Theres too much focus on the "cash-in" aspects, in my opinion. Its used as a stick to beat whoever. We would all love another New Order tour, perhaps a farewell one. From a certain point of view that could also be described as "cashing-in" but we'd be happy for that to happen.

If a concert was announced that was just Gilbert/Hook/Morris/Sumner I will be more than happy to help them cash in. Anything other than that I just couldn't care less.

The original songwriters performing material they all wrote as a band aint cashing in, its just what bands are meant to do!

One assumes that's the Royal "we" you're using there, Gene? Personally, I'm not sure many on here really thought Mr Hook was 'cashing in' with the I-Used-To-Be-In-Joy-Division tour, at least not any more than New Order had been 'cashing in' since '98.
I did, however, think the whole concept was a pile of stinking fucking wank.

Oh go fuck yourself, it was other posts that mentioned 'Fare Well' tours and in actual fact I questioned why so many expected The Next Tour to be one saying "See ya".

Sadbass.................Whilst not great the 100 club gave a great opportunity to see the man play bass, should have realalised something was up when mani flicked our man the v sign, those 19 seconds of film i have of the gig, makes me smile, no filming, no wonder.
as for the joy division stuff , why not he helped write the songs so why not play em,, make money,, he lost loads so Quid pro quo.

One thing that comes through here, and in many (and Mani) a rant is the "living off Curtis" angle.
This annoys the pish out of me, it smacks of the accuser being into the whole "Cult of the Curtis Corpse" that I thought was only for 13 year old goths (or fuckin emus). Joy Division without any of it's members would have been MUCH less mighty. I could listen to a JD instrumental quite happily, possibly even slightly happier that a track with drums or bass or guitar removed. Not to mention the fact that there is 4 times as much material recorded as New Order than as JD, some of which, in case the accusers hadn't noticed, was actually quite good.
I'm usually pretty good at spotting corpse feeders as it's a pet hate of mine, but I don't see very much of it here.
I have to say as well, that The Light's treatment of JD songs piss on NO's latter day attempts, ever since Barney started fucking busking like a spastic all the way through tunes[1], and ever since Shadowplay developed a fucking GROOVE!!!!
For crying out loud, Leadfoot plays it more true to type than STEVE! (I appreciate this is a stoningworthy statement but I stand by it).
I do worry about over use of "the brand" (yuk), but I think people are way too hard on ANY ex member who tries to "cash in".....those tunes are their feckin pension you know!!!
[1] A massive pet hate, makes me angry just writing about it...it's one of the biggest differences between Ye Olde Newe Orderre and the later incarnations....watch PFD...sings a bit....plays a bit, sometime does both, makes fearfully excellent guitar noises often. Now watch Glasgow 06....bouncing up and down strumming like a tube station tune tart, stick his finger in his ear, shove an arran cardigan on him and it'd be "How does it feel hay nonny nonny". I seem to be utterly alone in noticing, never mind not liking this. Best of it is that the daft chimp hasn't enough air in his lungs to bounce like tigger and sing at the same time, hence him sounding asthmatic half the time. Rant over, and yes I do still think barney is a genius.

Do we know how many people bought the freebass album on mp3 download from the Hac site. I was one but i would be amazed if it topped 100 and mainly on here.
The fact is we are all 'diehards' and will be always curious about anything related to joy division and new order and whilst that loyal market exists we will continue to give up cash and time to devote to our obsession.

Not sure what you mean here, what has a New Order thing got to do with it? At the end of the day they are musicians with a tremendous back catalogue. Why not have one last hurah for all the fans who have supported them over the years and a chance for both us and them to say - thanks for a brilliant 30 years of brilliant music?
It would be great for them financialy and great for us to know this is the last time we are going to see this?

While I have no doubt that that Bernard Sumner and Steven Morris (along with Phil) planned to continue as New Order after Hooky quit (which they had a right to, Hooky voluntarily left the group) I'm gonna have to call bullshit on your claim that New Order were planning to do a 2007 tour of only JD songs.
First off, Bernard Sumner has, for his entire career, always been more interested in moving forward and making new music, as opposed to basking in nostalgia. Sure, he'll do a few JD songs in a NO or BL set, but there is no way Bernard would to an entire tour of only JD songs. Bernard was New Order's main songwriter, as an artist, do you honestly he would prefer to play a whole set of JD songs other than his own work?
Known fact. In the fall of 2006, Bernard Sumner wanted to go back into the studio and finish a new New Order record. Peter Hook wanted to the tour of the UK and South America. Hooky won, they did the tour, and then Hooky quit.
In mid 2007, Bernard Sumner announced that he and Steve Morris would continue making music as Bad Lieutenant, and that Alex James, Phil, and Jake Evans would be involved.
A year later, Bad Lieutenant release a 14 track record that actually garners good reviews, and do a surprising amount of touring, playing 7 brand New Bad Lieutenant songs sprinkled with New Order, Electronic, and a few JD tracks.
So, out of New Order, Steven Morris still works with Sumner, Phil C still works with Sumner, Gillian Gilbert has been at a bunch of BL gigs.
Hooky quits NO, ditches Freebass to tour UP with people who had nothing to do with JD, and alienates his other FB bandmates in the process.
Actions speak louder than words.
While he will play older tracks in concerts, Bernard is clearly, clearly more interested in making new music, and still works with the other members of New Order.
Hooky ditches new music from Freebass to play JD songs with sessions musicians, alienated Morris and Sumner, and alienated Freebass.
Somehow though, Bernard Sumner is the villain in all of this...and of course, Bad Lieutenant sucks (I love BL myself). And Hooky had NOTHING to do with New Order falling apart...even though 3/4ths of New Order still tour and record together.
Hmmmm.
That being said, I'll always have a lot of respect and love for old Hooky. The whole affair is sad.

Why, they did exclusively JD set in January 2006. Actually by what I saw it was terrific and the band was enjoying it... so there.
Well, we all know that Mani will go back to Primal Scream (and I personally like them) but what's next for Hooky?
