New Track 'Hellbent' On Forthcoming Compilation

I for one would like a box set of true rarities/unreleased tracks/unreleased versions of tracks. The fifth disc of "Retro" that was put together for the fans is a good example of this.

I think most of the fans would be appreciative of releases that showed some thought, research, and effort. I understand that from a sales point of view the record label wants another "best of" every five years or whenever there's renewed interest in the band, but if we could get some fan-oriented releases in-between those "best ofs" that would be great!

When Peter and Stephen went back and corrected the two CD Factory remasters I thought that was fantastic and bought the entire lot of them for about $130 in one pop. I think there's a lot of fans out there willing to spend some serious cash if they felt that either the band or somebody close to the band was really going to mine the NO archive and release the results properly mastered. Just my two cents.

We have to pay for a whole album to get one new track left over from an album session.

Unfortunately, I agree with the sceptics here. This loos just like the 2006 Depeche Mode best-of, with tracks everyone has got, except one.

I believe I read somewhere that New Order had about seven spare songs that they saved from the Waiting For The Sirens' Call album. Am I right?

What I'd like to hear is another remix project, only this time on CD and with a little more imagination taken into account by the producers/remixers.

To a degree, yes.

The songs are, according to Steve in a recent interview "in various states of assembly." That is, not finished or ready for release without more work. Which won't happen while relations with Hooky are 'not good.'

I wouldn't be too sure concerning this. Most likely this is a song which was mostly finished in 2005 and Bernard or Steve put the finishing touches to it with the permission of the other two, a little bit like "Let's go" in 1994. I can't see them sitting together in a studio and actually working on tracks again. Hopefully the rest of the WFTSC left-overs could also be completed this way.

The Sirens stuff, surely! I agree with everything Mr 328 says, especially the bit about Morley jacking off. He's been sustaining it for 30 years, makes Berlusconi look impotent. If there are 7 Sirens out-takes and this is indeed one of 'em, does that mean they're gonna come out on a pointles rerererererererehash apiece? Wouldn't surprise me in the least. Plus it's weird when a 'best of' compilation includes one exclusive track, I wonder why...

BUT (looking at it in a "glass half FULL" kinda way)..... it's a new N.O. track!!!!! The first "new" track we'll have heard in years.... I don't even care if it's rubbish - I can't wait to hear it..... it could be another 5 or 6 years before we get another one.

Am I the only one excited about hearing it?

Plus, hopefully we'll be able to buy the track as a standalone on itunes, rather than have to buy the whole album (fingers crossed).

With a title like "Hellbent", odds are it's a Control OST outtake that lacked the toe-tapping qualities of the other three tracks.

It's actually an unreleased Happy Mondays collaboration from back in 1988 (similar to A Certain Ratio's Good Together which as everyone knows featured Barney and Shaun Ryder on guest vocals).

Absolutely not!!! Remix albums are a cop-out, especially when there's things that haven't been issued on CD and unreleased things in the vault. I can't be bothered by some unknown DJ's "take" on a New Order song, espcially these days when remixes usually have nothing to do with the original track.

I think this compilation is not meant for the die hard fans. It's 'just' for newcomers to be introduced to the music. However; for these newcomers it's missing key tracks like Confusion, 1963 and Round & Round. But this will, ofcourse, always be debated.

Substance? Best of New Order? Rest of New Order? Singles? International?

A perusal of the PRS database against both Hook and Sumner as writers brings up no matches, unless it is titled something else.

For anyone interested in what *is* on the database....songs registered that I've never heard of.
