I've been strapped to a rumbleplank for 25 years (and am still shit), so champions of the art are some of my greatest heroes. Anyone can drag a family from a burning building.....but there's not so many who can stand in front of 10000 and drone a D string with conviction (I'm kidding, in case that needs pointing out)

Look, at the end of the day no matter what has actually happened between the 2 of them, which will remain private no matter how much people like to think they know about it and want to carry on speculating, Mani was wrong to do what he did and he has since apologised profusely and regrets it a great deal. So we move on... Freebass may not but more importantly the friendship between them will and that's all that matters.

With respect mate my full point was "Now if Freebass had been more of a priority over the last 5 years and not the DJ'ing, spoken word tours, books, nostalgia tours etc we might have had a more viable and successful solo project to enjoy".

It is my opinion Freebass has not been a priority but I understand fully why you have come on here defending your ald fella.

I suspect Mani realised that his FAC251 gig would have gone if he didn't suck it up and apologise.

I was backing up all the clutter in my FTP account the other day and found Hooky's (and his auntie's) appearance on Salford City Radio back in 2005.

Obviously I don't know Peter Hook whatsoever, but I've always had a sense that if nothing else the man is authentic. Nostalgic, yes, but the nostalgia's never struck me as false.

The radio show's still there for anyone who's interested (14.6MB). A sonic souvenir of happier times, I suppose?

For what it's worth, being a Man of A Certain Age I love New Order, Joy Division, the Stone Roses and (most of) Primal Scream's output. Being a Man of A Certain Age also means I accepted many, many, many moons ago that a lot of these people are fundamentally gormless cunts.

Something worth bearing in mind with this whole 'raping of Curtis' corpse' chat is this.....When Hooky left New Order the band originally planned to carry on without him. They auditioned a few folk for the job of Hooky's replacement (a daunting task) one of whom is an established musician and good friend of one of my good friends.

The plan, from what I'm told, was for New Order to tour a set made up exclusively of Joy Division songs around the festival circuit in 2007. It was clearly an attempt at 'cashing in' on the hype surrounding Control. For reasons unknown, possibly to do with Hooky's legal threats, the plans were abandoned. A few people on here already know this story, I told them it at the time, and, like Johnny Giles, I know that the sources of this story (there were two) are solid.

Just worth considering this before making out that the idea of 'cashing in' is one exclusive to Hooky.

A cash-in without Hooky would have been as much as a bad idea as a cash-in without Barney/Steve.

Two wrongs wont make a right.

Only the three of em could do gigs like that and keep face (and actually do the songs some justice).

In fact even if they fucked it up it would still have some credibility and gravitas (and would probably make a fortune).
