Aren't they clever, they've dropped the Blue Monday drums through a sheet metal shredder and mixed them right up over the vocals. Decent effect but hardly anything new or groundbreaking - see Depeche, Aphex, Radiohead, NIN, etc.

Lazy analogy, anyhow.

Other than radically different styles, contexts and influences, Portishead released their first album around 16 years after NO/JD and this is now their third. Hardly a fair comparison in timeframes for the bands. Let's see what ground they're breaking in 2024. Perhaps you'll be trolling the Portishead forums by then, lamenting the passing of the good old days.

You continue to fail to grasp a rather simple concept: not all fans here are looking for the likes of 'mind-bending' industrial trip-hop from NO. Some just want a groove or some throwaway Bernard couplets. To deride them for enjoying different styles simply makes you look like an elitist bore.

Must be nearly 20 years now since NO have dropped a record that's gone close to meeting your expectations. Wonder what your motive is to keep returning here?

I was curious and went on YouTube to check out "Machine Gun" and I'm sorry to say this, but it's horrible music. I rather listen to "Jetstream" which is the New Order song I dislike the most.

At this point in time, I don't expect New Order to be innovative anymore. If they ever do another album or song, I just hope that it's good. I hardly hear any good song from other young artists, I'm not going to ask middle-aged men to reinvent music.

I just listened to the sample clip of 'Miracle Cure' on Blank and Jones' Myspace page, and I actually liked it! As for the remix, it probably has less of Barney's vocals than the original, but it made me want to listen to the original version. (However, I've heard remixes of songs that feature even less of the original song's vocals than this one, so the remix I heard wasn't too bad.)

(It reminded me slightly of GIAUE, though.)

I can't wait until this is officially available.

It's not too bad, I like the vocal, despite my recent ant barney comments, I do still love that voice. I can't help thinking somethings missing though, so here's my attempt at what it might be like had hooky been involved too!

the single version of the Blank & Jones sounds pretty good, aside from the typically bad Barney lyrics. the remix that's floating around is fine for immediately forgettable eurotrash that plays well in Hamburg.

oh, and that new Portishead single is pretentious crap. I've heard far better music in "Tetsuo: the Iron Man."

I bought the 3 track download, of the three mixes the Martin Roth mix is best imho, although it's the "Dub" and not the mix with Bernards vocals which is better,.

I think this will be the first NO related release i wont bother with. Its an ok tune IMO but nothing more. i wouldnt dig it out and listen to it over and over

I used to prefer Barneys lyrics when i didnt know what they were about, he now has a tendancy to write lyrics that (like somebody else said above) sound like a 4 year old's. They seem to spell everything out, step by step, in a quite mundane way.

I found its better to just listen to Barney and not try to figure what he's trying to say... he's more enjoyable that way.
