Hopefully this is all a storm in a teacup anyway, looks like Barney & Steve are calling Hooky's bluff...and if the egos get sorted out hopefully it will be businesses as usual. But how sad is it the band are communicating by media release?
I HAVE TWO NAMES FOR NEW ORDER FOR A TEMPORARY BASSIST:
ALEX KATUNICH
-formerly of ehhh....Incubus.Love that man...that bassist..he is the man! :)

Maybe they can get a producer to do most of the music now, just like Depeche Mode. And be a live Joy Division tribute band with a session guitarist and session bassist, with Steve on drums, and Bernard dancing badly or something. And become a big joke.
Bernard and Steve can still go on and make music, thou to be honest they don't seem terribly inspired at this point. Just don't pretend that they are the same.
I think this is all about keeping their options open rather than let Hooky decide it's over for them.
Time will tell, I'm sure there's no great rush at the moment to do much of anything.

Sorry mate, I think you have mistaken this for a rational discussion forum, and in consequence, gone and posted sense.

Come on Guys.... Sting,Sarah,Jack,Chris,Gillian, Simon Gallup....there is no New Order anymore without Hooky.![]()
I'm sorry. This is NOT good news.I'm not having a NEW ORDER without Hooky,it wouldn't be fookin' NEW ORDER!! Barney & Steve can carry on as something else, but not NEW ORDER,it's a fookin' joke,& I'm gutted this is even being considered,it's an insult to what NEW ORDER were & are.& I'm personally quite surprised my fellow NOOLers would even go for this. It's been mentioned that The Bunnymen still carry on without Pete De Freitas & Les,but with respect,it's hardly the same thing,Hooky is such an integral part of what NEW ORDER were/are,he's more than just 'the bass sound',he's a focal point,a mouthpiece ( the only one sometimes! ),a tour de force. To even imagine them still being NEW ORDER is,to me,an absolute, definate 100% no no.At this stage,I would not even consider buying material under the name of NEW ORDER if Hooky was not part of it.End of.

& the more I listen to that fookin' Indesit advert & contemplate that 'Hey Now...' would be the way forward, keep it.Movement,PC&L & LowLife it fookin' ain't![]()

Each to their own. I think it's the best news I've read on this forum all year. The proverbial two fingers up at Hooky. Can't wait to see what he's gonna come back with now in the next salvo. Fair play to Barney and Steve for sticking up for New Order and saying that Hooky doesn't have carte blanche on what any of them should, or should not do.

David Preece, Luton legend. Passed away on Thursday.
I'm confused now.Hooky was saying over the last few months that he's gutted that there's no more New Order .But now there IS going to be more New Order Hooky doesn't want to be in it![]()
He's pissed if there isn't and pissed if there is
I'll have a cup of coffee and try and wake up a bit

Anyways... the Bunnymen are still class and there is only two of the originals left.
Bit of an unrealistic comparison really as the drummer had no choice in a reunion (he's dead).
I'm not sure it will work even if they get a shit-hot bass player (such as Guy Pratt for example). Its also about chemistry on a stage and they will lose a lot of that. We'll be left with Sumners running on the spot and 'whoo-hoo' in the middle of every song - not sure I'd wanna pay 30 quid to see that.
Equally The Damned are but a very poor shadow of themselves with two original members.

Thought it was- just read about on my local team Torquay's website- only played a few times for us, though. Very sad- puts this petty squabbling into perspective, doesn't it? Said it before- LIFES TOO SHORT FOR ALL THIS

Well -I initially thought it was a classic member of the mid 80's Deuschland team, whom i had a pair of adidas footy boots endorsed by. Alas - my knowledge of L.T is somewhat limited.
Im sure that a lot of us on her would venture ou to see Barney, Steve n Phil 'do' some sort of show (i would). Its nice to see them finally oficially post a positive statement re-affirming that the band does now have a 'forever' changing line-up and one bloke is not the main player![]()

He was a popular player at Walsall where he started. 44, no age, RIP.
The best and worst of news... Or something... At least it's livened things up around here a bit...

I know, had a look at one of their messageboards this morning and the outpouring of grief was amazing considering he only had 2-3(?) seasons tops there as a youngster. Guess you never forget your own?
Bet you don't remember who he scored against on his Luton debut though, Mark?!

hopefully this is the remains (sic?) of new order buying time. someone needs to stick a couple of e's in hooky's beer to get all loved up and emotional. phone barney, get it sorted and then play 6 low key venues with some new angry material. bedale chantry hall venue no.6 (capacity 300?)
Mr. Disco wrote: They´ve made Hooky´s motion-capture during the WFTSC sessions, so the idea for the next tour would be put Barney, Steven and Phil playing live against a blue screen, then project the CGI Hook and create new basslines digitally.
...So the new album could have Peter Jackson as producer perhaps?
Nah! It'll be Stephen Hague again, he always hated Hooky's basslines! ![]()

Nice Le Coq Sportif kit we had in those days.
Hope that the other three release something with or without Hook. Most of us will buy it, hate it, say terrible things about it and listen several times a week. (Just like the other releases)
Can't say I'm thrilled about this. Will give any Hooky-free NO a fair listen though.
As for filling the bass slot: that guy out of the Cure sounds just like him...
Honestly, what would be the fookin' point? Why carry on as NEW ORDER,& I'm trying to ask a pertinant question, but what would be the relevance now? It's one thing to record/release/tour with what amounts to the original line-up,being labelled as legendary & respected to the hilt, with diminishing returns both in sales & plaudits, but to carry on under said respected/legendary/mythical name, just amounts to tainting all that has gone before.Ok,I wouldn't want to shoot down in flames any propective release by Barney & Steve by saying Hooky was the creative force, because he was one of 3/4,but it wouldn't be NEW ORDER however you look at it.Maybe I'm just a purist, but also maybe,one/quite a lot of people on here are also getting letting their hearts rule their heads. It's ok to love & cherish what we have & have had,but another to let all that get sullied.& I mean this with utmost respect to Barney,Steve & Phil too.I'm up for the point of the statement being to keep their options open,as Hooky does not obviously speak for the band, fair enough, but I'd rather them call it a day right now than to see that name become a fookin' parody of what the legendary status that they now hold. ![]()
& now,I'll shut the fook up![]()
Steve and Barney should change the name and get a new bassist. My choice? The ubercool Kim Deal.
Didn't we have all these same comments when Gillian left the band?!

Yeah, would agree Hooky's integral to the New Order sound. Might actually even be the New Order sound.
But he's hardly acted kindly throughout all of this. And it's not like we're reading his thoughts second hand either, they're taken straight from his blog.
I think it's +ve that Barney and Steve want to carry on as New Order. Hooky has left the band, little more. One man alone can't really split the band up. Hooky won't be happy with it, but then we've all been there before. How many of us have dumped a bird we really don't want to be with, but then have a hissy fit when we see her carrying on with her life, happy as larry with someone else?! C'est la vie, etc.
BRILLIANT! I hope in time Hooky rejoins after he realises the pointlessness of Freebass though (IMHO mind you!) =]

Yes, but they can't put bass notation on his autocue, or can they?
Do they put guitar notation on his autocue?
