New Track 'Hellbent' On Forthcoming Compilation

I might actually buy it! It will be my first CD in a year. I just love the cover and I want to re-live 1995 all over again this summer, ha!

But I agree Isolation is out of place here and I'll be pissed if SLC will be the UP version and not the 12".

The song Sister & Brother isn't that a song from the WFTSC leftovers, so did you get to hear it already, where did you hear it and how can I hear that song also, any release date for that song, by the way Hellbent is a great catchy song.

Sister and Brother was played live by the Light 2-5-10. I think Hook did play a Sirens outtake when DJing, but I can't remember the name - something like When You're Away.

Yup, you remembered correctly - I wasn't (unfortunately) there at the time, but it was probably Dirty South (in Lewisham) and one other place.

They do in fact seem to be different versions of at least some of the tracks. Anyone noticed?

The mixing seems to be more subtle and less full-on with the older tracks. Perhaps Rhino have listened....

Good track listing, but can't say I really enjoy Hellbent. Previewed it on Facebook when it made it's debut and what started off as a really good track had me shaking my head once Barney started singing "Yeah... yeah... yeah..." in the background. That moment of cheese killed it for me.

Yes, they know about Recycle - at least one of the band members was given all 20 of the singles in lossless format. Their manager intervened with Warners because he wanted us to finish the project so he personally could have a complete set. The've given their silent consent by not having it taken down. That may change at some point, but as the site has been active for 2 years, I doubt it.

i do agree. £20 for an official t-shirt and an brand new album is a lot of money. it should have been like £11 maximum.

I have bought the Total CD, not too bad a price for a t -shit and CD with unheard track. How much would we have padi if this was only a limited release like the recent record day Ceremony / In a lonely place. Warners messed up my order as per usualy although they are sorting it out.

The different versions you are noticing are the original 7" edits some of which previously appeared on 2005's Singles albeit sonically brick-walled on that particular compilation.

Ceremony, Temptation, Thieves Like Us, Bizarre Love Triangle, True Faith and Fine Time are all the original UK 7" versions on Total. Perfect Kiss is the US/Qwest 7" Edit; a first for a New Order CD release (official anyway). On the JD side She's Lost Control appears to be the same 12" mix which featured on Substance 1977-1980. All the other JD tracks are the well worn versions we all know.

Indeed, it has to be said that the overall sound of Total is much, much closer to what Singles and the Factory album reissues should have sounded like in the first place. Hats off to Frank Arkwright and Stephen Morris, they really did sort it out this time. It's just a crying shame it took so many New Order CDs to get to this stage where the mastering is what it should be.

A boring compilation for the hardcore but for new fans it's not a bad introduction really.

And yes, I like Hellbent

I will also add to this and state that the intro for Blue Monday has the beginning kick drums fully intact (as it appears on Substance), plus the panning issue that usually occurs at 2:25 is fixed.

Ceremony and Temptation have zero hiss and also sound much better than what appeared on both Singles and the remasters.

Oh, and Ceremony's stereo channels are correct, not reversed like they were on Singles.

Sounds like an outtake from GetReady, or a Bside from that time that didn't quite make it.

Many echos of Brutal in it as well; maybe it was pre-GetReady even.

Thinking about it, there were some great BSides around the time of GetReady, wonder if there are any hidden gems we've not yet heard?

By the way I thought the leftovers were unfinished and still needed some work so how did they release Hellbent if they were unfinished.

Misconception. They were finished, but after the deadline for the album to be mastered, so there was no time to consider including them.
