Someone once said (I forget who) that you should never regret any decision that you have made - you made the best one that you were capable of at that point in time.
As someone who is constantly looking back and wishing I'd done things in different ways I find this idea quite comforting.
As for the drugs, I've never really understood how/why it gets so out of hand for lots in the music 'business' but I presume it's a combination of availability, boredom, pressure and experimentation. 
and I wish people would stop slagging phil off!
