And to think that some folk clamour for unreleased stuff and demos.

There's a reason this sort of stuff stays away in vaults never to see the light of day.

I'm not saying it's awful, it's just a bit insipid and one-dimensional. I listened to it once, found it quite easy on the ears, but decided I couldn't be arsed to listen to it all the way through again. I know a lot of New Order output doesn't initially grab you and needs further attention to detail, but this one frankly washed right by me.

Do wish people wouldn't compare this to Brutal though. I thought that was a lovely track.

i do have to say, some people on here are a bit poisonous. its silly to think a band would want to write the same stuff again and again. it's in the style of new order and it's fresh sounding. i'd rather this than nothing. pretty much sums it up.

Sounds more like Brutal to me, especially when they did it live. On the plus side, it's got all the usual hallmarks (wanksome lyrics, crisp bass, crashing guitars, Steve's platter, synth stabs), just a shame there's YET ANOTHER 'watcha doing' and an overall lack of umph. Trundles along quite nicely without actually climaxing.

Hi, havent posted for a long long while. An average track, but I've loved New Order for being everything except average :shrug: . Guess I won't be holding my breath about the remaining WFTSC leftovers.

Not sure where I saw it meantioned but there was more tracks from the Get Ready sessions than saw the light of day. My guess this is one of those while they're keeping the sirens tracks (Sugar Cane etc) for a later release?

Agreed. Brutal is underrated..... sounds better when performed live though (bit punkier, bit more edge - see the Finsbury Park footage).

Agreed, it sounds very much from that era (Sabatage, Player In The League). I wouldnt be surprised if it was indeed from the Get ready sessions.

Am I the only one who thinks that song is good, I know it is not a classic but it is still good, people on this site are very judgmental about everything, everything can’t be gold, look at U2 and Depeche Mode their last albums weren’t the best but they were still decent, I think lately anything that NO does and their side project has been criticized too much here, after reading all of this stuff it makes me think of not liking their music also which is not a good thing at all.

I like Hellbent a lot more than Pictures in my mind, which I had close out halfway through from boredom. I enjoy that Get Ready sound the track has, it would've made a great maxi single at some point, but to each their own!

It seems like alot of contributors also dont like their music, certainly all the albums released since the nineties began. The three London albums are often held up as examples of crap-ness and I've never understood why. Theres nothing wrong with that, its an opinion like any other but, fuck me, thats a long time not liking New Orders music.

I actually loved Get Ready. Absolutely loved it. Found Sirens harder to love but it had two stellar tracks on and a few god ones nevertheless. Also really liked the BL Paris show. Just find compilation's compilation's compilation unnecesarry and this track bland. Will give my opinion what I've heard of The Light on the corresponding thread.

for a date -- it may not be trustworthy, but one of the blogs I read said it was a 2005 outtake from the WFTSC sessions. Doesn't sound it, but that's what one source said.

It's neither good, nor bad, but a thoroughly normal, average late period NO track that would do well as a bside, or a mid-LP track. I have missed the interplay of drums, bass, and synths, its good to hear it again.

Thanks for posting the link, like all first hear new order stuff its familiar immediatly, liked it enough to play twice, got a little air of menace in there, though sounds like a rip from are friends electric.

It's definitely a grower. Listened to it 3/4 times now and beginning to like it a lot. It's a windows down summer track. Is it Vintage NO? Probably not. However it is NO and for that I am chuffed. Here is a summer tune to hum along to that's better than 99% stuff released this year

Unfortunately this track is yet another ostinato chord-phrase song that won't win the band many new fans, or airplay, except alternative radio stations. Pity, because it could have been brilliant if the gang had really pushed themselves to the limit...

Love the track. Bit unsure at first but listened to it about 10 times now. It does sound like a Get Ready era track.

I,ve seen Rhino are doing a special edition of Total for £20! Bit steep for one track we haven't got and a t shirt. But the t shirt does look nice!
