new order still together

To me, this is good news. How I see it is that the three of them (or the four of them) didn't all agree to disband. It's just one pig-headed band member who is dissatisfied with something making a hiss about it. It's like "if you don't want to do this, then I'm living" and the rest of the band still haven't call him back so the situation is how it is now. If Sumner and Morris still want to continue, then there's still a chance that they'll convince Hook to come back. That's much better than if all of them decided to split, that's 3 to convince to go back together.

You know, I did note the Angels were gonna have a field day, but I never really spoke up on this myself. Chuffed to podge.

For one, good news, good news, and good news. So Hooky's left the band. News flash: Big fookin' deal! While it's a bit of a bummer that the Bassman's jumped ship [and behind his bandmates' backs even, mind you!!], I still have some hope that it'll probably be all for the best. Barney and Steve'll probably never play live again, but I still think that if they crank up some synths and guitars and can still pull off a killer Blue Monday then, fookin' hell!! Go for it, boys! :thumb:

Yeah, sorta bummed that Hooky's jumped ship. To which I respond with the following.

Oh well. VIVA LA ORDER!!

well, no one could ever replace Hook but good news nonetheless. They'll get it sorted out..

Right , watch this and then imagine Barney , Steve and Phil doing it WITHOUT Hooky.Yeah right. Not that they ever do Sunrise anymore but you get what i'm saying ??!!

Beatrice Hatherley provided guest vocals on WFTSC, and she currently plays bass with Zoot Woman, who Sturat Price used to be involved with.

I used to work with her a few years back - she's a very nice girl, and still owes me £10!!

True, but I think Bernard, if his reputation as song architect is based on truth, often let Hooky do the riffing since guitar and vocals simultaneously were a bit difficult. In other words, the music and aesthetic evolved partly to suit needs; whatever Hooky claims, he rarely played super high on the bass during JD's days, he sounded a lot more like Wobble than the Hooky of today. The music will continue to evolve to suit needs, as Get Ready and WFTSC demonstrated the need/desire to return the prominence of (some) distorted, punky guitar.

She's wild yet can't see much chance of it. Never have the NO alchemy w/ out Peter Hook Bass. Will the parties concerned simply Kiss an make- up. Re- Record Brotherhood- 'Way of Life. That WFTSC as an ablum and Krafty at its slickest gets slagged at all, think, is more than slightly insane. Official site Catching the headline front page BBC.co.uk last night. It's gone all fashionable Times or The Guardian Online..

Without Hooky's bass, New Order will sound like a 3rd-rate band (i.e. shit) - bit like Depeche Mode! :p

The more I think about this, the more I think it's maybe just Barney & Steve saving face and trying not to spoil their future.

It's like, when they last took a long break, 93-98, they never once said they'd "split" but it was generally assumed so. I don't think Barney & Steve like the idea that Hooky has said that "split" word. Because that then means when and if they do get back together it looks like a money-making reunion.

It's also a bit strange that this all comes about 2 months after Hooky has said his piece AND also handly coincides with him away in America doing his DJ sets!! Maybe they're a bit scared of being paid a visit...? :dead:

Two things come to mind regarding that.....

Firstly, a lot of Hooky's "lower" JD lines are still "up the neck" just on the A and E, he is right about that making things louder, the same energy being confined to a shorted string increases amplitiude. Secondly, when Barney adhered to the "guitar, THEN vocals, THEN guitar" system, NO rocked and Barney could keep it together. Now he's started "comping" (look it up) like a fucking tube station busker and it wrecks his singing AND his playing....twat! Lord save us all from singers with a squidlynoisemaker round their necks.

I've noticed we've exchanged bits now and then analyzing the musicianship, which I enjoy even if we disagree now and then. I'm well aware Hooky was frequently midrange during JD, but there was nothing close to Chosen Time, EGG, the high part on Temptation, PK, etc, sans the verse to SLC (Well, guess the six string made it's debut on H&S, but you get my point).

As far as Bernard goes, here's what I think you mean by comping: He's playing along on occasion to a backing track of his guitar, even with Phil there. Haven't heard it, but I can believe it, as Regret always had a doubled guitar even back in '93 (at least on the live stuff I've heard). If you're referring to studio work, all of them are comping, most of all Hooky, unless Bernard can't even focus vocally when it comes to studio time.

I'm not keen on NO without Hooky. In my opinion, bad play, but Hooky's got a half dozen against him; myspace is a corny was to spread "announcements", fan contact or no contact. I hope this matter gets resolved without getting really stupid, as it's already pretty lame right now.

New Order without Hooky? or no New Order at all?

There's got be only one answer really, to quote Mr Hook himself from his own blog '...life goes on'.

So it won't be the same, so what, the past does not equal the future,

If Steve and Barney did record together, I for one would actually be quite curious as to what they could come up with. I'd rather have New Order without Hooky than any of their side projects.

New order without Hooky IS a side project...

maybe they should change their name to Electronic Two

Surely New Order without Hooky is New Order without Hooky, has New Order been a side project since Gillian left?

The point I am trying to make is if Hooky has left, so what?

We're either left with a New Order without Hooky, or No New Order at all.

If Steve and Barney do something together we can judge it then, if they don't we haven't lost anything.

Yeah...another album like Republic...

I can't fucking wait...

Fine, don't buy it,

I doubt very much if they would ever record anything without Hooky, and I don't disagree that it would not be the same. Hooky is a very important part of New Order's sound.

What I don't understand is why people are getting so upset by Barney and Steve's statement.

We still have all the albums and memories from 1980 to 2006, you can't take that away, if New Order still exists without Hooky, why does that bother people so much? as I said before the alternative is New Order not existing at all, does it make much difference? probably not... life goes on

I dont think that they will replace Peter with anyone, they'll simply rely solely on synth bass. Isn't that for the most part what Berney did in Electronic?

Well, without Hooky, that's pretty much what New order become...Electronic...with an upgrade on the drums!!!

Right, so New Order minus Hooky is no longer New Order, but Electronic minus Johnny Marr is still Electronic? Don't think so.

They said the same thing when Alan Wilder left Depeche Mode and they've released some quality stuff since then. The Red Hot Chili Peppers lost Slovak they looked finished, especially hiring some then teenage crazy person named John Frusciante. Some bands can survive losing key members, some can't. Let's give them a chance.

Why not???

Hooky will definitely go nuts (as he is right now!) when the remaining two plus Phil continued to use the name New Order. As he (Hooky) stated before, 'they can continue, but not with the name New Order for we had a pact when one of the original member leaves for any reason, they must drop the name, blah blah blah.' I personally want the remaining members to continue using the name New Order, but then, it might just widen the rift with the bass master. So to avoid a bigger conflict, yes, so change the name. I don't mind the remaining members doing a "side-project" using a different name. But please, not the name Electronic Two.:evil4:

Indeed!

That's pretty much my thoughts on this too mate. Yes Hooky is an integral part of what I and a lot us love about NO and Republic and the '93-'98 hiatus which followed was perhaps not their finest hour but it's a bit premature to judge how good or bad future material and direction of NO may be under Bernard and Steve and with or without Hooky until it happens, if it ever does? Could be good, could be s***e but wait and see and give it a chance! Cheers!:thumb:

To save quoting our exchange above...

"comping" is best defined as randomly keeping time by battering the current chord....busker style, and Barney has adopted it, and it makes him look a pleb, bob in and out from the mic, and generally look unhappy and sound cack.

Oh ok, haven't heard that term in the states. Two questions: 1) What was the impetus for this? And 2), Didn't he start to do this back in the mid-80s? For instance, YSF on record has that delicate guitar interplay during the bridge where Hooky plays the melodic lead, but live I've only heard Bernard vamp on C, even going back to Reading '89 or before.
