Depeche Mode losing Alan Wilder,RHCP losing Slovak,etc.,etc.,is nowhere near the same fookin' thing.They both had not been going 30 years,had both not achieved legendary/influential/whatever -you-want status,had both not been a part of TWO fookin' great bands,& the said members weren't exactly Hooky in terms of what 'their sound' was,ie.,they were replaceable & have been.Sure you can argue that in ten years time Hooky could've turned out to be that,but after 27 years of being N.O. & having such a massive part in that,you want them to be in their '60's & be a creaking parody before they achieve it??!! I know opinions & all that,it's just that I'm starting to question the credibility of some so-called fans,if that's what they really want to see.I agree with Barney & steve's statement that Hooky doesn't speak for the band by saying it's all over,but in terms of what N.O. are,where does it really leave them? Don't be misguided by just wanting product because you want to cling to something because you love it so much.Sometimes,because of that,it's better to let it go :\ohwell:

I have a concrete question:

If Bernard and Steve decide to carry on using the name "New Order", what will happen? Hooky already said that he wouldn't like them to use the name. Does any of them "own" the "new Order" trademark??? Does that mean that we could have a court battle, like Pink Floyd in the 80's??? Man, that would really suck.....

If this is the end, so be it. Nevertheless, I'd like to get a new product, and the most convenient way to get it is through their side-projects. I know it's not the same but it's something that they'll be comfortable enough to work within. At least if it'll be that bad, it won't marr New Order overall legacy.

I just have an impression that Barney doesn't feel like making music anymore at all.

Totally agree. At last Re:Order gig i had to question why us NOOLers are helping fund his DJ escapade, rather than boycotting him and helping push him back into doing his real job. Lets face it, he's not very good at spinning the discs.

And they all went to Cannes.... so what? Has Barney quit the group? No. Therefore the problem lies with Hook. Hook is making a nice tidy sum spinning discs - not very well by all accounts (I don't know, I wouldn't dream of going to see a DJ set by any of New Order - I've better music at home!) and all this 'I love to see my fans stuff doesn't wash', 'I love to see my fans pay to see me otherwise I'd do it for nowt' should be nearer the mark.

Other Two things - 1) fuck Depeche Mode - there's nowt to bring to the arguement there, ooooh Alan Wilder we respect his distinctive whatever it is he does on his little metal box don't we 2) Making up silly names based on Electronic or Other Two is stupid. Stop it at once. 3) Never write blogs after you come back from the pub 4) Hook has stated he has no problems with either Barney or Steve. That's four things but Other Four didn't look so good.

That's true. If you ask me, Depeche Mode has not done anything good since Alan Wilder departure. He's still not of Hooky's importance though. To me, Hooky is so much more than just a band member. There are bands out there that only one or two members play a big part and the rest play minor parts. William and Jim Reid are The Jesus and Mary Chain, Robert Smith is The Cure, Morrissey and Johnny Marr are The Smiths, Liam and Noel Gallagher are Oasis. I see New Order as one of the most complete and balanced bands out there with everyone putting a share into the group, they're a true team. When people mention New Order , they think of Bernard Sumner, Peter Hook and Stephen Morris. Gillian Gilbert also played a big part of New Order, but the core of the group has always been Barney, Stephen and Hooky. Worse, all three go back to another legendary band that survived a huge lost. Really, he's not just an ordinary band member.

The only reason I think this is good news is that the whole group did not agree to disband. It's a matter of one discontent member. It's also good that Bernard and Stephen did not reveal any plans about the band's future without Peter. They at least have that much respect... for now. After much thought, I think that if Barney and Stephen continues as a group, they have to find another name for themselves. They have to find another Nazi related name to continue the tradition :). Like previously mentioned, I rather see a pairing of Barney and Stephen than another side projects where they go their separate ways. Oh you don't know how much I wish that Freebass fails miserably.

jack, that's right we don't know anything. we just know that Hooky is continuing to talk to the press about a split when in fact he doesn't want to be a part of New Order anymore. so in my opinion it's just fair that Steve and Bernard made that statement with a hint they won't make any further comment. it also leaves doors open for Hooky to come back.

it's of course just my point of view, but Hooky really should think abut whether compiling crap Hacienda CDs, being a novelty celebrity DJ and recording with Freebass (heard only one demo, so it's too early to judge them) is his way for the future. as you can see on this forum, all the fans love your dad for what he is, his playing of course, how great he can be when you accidently see him (as I know for myself), but he recently made some bad decisions that leave some bad taste.
