, hopefully we'll see this before next years Low-Life box set.... 👍

Just wondered if this is still happening (fingers crossed) and, if so, when we might get an announcement.

I'm sure there's no doubt it's happening, surely? I wouldn't be surprised if COVID-19 is delaying all sorts of projects so there might be further slippage though

yeah [ohwell] ... these sets require many matters to be resolved, the least of which are mastering or production related.

September is the current target for PCL, but not set in concrete.

Be thankful for each set that materialises as our response/demand is a major factor.

Just thought I'd mention that, during the live chat with Hooky and Jack onon the latter's Instagram account last Wednesday (22/04/20), Hooky had this to say:

Q: What’s the latest on the PC&L boxset?’

A “The problems have been smoothed over and I am talking to the record company tomorrow (23/04/20), actually, to finalise the set list and get it going. So, yeah, it’s on the way. I’ve seen the pictures which are very good. Dave Simpson is doing the foreword and the history, which I’m delighted about. I did that interview the day before yesterday, on the ‘phone to him for an hour and a half. So it’s going to be quite detailed. Dave is very good and he is very fair between us all. Which is what is the important thing. Yeah, it's well on the way actually. I mean the records will be coming out pretty much, probably, I would’ve thought it’ll be June. They will set the date and it will come out. It’s like the auction (of Hook’s New Order memorabilia); those things are easy to do. It’s just all the stuff that we do as people, you know, that we won’t be able to do, which is the bad bit."

I personally think June seems a little hopeful (there's usually at least three months lead-in times on things like this, even under non-lockdown circumstances). Hope I'm wrong though. I could do with some cheering up, and a load of bonus audio / video from one of the greatest LPs ever recorded would certainly do that. Even if it's not quite ready by June, it's still pretty positive stuff. [:)]

I will say that the chat with Hooky and Jack was very enjoyable and can recommend everyone to attend the next one (next Tuesday, I think).

I know Jack occasionally visits these boards so, if he's reading this, many thanks to him and his dad. I really look forward to the next one. A fun hour amongst two great bass players.

He probably meant an announcement in June.

It definitely won't be out by then, but we are making progress.

According to Mojo it was slated for March. But apparently there's some kind of virus going round.

Thanks JJ. He definitely said 'the records', but it was either an error or wishful thinking.

It did seem highly unlikely, but it was good to hear that there was progress. And also good to have you confirm this.

You can't drink it! That'd be crazy! Trump said to inject it.

So, as I type this, I'm connected up to a drip, piping in 2 x litres of Toilet Duck (TM). Lemon Fresh! Mmm!

Unless he meant the Blue Monday & Confusion 12"s as "the records". We know that they were pressed late last year and are sat in warehouses

It's certainly possible. I would think, though, that they'd want to release them all at the same time, as promotion for the box set.

But I'd happily be proved wrong. Let's get them out there.

I'm just hoping that the 'rethink' of box set contents isn't too drastic. If contents have, indeed, changed, hopefully this is to our benefit, i.e. even more content. I just hope things haven't been removed.

Still quiet for news about this boxed set. Find myself craving it now, to liven up my working from home. Saw a rumour it was being manufactured. Any news of a release date yet?

Probably wishful thinking on my part, but wondered if, now that the Closer + 12”s have been released, that an announcement may be imminent.
