I tagged Mark Reeder about when we'll hear his Be a Rebel remix in a Tweet regarding Stephen and Bernards. In addition to his reply, he was nice enough to DM me with more detail:

"I have no idea re the BAR release date. everything got delayed (even though i finished my rmx first, back in august) hopefully, it will be worthy of inclusion on the vinyl/physical release, but i guess that will all depend on how many likes i get or how many people write to mute..."

It's seems bizarre to me that Twitter "likes" and people pestering Mute would determine if and when they release something that's already complete.

Got the 12 inch yesterday, and found the stickers.

I cut a little slit in the side, and stuffed it into that so I won't lose it someday.

Packed away the box, with the rest of the other records. Maybe someday I will open it up to look at it.

The fact that Bernard discussed recovering from COVID-19 in the interview I posted drew focus away from what I think is the most interesting bit: That Be a Rebel is about his youngest son struggling in school due to not fitting in. Bernard also had this issue which explains the "...it's a family affair" lyric. Overall, this has given me a new appreciation for the song, just as much as the remixes having beefed up the sound.

Amazon are knocking out the digital 4 tracks for £1.79 which is a bargain, I think. Enjoying the tracks, still can't quite shake the feeling the original version is going to go into Sink Or Swim by Bad Loo at any minute but the remixes are lovely.

My vinyl still hasn't arrived. Not had any parcels via Royal Mail for over 2 weeks now. 😭

Someone noted on Facebook that Barney's mixes are different on the vinyl and download - something about being slightly longer on the vinyl and not featuring the pretend "Hooky" guitar. Someone suggested Barney tweaked the mixes slightly after they'd gone off to be pressed.

Not checked yet myself, but will do a comparison this evening...

Hmm... I think it did seem like extra guitar on the download of one or both Bernard mixes compared to the vinyl but I just assumed I simply hadn’t been listening closely enough to the vinyl. Will have to compare again.

Yes, on the download version of Bernard's Renegade mix there is a guitar solo from 3.43 to 4.12 that isn't on the vinyl version.On the vinyl version the same melody in that time section is on a synth instead. The download version length is 6.25 whereas the vinyl i timed at a bit longer at around 6.31

On Bernard's Renegade instrumental there is a guitar solo from 3.22 to 4.02 on the download which doesn't appear at all on the vinyl.The download version of that mix is 6.18 whereas on the vinyl it's 6.31 again.

I suspect it's merely a mistake, no different than the variations of In a Lonely Place.

No, it's because Bernard kept tweaking it after the vinyl had been cut. The lead-in times are so long for vinyl and he wasn't done with it.

Thanks, that seemed more likely to me. It's one thing to miss spotting a mix that has a few thunderclaps a bit higher in the mix, and allowing that slip out. It seems another entirely to miss spotting mixes that have additional guitar parts.

If we were back in the Factory days though, I'd totally believe it was a mistake.

Well I ripped the vinyl versions of Bernard’s renegade and renegade instrumental so anyone that didn’t buy the vinyl and hadn’t heard the versions without guitar , PM me with an email address and I can send them using WeTransfer.

The rips aren’t brilliant quality as my ripping software isn’t the best but they’re fairly listenable.

I listened to and compared the two versions of the Bernard's Renegade mix. The structures are the same. IMO, the different timings are due to the speed of the vinyl.

Just replayed the vinyl versions and actually, I think the verse intro just before the vocals start is four bars longer than the digital version - although I haven't double checked the digital mix yet

The extra 4 bars on the vinyl version is at the 4 minute mark where the drums drop out

If anyone has access to a reasonable scanner, and also has the vinyl, any chance of a scan of the Mute sticker? There’s a sample photo a page or so back, which gives an idea of what it’s like. Would just be nice to get an actual scan.

I just bought the FLACs of the ‘digital’ versions and thought it might be nice to have a copy of the sticker scan for the appropriate folder.

PS 10 pages of discussion of one track. Most of it positive too (although negative opinions are good too). That’s pretty decent and proves that we all still love the band.

The five of them need to take heed and start working on some other tracks.

i think it proves:

1. there's nothing else new to talk about
2. the discussion about all the tracks in power corruption lies boxset has come to an end, even though there's a lot more to discuss there
3. the band isn't doing anything else, besides books and interviews, and not many people are talking about that

this just happened to be convenient, because its the first new/old music from them in a long time.
