Parts which werent complete rubbish;

Chems Temptation intro to Star Guitar... how in the world did New Order not work this into their version? They didnt even take the time to pick out an intro piece of music this time... just walked onto the stage and tuned up and told the audience how wonderful they were... standard rocknroll wank... since the Chems already had this in their MPC, why didnt New Order start it up and come out onstage and play along to it? That sort of contemporary update is exactly what NO needs rather than to succumb to rock and roll as they are clearly doing... anyway that little bit was the only good part of the Chems set... that and the New Order sounding slow one with the girl slowly flipping in air on the video... other than that the Chems have a wonderful ability to create and manipulate sound, but no ability to DO ANYTHING with it... for a dance band, most of the house was remarkably still... is it me or is computer music where you can see those four bar chunks cycling by about as unfresh as you can get in 2005???

Good points of the New Order set;

Transmission sounded great... She's Lost Control sounded great (except for the obligatory whoops that sound so ludicrous in these songs... Ian must be cringing)... Steve's playing was wonderful and Hooky's playing was fantastic...

The more recent material was DREADFUL... I was cringing and so was everyone around me during Run Wild and Hey Now... my god next to their better work and the JD stuff in particular those songs sound APPALLING... even Krafty and Sirens were pretty awful except for their verses...

All in all its about what I expected... the old material was decent... Love Vigilantes was pretty good and BLT was wonderful as always (Hook in particular was fantastic during this one)... but the new material was truly horrific and depressing to see played live... so all in all it was an uneven evening which finished on the down side with a paint by numbers Blue Monday and then the house lights came up... no surprises, no hairs standing on the back of your neck (except for one moment near the end of BLT which always gets me)... nothing unexpected and nothing inspiring...

I look forward to seeing how the Gang Of Four sounds in comparison...

That was an awesome show. I got there very early annd arrived at the venue just as NO were doing their sound check. It took forever to open up the venue. The Chemica Brothers did a Pink Floyd show. Their music was okay, but like their fans, it was loud and obnoxious.

Of course, New Order rocked the house despite the muddy sound mix (which I initially blamed on the Chemical Brothers' excessive volume level). I was down in the fray on the arena floor. It was awesome to be able to make eye contact with Bernard and Hooky.

The oldies will be around, fear not. I get the impression that they will be changing the set again these days, rather than sticking to a set pattern. Can't see 'em doing the same set at Coachella.

I agree with what the others have said here, they should have ended with LWTUA instead of BM. Bernard looks tired as all hell at the end anyway.

Overall, I had a blast! Chemical Brothers had a very tight production, almost "too perfect." Except for the parts the destroyed my ears.. :dead:

At the concert last night, did you guys catch what Barney said about BLT right before he played it? I thought he said that it was about Hooky, Gillian, and Stephen. He then added that they "prefer not to talk about it." I assume, since no one here has mentioned this, that it was just my imagination or just common knowledge.

Oh, and when Barney tossed his last pick it hit the guy right in front of me in his throat and he got it. So close. How awesome that must be--to have your own little New Order reliquary....

Yep. Sound was definitely muddy especially the vocal mix, I also blamed it on the set up for the Chems. I thought the Chem's were fine, particularly Block Rocking, Temptation, and the female gymnast music (when that was on the screens), but that music that long, that early, before New Order just makes your ears bleed and gives you general fatigue.

I didnt like She's Lost Control (it was the first sign that the vocal mix was off, so it was ruined for me), liked Transmission, and the general commentary is in agreement with mine, the newer material sounded weaker, although i actually thought Krafty and Road to Ruin sounded great. The other stuff didnt. No Technique material really pissed me off. I didnt need Round and Round, I would've liked something else off the album (and not Fine Time) but honestly i wouldve taken anything, rather than nothing. I thought they might play Dream Attack. Oh well. After talking about older material, it was mostly the same old, the only PCL track being of course Blue Monday.

Barney was fun and funny, the rest were great, Phil was really into it, i got the feeling Barney was actually having fun, maybe he doesn't quite mind touring as much anymore?

exactly Nic! Turn, Primitive Notion and Here to Stay should all get their proper dues from the recent catalogue. would love to see these added to the setlist.

I think they should put blt and true faith too bed for awhile. They should also play more of their lesser know tunes.

I expect their set to be expanded when i see them in nyc. They dont have to put up with the chemical brothers.

I'm not going to lie and say that I was exactly pleased with the setlist or the stupid curfew, but anyone who thinks that wasn't worth the $40 is a mong.

We got there in time to hear them soundchecking Run Wild and True Faith. It was a long time to get in and the event staff couldn't tell me where to find a toilet. The advantage of getting there early was that we were front row and right in front of the amps on which Hooky frequently stood.

I thought the Chems were fantastic--certainly dispelled any worries that they might turn on their computers and sit back. They really got into it, and so did the crowd, although these dickhead goths tried to ruin everyones time by screaming with fake fear everytime these 'scary' clowns appeared on the screens. To be honest, I'd say the Chems were the best overall last night, though they had some notable advantages.

I found my place for the New Order show although some Yank cunt tried to stop me from getting back to my place. The atmosphere changed during the break, with the front getting more squashed and people getting more pushy.

Who thought they'd open with SLC?! Don't think it was even an option in the prediction polls. Went down well, as did Love Vigilantes. Transmission was a treat, while Temptation and Love Will Tear Us Apart were an outstanding double. The worst part of the evening was that the bass, guitars and vocals seemed to segue into each other to make one mass of noise, the sound was abysmal.

But where were the fresh additions to the setlist? Did they mean Run Wild? I didn't expect them to come out with Movement material but I thought they might want to try out some of their older ones in preparation for the summer. True Faith and BLT were boring.

Bernard literally got down on his knees and prayed during the chorus of BLT, before lying on the ground completely. Less whoops and shouts than I was expecting, and in fact Barney said "We're trying to concentrate on playing and not jump around too much, but now we're gonna do some jumping around." He also called Morrissey a poof.

The night ended really depressingly thanks to the curfew which prevented a better encore. My friend was even more pissed off when Hooky gave his pick to the person who had pushed my friend out of his spot! But all in all I am glad to say I have seen New Order. To have Hooky yards away from us was something else.

Hooky patted an event staff on the head, raising a smile from the bloke who for the rest of the evening seemed like he couldn't wait to get home. Also, Bernard kicked the mic stand down during one song, prompting a nervous roadie to dart back on and try to fix it while the song was still playing.

I am still down that they didn't play Ceremony or Atmosphere. Upsetting to think if they had more time they would have played Atmosphere.

Fantastic show, fantastic set. Being smashed up against the barrier in front and dancing to "Temptation" is the culmination of years' worth of dreaming. One thing: I wouldn't have noticed that they're getting old, except they kept reminding us that they're getting too old for this. Well, during "Bizarre Love Triangle" he got down on his knees when the lyrics said so, and it looked for a minute that he might not make it back up. That would have been awkward. Nonetheless, amazing show. I'm still buzzed.

Didn't see too many people I recognized from pictures I've seen up here, though David S was everywhere, I saw him pass by the front of the stage about 15 times taking pictures before disappearing backstage.

If Jeff was in a Celtic shirt, I think he was pretty close to me. 2nd row, just right of centre if I'm right.

And if anyone wants to hear Hooky call Bernard a poof (some thought it was Bernard calling MOrrissey a poof!).....Poof!

I wish. I won't be in England till July, the same month when the lads are seemingly playing every country in Europe but ours. I considered making a jaunt for that French festival but that doesn't seem a goer, and I don't know what the situation is ticket-wise with T in the Park. It looks like I'll have to wait until the next album, but the memories of last night will do nicely.

Anyone got pics yet? DS is going to upload his over the weekend and my mate took one of Hooky on his phone which I'll try and get up here.

I hope everyone who sees them this summer has as much fun as I did. Just don't worry about the setlist and enjoy the songs they do play and you'll have a great time.

One more point of note, being so close to Hooky during WFTSC made me see what a great bassline it is, even though I could barely distinguish the bass from the mix. Good luck tabbing that one! (Although I'm fairly sure the 6 7 and 9 frets on the G string play central parts)

I'm messing around on my bass at the moment and I seem to be coming out with a wierd combination of Krafty and WFTSC.

Is he playing it on the 4 or the 6? It's just the 6/7/9 fret on G pattern that changes....might sound as good on the D at 11/12/14 G 14/13, depends on what you are playing it on and hearing it through.

I'm fairly sure it wasn't as high as 14 or as low as 4 and for some sections of the song (although my memory is hazy) I thought I saw him play on both the G and D strings though I can't figure out how. Incidently I find the bassline of Krafty's instrumental interlude similar to parts of WFTSC, although as I haven't listened to the album since hearing both songs last night through the poor sound system the two songs have been meshed together in my mind!
